I still remember watching OGE streams back then and simply not believing how insanely good he played every single game. Dude was literally cracked, he would sometimes spawn camp the enemy multiple games in a row. He was just crazy good... and had a great personality aswell, such a shame he couldnt translate that domination consistently on OWL.

I think GaeBullSsi should've been on this list, instead of Valentine. Personally, Valentine's play his rookie year is somewhere around what I expected from him. I didn't really have crazy high expectations for him, like I did for Pelican, Assassin, Muze, Mag, etc
Mandu, Gwangboong, and Elk come to my mind as well.

I thought Gwangboong was cracked in his one year just poorly utilized. He should've gotten another chance. Mandu was just tragic honestly he sat on the bench for a year and went from prospect to ass right before our eyes

    • @jdelosangeles
      @jdelosangeles Рік тому

@@watson498 I agree. I'm an NYXL fan, and even though Gwangboong didn't do well the first 75% of the season, he really hit his stride strong and showed his strengths and high potential in stage 4. Obviously the reality is that getting second chances in the Overwatch League is never a guarantee, but it's still frustrating to see someone like Gwangboong not get a second chance, while someone like Linkzr or Colourhex get multiple chances.

Choi was out there 1v6ing top 5 teams in many fights and MyKaylee was out there throwing it all away again. I can definitely understand Choi’s frustration, later mykaylee even tried to swap it around and blame Choi for being racist to Chinese players and extremely toxic. Luckily the rest of charge defended Choi.
Players like Fl0w3R played in an era where the competition wouldn’t even make it out of open division nowadays. I don’t think he fell off at all, people just got good at the game, far far better than he ever was.

I'm pretty new to Overwatch League (started watching in Season 3, but only started watching seriously in Season 4), but the first player that came to mind for me is Gwangboong. I think Mandu is a decent shout. He had a fair amount of interest especially for a main support and it was just never realised. I didn’t watch season 2, but iirc the community was really interested in one of saucy/sharp and neither really worked out. Flora was regarded by many as the temporary hitscan until Gwangboong came of age and well, Flora stuck around, not Gwangboong. Gaebullsi also never went anywhere, and I think Yakpung deserved to make the list as he always did well in contenders and then just wasn’t it at the OWL level. Starting to realise a lot of the bust players were in New York at some point….

#1 should have been "all of S1 Seoul Dynasty"
#2 should have been "all of S1 Dallas Fuel"
No but really, some missed hits imo were:
Mandu. Really hyped player coming into NYXL, we were all pumped when he turned 18, but then he was just... passive. He got nothing done except a bit on Mercy.
GaeBullSi. Coming into the league, he was supposed to be one of the best off-tanks in existence, I heard a lot of hype about him, then he barely ever played, and when he did, he had maybe a map or two where I'd say he looked better than Punk.
Ta1yo. Okay okay, he didn't have that many expectations before joining the league, but we Crusty simps were *really* excited at Crusty having a long-term project to work on, it sounded like this was gonna be a diamond-in-the-rough scenario and Ta1yo would turn out to be the season-early Proper, but then he only ever got I think 2 maps and looked *really* bad in one of those.

I actually think Beast was a lot better even in OWL he unfortunately just succumbed to the Toronto Career Killers with there vicious method of:
Pick up some players with strong potential
Have internal issues/instability that translates to the players in game
Point finger at the (often tank) players and start swapping like crazy
Hire 15 different contenders players hoping they magically deadlift the team
The contenders pickups don’t deadlift the team and win games so the team falls apart and become bottom tier.
It’s was a vicious cycle that Toronto only recently stopped doing. Oh! And then they dump all the players…

as far as I know he had carpal tunnel right around the time he retired - sort of as the reason for stepping down. I just think that his age was the big contributer throughout his career: Being like 16/17 or what during the 2017 world cup didn't show any signs of mental strenght for the future; when he turned 18 and started playing in the league his mental condition must've taken a big hit, causing him to underperform and never really get up again...
