True that but some things you might not be able to test right there, hence why they make engine lights. I do understand to someone that doesn't understand for the most part how it all works but there are things you won't notice and is why they make engine lights to begin with. Then if you clear the codes even if she brought her own code reader it wouldn't show up until the engine light comes back on. Then when it does all the codes might not even come up yet and within days could show up.
The judge doesn't understand that him disabling the codes means that even if she did take it to get checked, some things can't be seen unless a code indicates that there is an issue. If you disables the code and knows that he couldn't be held accountable because he could pretend he didn't do anything wrong.
I've learned from experience to have a vehicle checked out the hard way. I've learned never take an individual at their word that there is nothing wrong with the car. I honestly feel he knew about the problems and cleared the codes so he could unload on some unsuspecting individual. You don't drive a car for 5 months and not know something is wrong with the vehicle. I feel sorry for the buyer because if he didn't offer any type of warranty, she's stuck with it because she bought it as is.

You can't disable those codes and then run a smog check and pretend like all those systems work .the Smog checks actually check the systems. They put the car on rollers and put a snifter in the tailpipe you're not faking it. Her entire argument has no basis
Actually, you can you can actually override it. If you have a small tester yourself you can override it or pay someone to do it. I actually did it once.

A little knowledge would be helpful for the judges. You can clear the codes and they will not show up for a while and no one is able to detect it.
