OK, I checked with some of our more qualified folks, and if you HAD to place a live oak tree in either the white oak or red oak family, you would put it in the white oak family, so you are correct. BUT, technically a live oak is in its own category and is neither as it is an evergreen. So I definitely learned something. if the leave tips are pointed, it is a red oak. If they are rounded, a white oak.
