Great episode! I have one question, how can a free agent sign a contract just minutes into free agency without prior negotiations? Wouldn't that be tampering?
idk if Allan's NTC solution would work, because then a 31-team NTC would be stronger than a full NTC, no? Or if a full NTC worked the same way, that's just what a NMC is, because no one could claim you off waivers. I guess the only other thing a NMC would do is prevent you from being stashed in the minors?
and from the "lawyer's/agent's" perspective, how does tampering on behalf of the players come into play?? especially if said team didn't give permission to player/aka agent the right to talk to other teams?
okay, so instead of talking about NTCs vs NMCs, how about discussing NTCs that are more inline with a certain number of teams that player is willing to be traded to. Example, Flames/Columbus' Gaudreau final year of his contract with a 5 team trade list... not 5 team No Trade List? Understandably the agent and in this case Walsh tells people with differing opinions to "F.Off."...
As always, consider the source. Of course he hates the waiver line. Tampering is all clever language and within the rules, but for waiver threat, it’s obviously against cba in spirit. I like Allan but this discussion was only ever going to have 1 flavor and it’s not neutral.
There is no going around. The best way to fix it is to maintain your value as an independent contractor so you are not considered for being moved. The solution Allan has is something a rich team can use to bury depth in the AHL. eg. Corey Perry signs a 1 year SPC, at $1.15M, with a full NTC. But, since he can still be waived by the team, he can be sent down without fear of getting claimed. That is a circumvention of the Cap, which Allan has suggested the Trouba situation was, despite not providing any evidence or reasoning to support such a position. If you play in a league where the greatest player in the history of the game can be traded and you get "blindsided" by this you should get a new agent. It is always a possibility, unless there is a contractual guarantee that it can't happen.
Nice interview Adam.

I hope they get into that the next episode
What a great episode. Learned so much. Allan is a gem.

I always learn so much here!
"There is nothing I won't do to help..." might want to watch 'Training Day" before you make such grand commitments.
