You know, I thought Last Revelation would've been the main reason to bag this collection, but now I think the new and improved Angel of Darkness holds promise.
Honestly, the biggest kicker is being able to see Angel of darkness being fully realized and with actually working control schemes, I’m sure this is gonna be a first time play for a lot of tomb raider fans and rightfully so.
AoD had a wonderfully dark and gothic atmosphere, really reflected the zeitgeist. I'll definitely replay the remaster. At the time, Lara Croft had been raiding tombs for 5 straight games in a row, of course a change was coming.
people say the angel of darkness was full of glitches but the only glitch i ever encountered was once when lara fell she wouldn’t stop screaming even when she was dead 😂
i played AOD on emulator and within the first fifteen minutes of playing i encountered a bug where lara would take fall damage out of nowhere, even though she was standing still
I saw this update a few hours ago. I look forward to seeing more of the restored content as the collection nears its release date! Most, if not all, of my concerns have been relieved! :)
AOD needed most work doing to it to make it playable. Going off what they did with I - III Remastered I'm sure we are in for a few more surprises across the 3 titles in this next remaster when it's released
At first I was only interested in Last Revelation and Chronicles remastered versions, but now things become really more interesting for Angel of Darkness. I played PS2 version, I enjoy it at that time, but now I kinda hate that game because never felt like Tomb Raider.
I had it on PC back in the day and I played it a lot when I was young. It didnt take me very long to figure out how janky and broken it was, and how different it was from the other games. To this day it still isnt my favorite but I think its cool that they're updating it and I'm still pretty excited to see what they do. Knowing that these games are being worked on again is pretty exciting to see.
@nickenhead500 I think the new remaster is gonna address a lot of his issues as well and fix those. This is honestly a gaming milestone considering the state of the original release
@Dario People from the restoration project are working on this right ? So it would be odd if they never added those upgrades. Who knows though, maybe there's other things they're adding thanks to the studio.
This is really really fantastic. I would never thought AoD would get a second chance. I just never saw a future where it would get remade or worked on again. In this case it’s being remastered, but even with that great news, I’d never have thought work and effort would go in to updating, restoring, tweaking and mending the severity of how broken it was. It’s actually being given a new life and I’m so excited for this new turn the game will get.
The only thing I would like sorted for AoD is the controls when jumping. She always went off randomly and it made that one room in the Hall of Seasons with the wind and poles so difficult to do!
I very excited for tomb raider 4-6 remastered. An also the upcoming tomb raider aod remastered is going to fix all the issues, all improvements, and even restoring/bringing back missing contents and features, which is awesome.
Im so excited for 4. I wasn't a huge fan of AOD as it wasn't tomb raiding, and those ridiculous strength and sprint upgrades were stupid. However, i did like the music, darker elements, horror themes and a potential love interest in Kurtis Trent. I am excited to see it remastered, see how they improve it. But im really more waiting on 4 and chronicles.
Yes Lara (and Kurtis too) can definitely fire weapons (any in-game weapons, including shotgun and other types of machine guns) while doing front jumps/side flips/back flips and in crouching pose too, so she can fire both Vector-R35 and Scorpion-X dual pistols while in mid-air. These moves have all been restored and already available in the fanmade AOD Restoration Project (made by reborninshadows) and AOD Definitive Edition (demo) (made by TRJTA, reborninshadows, etc.) mods and I think will and should be available in the upcoming remastered. I see that the item purchase mechanism in both Renne's Pawnshop and the Willowtree Herbalist may be restored to its full potential? It's been partially restored in both Restoration Project and Definitive Edition mods, where in Renne's Pawnshop you can purchase M-V9 pistol and its clips with labelled prices, and in Willowtree Herbalist you can purchase the health pills and herbal mix (which is the originally planned antidote repurposed as the herbal mix for replenishing part of stamina), so now in the upcoming remastered you can also purchase other firearm equipment like silencer and laser sight in Renne's Pawnshop, as well as other types of health items in the Herbalist (and they'll all have labelled prices as shown in the screenshot?) In both two mods a chunk of cut content/story from Murti's scripts has been added to Von Croy's notebook with new HD graphics present and a lot of notebook entries have been re-written, so I guess these will also be available in the remastered. Also about Von Croy's walking cane: the reason why Lara has to pick up the cane and why it then spawns the assassin the Cleaner is because there're 4 Obscura Engravings (purchased by Von Croy from Vasiley) and 2 faxes (between Von Croy and Vasiley) tucked and hidden inside the cane, which contain important clues Lara's looking for, according to Murti's original AOD scripts. This part has been largely restored in the Von Croy's Apartment level in both these two mods, and I think will be available in the remastered too.
The prices on the herbalist screenshot may change upon release but its good that these stores now serve more of a purpose. It's also been mentioned in the article that Von Croy's Cane does contain a secret inside of it.
It certainly had the potential to be, but my version was almost unplayable, so it's not the best for me. This remastered version is definitely looking good, so maybe it will now fulfil its potential.
Nice content man :) can't wait for this one to come out and to try Angel of Darkness, I never could complete it at the time as it really was an unplayable mess
Hmmmmmm, Chirugai, a psychic shield, sprint, that sounds good. I just hope the controls themselves have been improved, and not just the modern ones. I hate the original AOD because of the controls, but you bet it will be the first game I try in the new remaster set.
@@TheGameBreakersUK Well that I understand, and it's always had tank controls, but by fixing I mean: - I don't want Lara randomly veering to the left and falling off when I perform the small hop and expect a normal hop forwards, - I don't want Lara climbing ladders or going through windows just because I approach them. I should be required to press action. I guess I just don't like when code is trying to be smarter than I am, - the delay before jumping should be gone, as it makes Wrath of the Beast hell, - I would expect the "combat mode" movement to be a toggle, as opposed to the original, where the moment Lara or Kurtis aim at an enemy, suddenly the whole movement pattern changes. They start moving in relation to the enemy rather than in relation to the room I'm in. It's not a bad feature but again, code shouldn't try to be smarter than me or "know best", if that makes sense. I should tap a button and change my orientation point myself. Program code shouldn't fight me. And many other things like that. These aren't specific to either control mode; they're just terrible design that should have been caught all these years ago before release. I sure hope they addressed that, as it would suddenly remove lots of things that annoy me and made me hate the original in the first place. Time will tell.
@ Oh no no no, it's going first :) I'm curious about any potential changes and as long as I see big improvement to get rid of the things that annoyed me, my perception will be positive even if I have to wait for a patch or two. But, something tells me AOD is the game they spent the most time on out of the new set, Lastrev being 2nd and Chronicles being 3rd respectively.
The reason why the game was unfinished, was because Eidos separated the team, the PlayStation 2 was new and Core didn't know how to handle it. 6- 1 year was no time ti make a game for the PS2. looking forward to the game and more videos by you.
02:32 En Tomb Raider Legend y Anniversary Lara no disparaba mientras hacía su salto hacia atrás mientras estaba en el aire. No me asombra que en AOD tampoco lo haga. En TR1, 2, 3. Yes, please get rid of that stuff. It was a novel idea, but it was very silly, in my opinion. I never completed the game, but I do seem to recall there was a similar thing with sprinting. That was even more bizarre. She couldn't sprint until she had upgraded her abilities. What! I may have the sprint upgrade wrong, but I do seem to remember it vaguely. I am really looking forward to a fully working, glitch free game with all the silly bits taken out. Then, AOD should be the brilliant game that it had the potential to be. They should also deal with some of the dialogue. For instance, in the French discotheque level, all the security guards repeat the same phrase. Don't know what they are saying, but it was a bit irritating. This is just a minor quibble, though.
Man... I was very young when I gotten this on PS2 originally, and for reasons had to wait an entire year (grounded lol) before I vould even play it. Biggest disappointment of my childhood. Later into my adult life, I gotten to see the hacked version and all of the cut stuff that was supposed to be. Ive even played the Saturn Beta with dual aiming. Finally, the real kicker was finding out how CD screwed over the Core Design team, with the Anniversary Editions after "Legend". I have that particular compiled build on my hacked PSP 🙏💜🎮🕹️📲💯 I've followed Lara Croft since a child, and seen every iteration. While not every one was my favorite, none can come close to the anticipation (and later disappointment lol) i had for Angel of Darkness. There are deleted scenes from the original games and a bonus king tut level on Revolution I hope they put all deleted scenes in the remastered and any bonus levels
@@TazmanianDevil-y6b TBF, I don't think CORE even got the chance to create the levels themselves as there doesn't seem to be any unused models, textures or layouts for them. The only things we got are names and a concept for how some of the levels would have connected. We don't even know what those levels even look like and even if Aspyr and Saber were to work on them, they probably would be a lot different then what was originally envisioned (especially since its likely some of the people who worked on AoD aren't around anymore). Whilst I would have loved to see what could have been, I'm okay with what we got as those extra levels would have made the game longer and take lot longer for the collection to come out as they would have to create all of those levels and everything to do with them from scratch like the textures (both in the original and remastered designs), cutscenes, AI mobs, traps, puzzles, layout, items and placements, collision, etc.
I was hoping they'd change the menu/subtitles font, the original one always looked so bland and generic to me, and IMO contributed to that feeling of the game being unfinished/unpolished, like something you'd use as a placeholder early on. It looks like plain Arial to me 😆
@@Potkanka For me it's the opposite, the font you see everywhere was also used in AOD (even if technically not the same one), it's like when you see comic sans being used somewhere and it's hard to take it seriously 😆 Mind you I'm talking about the generic white font and not something like the title logo, all of the previous TR games had more stylized fonts and even its successors did (anniversary having the typewriter-like font at least outside of the PS3 version, legend and underworld having like a "modern"/hi-tech kinda style). Nowadays it also feels like every single new game uses a generic font with zero personality 😆 and arguably AOD would benefit from a unique one more than any of the others. Instead, having something like Arial in a game reminds me more of unfinished fangames, especially mobile ones 😆 but I mean it's whatever to me at the end of the day
@@unsavourylittlerunt Oh yeah I figured out later you must mean the simple font, not the one used for the menu or the notebook. It's true that that one isn't very interesting, but I suppose I'm used to it. Perhaps they could change it to something else that'd be more interesting, but I'm not sure it's something to be "fixed". They'd have to be careful with their choice.
@@Potkanka True, the notebook font is a good example actually. That being said, if they were to change it (which they won't anyway), they could totally take a much more subtle approach. There are fonts that for the most part don't look too different but they still have a bit of "personality" going on. I feel like it can go a long way for its presentation, one game that took it to the next level IMO is Bayonetta, not only for things like the font but even menu animations and everything, and otherwise I feel like AOD already has a very pretty title screen all around
I'm very curious about how AoD will end up. I had the game back when it came out for PS2 but never finish it because I got bored half way through, maybe this time it will be different.
I never played Angel of Darkness myself as you seemed to play Curtis Trent more then Lara but I guess I can give this a go. I sort of tapped out at Chronicles as it seemed short for a TR game. But if they are making AOD better that can only be a good thing.
If I remember correctly, you only play as Kurtis for two levels and one boss fight, and as Lara for the rest of the game. All-in-all I would guess it’s less than 10% of game time.
Yeah. As the others said, you still play as Lara for the majority. At least 85-90% of the game. I think the trailers just wanted to highlight the new playable character. I'd say AOD (especially if remastered) is worth playing. It has hands down the best sountrack of all the games, some of the best designed and realised environments and a really intriguing and more epic story. Plus its own unique personality which is similar enough to the previous Core Design installments to feel like a continuation but different enough to feel like its own thing. It's darker, edgier and just has class. The controls were terrible and made it a slog before, even if you were well versed in the classic controls it didn't help, but with these fixes I think this will be a great opportunity to give it a go 😅
Its going to have both tank and the modern controls. The Tomb Raider article that I go over in this video recommends modern controls for AOD. Previous statements have said all 3 games in the collection will have both.
@@TheGameBreakersUKfrom what I've played of the OG AOD, they were going for modern like tank controls and they didn't really land. I use tank controls on TR1-5, but i think them recommending midern controls for AOD is the right call. Those should coear up a lot of issues people had playing AOD.
@@josephweaver7140 I think that’s a bug with the PSN store because it always has the “Playable only on PS5” tag on games for me when you can obviously buy them on PS4
AOD is a REMASTER NOT A REMAKE. You can't change too much control wise or its not the same game! If she can shoot mid-air and shoot like TR1 - 5 surely the game would be too easy. Better graphics and control handling will be amazing though.
Shooting in middle air while jumping was intended to be in AoD, but they didn't have time to implant that, also game won't become more easy because of this
It will be a Remaster that Feels like a remake in places. Of course TR 4 and TR 5 will be getting the Remastered Treatment but AOD will be getting lots of cut content and features re-added back in that were intended but not available in the original release
@@Darwaxion if you read on the website their restoring a TONN of stuff not accessible in every previous version of the game, they added new moves for Lara and Kurtis, added new sections and story elements This is far beyond just a remaster this is gonna be a blend between remaster and remake lmao
Please stop saying that Aspyr is the developer because it's Aspyr's lie. Saber is the only developer of the game. Aspyr is only the publisher but they hide the truth about Saber.
Members from Saber probably have had a hand in developing, as development started in summer 2023 according to the Steam Database. But Saber are not owned by Embracer anymore. Saber bought themselves out and are now own by Beacon interactive.
@@TheGameBreakersUK I know that Saber is not a part of Embracer but this has nothing to do with the fact that the only and true developer of 6 remastered TR games is Saber Studio. Aspyr is only the publisher, nothing more. The same was with Eidos and Core. Eidos didn't have anything to do with making TR games. Core Design did it.
@@Cez24 This is not true at all. Ken Cobb, from Aspyr was part of the development team in the first remaster and on this one too. Just ask to Xproger, he already confirmed that Aspyr team worked in development of this game.
Among the things i wish would be implemented (besides what was mentioned in this video and the gravely important stuffs) is to have her black glassess in the item menu from the start of the game (not to be unlocked as a new game plus) to be able to equip from the get go
They will probably be in outfit selector like they are in I - III. If not they may have a button combination like I - III had before outfit selector came along
Unpopular opinion: To me Angel of Darkness is the only Tomb Raider game that you can play as a different character decides Lara and I think Kurtis's character doesn't well develop as Lara in The Game's storyline and having him as a playable character is weird.

Ive even played the Saturn Beta with dual aiming. Finally, the real kicker was finding out how CD screwed over the Core Design team, with the Anniversary Editions after "Legend". I have that particular compiled build on my hacked PSP 🙏💜🎮🕹️📲💯
I've followed Lara Croft since a child, and seen every iteration. While not every one was my favorite, none can come close to the anticipation (and later disappointment lol) i had for Angel of Darkness. I cannot wait to see this beauty restored to full glory 🙏🫂🎮🕹️💜💯
will we also get the levels that were previously scrapped, like germany and turkey
There are deleted scenes from the original games and a bonus king tut level on Revolution I hope they put all deleted scenes in the remastered and any bonus levels
If you mean "The Times - Bonus Level" in Revelation then yes that was confirmed back when the game was announced.
@ ok yes
I would like to see the missing Germany levels from AOD added back in
Unfortunately, there is no trophy or achievement for completing the German castle level...
And Turkey
@Blarzek I'm disappointed to hear that. Why remaster the game and not finish it again..... with the Germany and Turkey levels. Seems like a waste
@@TazmanianDevil-y6b
TBF, I don't think CORE even got the chance to create the levels themselves as there doesn't seem to be any unused models, textures or layouts for them.
It looks like plain Arial to me 😆
Menus will probably get a similar treatment to what I - III Remastered got.
I think AoD fans would riot if the font changed, it's THE AoD font for us. When we see the font anywhere else, we're like: "Oooh AoD!" 😆
@@Potkanka For me it's the opposite, the font you see everywhere was also used in AOD (even if technically not the same one), it's like when you see comic sans being used somewhere and it's hard to take it seriously 😆
Mind you I'm talking about the generic white font and not something like the title logo, all of the previous TR games had more stylized fonts and even its successors did (anniversary having the typewriter-like font at least outside of the PS3 version, legend and underworld having like a "modern"/hi-tech kinda style).
Nice😊
Une question qui doit le barber !
I'm very curious about how AoD will end up. I had the game back when it came out for PS2 but never finish it because I got bored half way through, maybe this time it will be different.
It is having a lot of work done to it to restore it to not only a finished state but a much more playable experience
I never played Angel of Darkness myself as you seemed to play Curtis Trent more then Lara but I guess I can give this a go. I sort of tapped out at Chronicles as it seemed short for a TR game. But if they are making AOD better that can only be a good thing.
@@Freyafanboy90 kurtis is only there for a few stages
The controls were terrible and made it a slog before, even if you were well versed in the classic controls it didn't help, but with these fixes I think this will be a great opportunity to give it a go 😅
Would be great if there was on option to play aod in tank controls
Its going to have both tank and the modern controls. The Tomb Raider article that I go over in this video recommends modern controls for AOD. Previous statements have said all 3 games in the collection will have both.
@@TheGameBreakersUK No Way! That's amazing!
@@TheGameBreakersUKfrom what I've played of the OG AOD, they were going for modern like tank controls and they didn't really land. I use tank controls on TR1-5, but i think them recommending midern controls for AOD is the right call. Those should coear up a lot of issues people had playing AOD.
I'm SO hyped for my AOD remaster 😭 I hope it gets the justice it finally deserves.
thanks for the update
Don't like the idea of stores in TR
According to my PSN cart, for Playstation, it's only playable on the PS5. Sony is not releasing it on the PS4.
@@josephweaver7140 I think that’s a bug with the PSN store because it always has the “Playable only on PS5” tag on games for me when you can obviously buy them on PS4
Buying the PS5 version should give you access to the PS4 version as well
AOD is a REMASTER NOT A REMAKE. You can't change too much control wise or its not the same game! If she can shoot mid-air and shoot like TR1 - 5 surely the game would be too easy. Better graphics and control handling will be amazing though.
I´m sure we will got something more than just a remaster with this one
Shooting in middle air while jumping was intended to be in AoD, but they didn't have time to implant that, also game won't become more easy because of this
It will be a Remaster that Feels like a remake in places.
Of course TR 4 and TR 5 will be getting the Remastered Treatment but AOD will be getting lots of cut content and features re-added back in that were intended but not available in the original release
Angel of Darkness doesn't seem to have changed other than dual pistols
@@Darwaxion if you read on the website their restoring a TONN of stuff not accessible in every previous version of the game, they added new moves for Lara and Kurtis, added new sections and story elements
This is far beyond just a remaster this is gonna be a blend between remaster and remake lmao
AI upscale someone else's textures then add nothing but some new bugs/glitches, then take all the credit for someone else's work and creation: Aspyr
Yes I just hope it won't be only unlocked after finishing the game @@TheGameBreakersUK
i hope they kick the stupid progression system for strength and stamina
I doubt because that is part of the game, the thing they can do is improving the system
Unpopular opinion: To me Angel of Darkness is the only Tomb Raider game that you can play as a different character decides Lara and I think Kurtis's character doesn't well develop as Lara in The Game's storyline and having him as a playable character is weird.
That's why they are adding more things in. Hopefully it will flesh out these characters a bit more.
The remasters made me realize I hate tomb raider 😅😅😅 I hate the controls 😅 jumping fine throughout the game. Have to jump over spikes? Sudden death
