In retrospect, leaving was a great choice. In AEW, his career has been rejuvenated and he has been free to be creative and find new depths to his character.
That said, now that Vince is no longer the main one running the show, I do hope Jericho considers one final run in the WWE, as there are a lot of new talent I would love to see Jericho work with.

Jericho has a point here. Granted, he and Kevin Owens doesn't scream Wrestlemania headliner, but this wasn't the best card. Undertaker had no business closing the show that year and Roman Reigns wasn't anywhere near being accepted as a top guy. The build (and match) for Orton and Bray wasn't very good & Brock/Goldberg didn't need a title attached to it. To me, the top 2 matches on this card were Jericho/Owens and Triple/Seth, with the main event being a toss up between those two.

It reminds me of when these two were feuding, can't remember who, but it was going well and they wanted to end things in Hell in a Cell. He didn't like the booking one bit and cut what was supposed to be a longer come back short. One that was apparently supposed to last anywhere between Summer Slam and Wrestlemania 31. He saw the writing on the wall and cut bait and the timing couldn't have been more perfect as he was boarding the MCU train just as it was picking up steam.

Brock Lesnar is a guy you have to make serious concessions for or you won't get him. The part time schedule, letting him end the streak, putting a world belt on him as a part timer, pushing him continuously as a part timer, paying him huge amounts of money. Goldberg had his run and bringing these guys back was ALWAYS an insult to the full time guys who busted their tails ALL year long. It's called loyalty and if you don't show it to guys that have shown it to you then you don't deserve it. All you become is a guy that you say to "show me the money" or "I will walk." For enough money you can get anyone to come back, CM Punk for instance. Jericho could perform. Goldberg could not, Lesnar had the presentation and persona. The one thing they can never take away from Jericho like they took the streak away from the Undertaker was getting the spot of being the first undisputed champ when he won both world belts. Lesnar, for a guy they pushed so much as the "Next Big Thing" and putting him over a Hollywood bound Rock (Dwayne Johnson) and he gave that up to fail at trying out for the NFL and then ended up in UFC, he quit folks, no loyalty there, and in Vince McMahon it is always just looking to make money fast in an industry that lacks stars. So you step on and over others and throw Lesnar in there. Oh and he needs Heyman as a mouthpiece too. Be your own man, with your own legacy. When someone cheapens it walk away because it no longer is how far you yourself can go but how far someone will let you go. Rule 1 in wrestling, Vince McMahon is NOT always right. Just only always rich.

  • @ricofoe107

Him and KO got the same treatment that Punk got back in 2013. That was history repeating itself. The Rock and John Cena feud in 2012 that carried over into 2013 didn't need a part 2 and the match didn't need the WWE title but The Rock convinced Vince to let him win it so him and John Cena could fight for it at WrestleMania. They screwed Punk out of his main event at WrestleMania. Same like they did with Jericho and KO. Brock and Goldberg didn't need the belt for they match like Rock and Cena didn't need the belt for theirs. It was about to happen to Cody until the fans hijacked WWE and we all know if they didn't and The Rock would've went on to face Roman at WrestleMania somehow the title would've made its way in the picture too. Everything we seeing with The Rock and Cody now had to happen because majority of the fans didn't wanna see The Rock vs Roman they wanted to see Cody finish his story. So WWE had to go another way because the fans hijacked every WWE show, social media and Triple H and The Rock's twitter and IG comment section

I think Jericho wasn't mistaken about what the placement meant. But, that said the business itself sells way more tickets with two wrestlers who really drive fan's excitement level to a frenzy.
Vince had that with both Lesner and Goldberg. Sorry not sorry to Jericho, but your persona, and fan reception was good, but not that good.
Regarding whether Jericho should have left WWE. That's something that includes a lot more factors than just a simple 'his ego was too big to stay' judgement...
Moving away from a job that risks your long term health, is one very important consideration.
Do you want to be able to move around and take care of things/yourself when you're really old?
Many professionals in sports do, very often have to deal with a lot of health issues in old age.
That's just one example of a consideration beyond just an ego thing, or 'I have went as far as I can in this business' consideration.
So really, who's to judge Jericho on it?
I do think that leaving as he did, and returning in the music entertainment industry wasn't a bad move.
I like the music I have heard from Fozzy.
The name itself has so much potential for presentation, rebranding as needed.
It shows that Jericho has a good head about promoting a brand.
The fact that he said in that interview, it's Vince's business and he can do whatever he wants with it... Shows that he understood the importance of showcasing matches to promote ticket sales...
TBH, I don't think it was about ego, or a lack of understanding how things work over in WWE.
Gaining reception from your target market... Which applies not only to wrestling entertainment, but really all industries... Very often, data collection gets delayed for various reasons... Which is probably why Vince changed it the week before... Because that data was taking forever to come through.
So really, when taking the history into perspective. Jericho knew he had a good act, lots of fans, etc...
But when you realize that, your presence got shoved into the background in favor of a bigger showstopper feature...
It tells you that, you may have reached the zenith you're going to ever get to, at the place you're at.
And what wasn't discussed in the interview that I heard, is that in professional wrestling... How much money you make, depends HEAVILY on how much you sell tickets with your act.
So from a 'how much money can I make' perspective... Being at a zenith that likely won't rise beyond a second string act...
Is a big consideration when deciding to stay or go.
As I said earlier... Who is anyone to judge this?
My OPINION is that I think Jericho went in the right direction with leaving WWE for a different venture.
Jericho has always been a wrestler I liked, not necessarily my favorite.
But he certainly has my respect.
