- The 5 examples of the EMERGENCY BAT-TURN in the TV series Batman. The Batmobile can quickly rotate 180 degrees while driving (parachutes deployed) or standing still. Of course the Parachute Pickup van was added to prevent littering on the roads!
I’m glad the buttons are labeled as ‘buttons’, wouldn’t want to mistake them for something else.
That was a running gag, everything in the batmobile and batcave was labelled, the producer must have got a Dymo label-maker for Christmas....
@@intercommerce yeah right..., but, BUT (!) for example... there is let's say... a Parachute Button and it's labled "Parachute Button", but why? Why do the Producers or the Set Desingner write down "Parachute Button" insetad of "Parachute" only. Or for example: "Radar". It's not just "Radar" but indeed "Radar Button". Yeah I get it, everything is labled. I get that. But I know that this is a Button. Lets take for example "Bat-laser Beam", I know what this is for, obiously it's a Beam, a laser Beam, and not only that it's... oh, who would have gueses, a Button to activate that. I know, I mean, we all know, that this is a Button, but for real clarification, only to get sure, write down "Bat-laser Beam Button" instad of "Bat-laser Beam" only. After all we the audience can mistake it for other Things. (Attention, last sentence was sacarsm).
@@intercommerce that would be a Bat-Dymo label maker.
Wouldn't want to mistake a button for a lever or a switch. That's how my father died...
The start button is anti theft with rockets going off.
That parachute pick-up driver has got to be one of the easiest jobs out there.
It's Barbara Gordon working a summer job.
The reason they did that was because viewers were accusing Batman of being a litterbug
And he's working for a millionaire so you know the pay is good
@@bentonmarcum8924 gotta be on standby 24/7
@@allanbard6048 that would be great he just sit in a van all day until he gets called.
It would be a amazing job all you need is a portable TV camping stove just sit there with your feet up all day until you get called.
Can't we all agree that Adam West's Batman had the best Batmobile?
We, you and I, can certainly agree to it.
I prefer the original Batmobile over to the revised Batmobile any day of the week.
Please think positive daily. ©®

@@SOCORROSILVA-in7px but Batman his name is Bruce Wayne his Parents dies 1981 and Bruce Young
I totally agree with you
I can't speak for anyone else but as far as I'm concerned.............YES!
The best everything. Everyother Batman didn't compare
The campiness which made us love this series. Batman was ready for any situation ranging from Shark repellent to Thermal underwear.
And he also did NOT litter.
Always picks up his parachutes, once he uses them. 😂😂
And don't forget the "Pipe of Fog" Bat-Reverser he used to defeat Lord Fog!
@@goofygrandlouis6296 Just imagine the job posting.......
Would love to see a spin off series about the parachute pick up guy
We're not allowed to have good TV anymore because Google Now runs the world and wants us only using they're stuff
Probably one of jokers henchmen found a side hustle .....
Stupidest thing!
alfred :-)
That stationary turn without using the parachute, though...
That was also featured in one of the later movies.
They were obviously using the rotating magnetic field of a "Bat Magnet."
@@SmartassX1 right. they paid homage to this in Batman Returns when Batman engaged a hydraulic lift to rotate the batmobile against Penguin’s circus fire eater.
@@MC-yy2bx With a little boost from the Bat Mobile's Jet Turbine.
New Mercedes Benz electric G Wagen has an option to do just this! Its known as a “Tank turn”.
I wish they did more with Parachute Pickup driver. He was my favorite character.
Legend has it that *HIS* action figure ALWAYS sold out....
Best bat-turn of all; the one done while the Batmobile was blocked by Chief O'Hara. O'Hara's probably thinking, "Begora! The Ba'mobile can spin onna dime in place! Saints preserve us!"
Chief O'hara's is not too bright to begin with.
How do the chutes help to turn in place??
@@jimroscoviusthe chutes help him stop, then he turns in place.
It's hilarious to see Gordon recognize Robin's voice over the phone but never when he meets him as Dick Grayson.
I had an uncle that used to work for "Batman Parachute Pick Up Service". Man! Did he have some stories!!!
I'd had asked him if the Batman theme actually plays in real life when the caped crusader gets into action mode :0
I like how B deploys the chutes on a paved road and makes the U-turn on a dirt road.
with tires squealing the whole time.
1:02 is the best, "Surrender Batman, we're taking you in" and Batman is just like "NOPE"
I always wondered how the guys in the Parachute Pickup service knew where to return them to.....
Bat-parachute tracking beacon?
Bat P.O box
Probably dropped them off at Gordon's office.
Well using the expanded Bat-verse Batman did have a trusted mechanic that serviced and repaired the Batmobile. Maybe he drove the van or one of his employees did. Batman would arrive via a secret entrance to a hidden workshop at his garage.
I've always wondered if the guys in the Parachute Pickup service knew who Batman and Robin were. Like did Batman employ them as Bruce Wayne or did he somehow manage to employ them without revealing his identity?
1:53 My grandfather worked for Parachute Pickup Service after returning from World War II. He said Bruce Wayne was one of the finest men he had ever worked for.
I just love how straight they played the silliness! The rapid pacing, action and music used to thrill me as a kid while Mum who watched it over my shoulder laughed at how knowingly it parodied itself. Never repeated and never bat-bettered in all these years 🦇
I like how the emergency bat-turn magically changes the street they are driving on.
I love that the old barge that the Batmobile actually was is made out to be so fast that it needs parachutes to slow it.
the Batmobile was a Lincoln Futura
500hp v8 stock
@@davek6461 We have a convertible 1962 Cadillac with a 390 with 325 hp stock - and it is a boat but it can move pretty fast actually - it just is not something you do with it - sort of not very classy - but it can move
in fact as a drunk teen in 1981 I raced some friends home in a 1968 Cadillac and again - I had Mustangs and Barracuda's but that Cadillac was really fast - but you needed good brakes cause that is some 'mass in motion'
Love the ratcheting sound the lever makes!!!😂
Always sitting at that side street waiting for a pickup call.
Yeah, though I do sometimes wonder if the Parachute Pickup service knew Batman was Bruce Wayne and was called out whenever Batman and Robin were called into action. Hope they did, otherwise they could've been sitting out in the streets 24/7 while Bruce Wayne is either hanging out at Wayne Manor or engaged on either businesses lol
@@AndrewChapman I’m sure he’s getting paid by the hour. I’d hope so, anyways.
It might have been Alfred!
As a kid, this stuff was amazing!
I use the bat-turn every time I leave the GCPD building in Arkham Knight.
I used to watch the show on ABC. I'm 66 now, and I still refer to a fast U-turn as a "Bat-Turn."
I used to make 'emergency bat turns' with the shopping cart full of groceries at the supermarket, unannounced of course. Used to piss mom off something fierce. Thanks for the memory.
I'm so glad Batman doesn't leave his parachutes all over town.
1:07 CHIEF O'HARA: Surrender, Batman! We're taking you in *for dumping all these bat-parachutes everywhere and causing a number of complaints from certain viewers!*
1:47 BATMAN: Robin, alert Parachute Pickup *so we don't cause more controversy among our viewers.*
Because littering would be just too much. ;)
I haven't seen or even thought of this show in decades, but seeing this little tidbit made me laugh. Thanks for posting.
This OOZES cheesiness and it is *GLORIOUS.*
Indeed, this Batman was a well matured Stilton.
I love that he's driving so fast IN THE CITY that using parachutes is useful.
Thank you very much, APennyW, for uploading this interesting video of "BATMAN" with Adam West and Burt Ward respectfully so that I can see it again in the near future.

"Batmobile Parachute Pickup Service," because, of course. :)
so, guys in a van just waiting around. i mean, it would have to be a full-time position for at least three people. so many questions....
Millionaire Bruce Wayne could easily afford it
X council workers fully qualified.
As with all of the 'other' picking up after the Dynamic Duo, I'd bet Alfred had a hand or two in the parachute pickup service!
I recall a scene where Alfred donned Batman's outfit and drove the Batmobile in an effort to throw the criminals off the trail of Batman's real trap! Holy double vision Batman!
surrender batman we are taking you in that bat turn was sweet full 360 turn
It certainly looked like at least two or three of the "bat-turns" were the same clip. I mean who's going to notice in the days before endless reruns and VCRs, right? Same for model train explosions on "The Addams Family". There were no more than two different explosions, and maybe only one, used over and over.
yeah, i noticed that, too. fair enough, though, that was probably an expensive shot to do for a t.v. show.
Exactly
I used to do EBT(emergency bat turns) on my bicycle until I blew out the rear tire. That was the end of EBT’s for me.
At 1:56, the Dodge Van had some of the letters removed and it said "DOG". I actually pulled a Bat-Turn once and damned near flipped my 1973 Dodge Dart.
Robin the boy wonder: WHERE AND WHAT!
Mobile phone technology. GPS technology and SatNav. Sustainable (nuclear/atomic) power. The 1966 Batmobile was far more advanced than I thought! 😮
He technically does a 'bat-turn' in batman returns (sorry, batman re-bat-turns)
For a series that was satirical the original 1966 Batmobile is still neat!!
Holly laws of physics, Batman! 😮
Those Christmas plants with the red berries?
Kinda want to vintage picture 'Cheech' Marin in the Batchute van, eating a taco, having to pull a hot U-turn to pick up the Batchute.
Tommy Chong, "Yo, Bat-bendecho, we've got your Batchutes, man."
When you need Bat parachute pickup day or night, rain or shine. Call on the experts.
The first one is the best. It is legitimately exciting and has genuine tension since we see Robin is in trouble.
Except that's not Robin in the Riddler's car. That's a fake Robin that Riddler was using as a decoy to kill Batman in the Batcave.
Funny how the parachute pickup company always knew where to be at the exact time they did a bat turn
And the van was equipped with a siren.
Gotta love the Batmobile!👌🥰👉🦇
It's just so corny...but I loved it as a kid.
I really need one of these devices for my car, instead of holding up traffic with my plodding, three-point turns...
Love the sound of that Batmobile.
Holy bat spin....
I have noticed that parachutes had bat logos on them with strings attached to them and when batman pushed a button to cut them off and batmobile parachute pick up services was called from the batmobile and I think it's was Robin called them to come out pick up them from the ground
They didn't even bother to shoot a different angle when batman pulls the parachute lever. Robin is never there.
The primary audience for this show were kids and most of them didn't notice.
As far as their parents and older siblings are concerned, they probably enjoyed seeing the gaffes and getting the reinforcement that the show WAS silly!
I never noticed that before. Gaffes like that make a goofy show like this even funnier.
Best thing about this serie is we just watch it we dont need reviews for me is the best. Batman ever and batmovil.
Love the batmobile..
I have a beautiful model of The Batmobile, the doors and trunk open & the flasher lights up & the headlights come on.
There was a slight advancement in the Bat-turn from the first to second use of it-from just a fancy-ass u-turn to turning around on a dime. I regularly say “emergency Bat-turn” whenever I have to do a u-ey.
Bigger Batmystery is how did the parachutes come out in downtown LA and the drive off scene was on Paramount movie lot?
Batmobile parachute pickup service. Top notch.
Don't tell me that Batman was driving thru downtown traffic and exceeding the speed limit, which was only about 25 mph. Batman should give himself a speeding ticket.
Remember in that show Batman and Robin were duly deputized agents of the law. They had the same rights as cops. Kinda like they were a special taskforce of 2 people
Don't forget that the Batmobile has that orange rotating emergency vehicle light at the top center.
The Bat-turn appears to defy the laws of physics
Wow I had forgotten the numerous bat turns, guess they had the footage and the bat parachute pickup van so they had to use them!
The parachute pickup mobile was way ahead of its time!!😮😮😂😂😂😂😂
The first bat turn was filmed for the pilot, ROBIN WAS NOT IN HIS SEAT. So every time Batman cranks the lever, Robin is not there.
I wonder how much you get paid to sit around 24/7 waiting to do parachute pickup ='D
Bruce Wayne is a generous employer
Somewhat surprized that batman did not use his indicators.
1:53 - now i really want a van like this!
I ❤️ the Batmobile parachute pick up service
They definitely got the most out of the bat-turn switch in this episode!
Amazing how the same piece of pavement follows the Batmobile around the city.
"Batmobile Parachute Pickup" 😂😂
Sometimes I wonder if enough fans wrote in wondering if anyone picked up the bat parachutes and that's why they started showing the van lol.
Always wondered how that flame throwng device was installed.
Two of the scenes it looked like the Batmobile was on a turntable and made a complete 360...lol
The one with Chief O Hara reminds me of Batman Returns when the hydraulic lift turned the car so it could bbq the fire breather with it's jet engine before going after the rest of Penguin's gang. Lol
Hey @ 2:00 was the Batmobile on Lakeshore Drive!! That car is the sh--!! Batmobile at night!!
I want to Believe that Parachute Pickup is just Alfred in a specially marked van.
It was actually Aunt Harriet. She knew all along!
Should have shown when Batman caught up with Riddler and "Robin". Batman did just what Riddler said he would do; "He'll give us the Batbeam any second now."
If the commissioner can just call them on the phone what’s the point of the bat signal?
No call waiting or voicemail back then...
In case Batman & Robin are away from their phones. As far as I can recall, there were no mobile phones back then. I could be wrong, though.
Those were BAT-TASTIC ! ! !
My computer keyboard is inspired by the labels on the Batmobile's controls. The "A" key doesn't just say "A": it says "A KEY". It gets a little repetitive, though: one key, for example, says both "1 KEY" and "! KEY".
I forgot to mention that the van had California plates. I never knew that Gotham City was in California!
Why do they need to use a parachute just before making a bat turn? Can't they Normally slow it down with breaks and then press the bat turn?
Every second counts in superheroics.
It is so funny to see Bat turns at night and all of a sudden it is day time. Someone can say if underneath the Batmobile is a turntable to make the turn without the parachutes?
😳 I don't remember the pick-up
service 🤔
Getting old 😁
Did Batman or does Gotham City provide the funds for the Parachute Company to operate? Or could there be a grant from the Wayne Foundation?
I’d say Wayne Foundation with some subsidies from Gotham City.
If anyone has not seen it here on UA-cam watch , the Batmobile drag racer and how the chutes are deployed on the Batmobile at the end of the strip .
My Dad taught me how to do a bootlegger turn. Jam on the parking brake, hard turn to the left or right while releasing the parking brake causing the rearend to slide around gotta be quick!😉
We used to call those " Jim Rockford" turns. Fun times!
The Legendary Bat-U-Turn.
"WHERE AND WHAT?"
What would have happened if Batman needed to make a 2nd emergency bat turn? Did the Batmobile have more than 2 rear Bat Parachutes?
Why is the parachute in front of them after they turn. They only detach it once they've turned around. Also parachute pickup almost finished me 💀
reverse Bat turn was popular with my Hot Rod friends
Batman could’ve just made a quick three point turn, but he was like “ Ya know what? I’m paying Union wages to those two jackoffs in the van EVERY DAY. And they sit in that van with the engine running so they can keep the AC on! It costs a fortune! So I’m putting those fools to work!”
Wait! Why the hell was there not a button for parachute pickup? Why did Robin have to call someone? It is literally needed everytime they deployed the stupid thing! 🪂
Holy popping parachutes, Natterjack. A bat parachute pickup button. You’ve solved it!
I need those chutes on my mint 2001 Camaro Z28!!
The bat-turn is the so fun!❤
BEST BATMOBILE EVER!!!
Can one of you video editing geniuses out there do a 3 or 5 minute loop of Batman & Robin leaning into a "Bat Turn" ? 0:47 Ya' know...kind of an "extended spin" of the bat turn. Only if you can make it look clean and seamless with the background music rolling along smoothly.
Thanks in advance.
Pulling the Emergency Bat-Turn Lever doesn't cause the parachutes to deploy everytime. See Chief OHara scene. So, There must be another button?
Notice that the jet engine is shut off when the chutes are deployed
You’ve got to wonder how frequently Bat Man pulls an Emergency Bat Turn to justify the expense of having a Batmobile Parachute Pick Up Service on 24/7 retainer. But why doesn’t Robin have the initiative to make the call without Batman having to tell him?
Bruce Wayne spared no expense. Money was no object for him. Any cost over runs were simply written off on his taxes.
I remember seeing every single episode of "BATMAN" when it was aired and boy did I enjoy watching it very much.
Please have a nice day today. ©®
