Last Mite I saw was at a local airport (long gone) about Winter 1960 or so. The pilot had some kind of self starter on it and my late father and I stood at the fence near the control tower watching him try and get it started. He never did while we were there. Pretty airplane- yellow and black paint job.
Hey Kermit the frog manning the camera! Thanks for the vid, my dad told me stories of how he and friends used to simulate dogfights in Mooney Mites back in the 60s.
My grandpa (whom I never met) flew a Mite a long time ago, I always wondered what he saw when he was flying. Now I know why he liked this type aircraft.
As a Mite owner for over 30 hrs, this question has come up. I was told buy an examiner that if I did my BFR in a Mite that all I would be signed off would be in the Mite. Take off and fly around the airport and demonstrate that I could take off and land safely.
I think tis would make an awesome electric airplane. Small, light, very clean with the gear up. Imagine sleek you could make that nose. It’s not really a xcountry airplane, more of a fun sport fun machine, so if you could have 1.5 hrs it would be practical. I think that is doable with current battery tech. It would be quite expensive, but people are spending $200k on a sonex jet that only has similar duration. It doesn’t have to make sense, it only has to be fun.
Amazing...the number of pilots who don't know the rule of hand-starts, which is NEVER curl the fingertips around the blade edge. If she backfires, bye-bye fingertips. Flat palms against the blade surface...and from the FRONT!
I would like to fly with this sweet aircraft. but this is not possible if you're living in a little country as mine.. unfortunately. how many aircrafts this type still active flying in the usa?

Best gear indicator I've seen! Can't land gear up with that thing in your face!
Awesome video and a great little airplane!
I owned this MooneyMite 30+ years and she has never back fired while hand propping . I prefer to be behind the Meat cleaver while starting the engine,
Three in the green...errr....ummm...
Love the gear indicator....looks like a wheel for an RC plane...a Dubro wheel to be exact!
cool airplane! I work at LVK I'll keep an eye out for you and say Hi!

consult somebody else, because that sounds like utter nonsense.
LOOKS GREAT CRAIG...TOO BAD THERE ISN'T ENOUGH CARGO ROOM FOR ME.
Always thought that the first flight in a Mite may get your juices pumped.
Now that's how it should be,,,, no fancy beepers and buzzers with flashing lights,,, just a little wiggle waggler to tell you your gear is up.
I love flying this plane in fsx
aaahhhh. nice!
Gear indicator. It moves back and forth when the throttle is idled and the gear has not been extended.

Stupid question: How does one get the equivelant of a check ride in a mite?

@bajacraig2 Thanks!
On my Mite, I don't have impulse mags so it doesn't backfire
@getlow1985 where did you get it for fsx?
Is this in the Owen's Valley area??
Can a ^ foot pilot fly one comfortably?
is it true these things have a cieling of Fl170 + ???
I would be not able to fly any other aircraft...
