I'd have to agree, but sometimes if a Chateaubriand is overcooked or roasted like a prime rib, and then cut improperly it can look like brisket. It didn't have enough fat on it to be a brisket in my opinion. It was probably a center cut of a tenderloin that they cook in bulk and tenderize the poop out of it with a sledgehammer, and then cut with the grain. I'd be horrible on a cruise, because I would want to complain if something was cooked improperly, and ultimately would feel bad for the wait staff who is doing the best they can.
Chateaubriand is french. Normally couples back in the day would have this. It consists of a large front fillet of tenderloin grilled betwen two lesser cuts of meat discarded after cooking. (Courtesy of Wikipedia).
A UA-camr went on a $40,000 cruise to Antarctica. The food was very good there for that kind of money 😅 maybe they took part of the oysters out for other dishes 😂
Chateaubrianx ("sha - toh - bree -ahnd") - I take. that to mean the center cut from the beef tenderloin. I'm not sure that looked like it. I wonder what beef grade they used. With all of those passengers and food spreads, I'm sure food is a major cost to the cruise line. Danny - Would you go on a cruise again?
Will you be making a video comparing your experiences on the two "free" cruises? NCL looks better for food and bed, but MSC has better weather and a casino.
i wont be.. because It was not my intent to compare the two, so I dont remember much about the first one.. u know, like I did not make notes or prepare to compare, these are just vlogs of my expereince for ur viewing pleasure!
at 10:21 - it appears to be the tail end of the loin, i get them on sale for about 1/2 the price of the fuller fillet pieces. they are longer and not cut agains the grain, thus, the look it has and its not as tender, from what i have had. thus, why its so cheap. and its stringy cause its the strands of the muscle. so, its clear they cheaped out on the soup, steak and oysters. thats too bad.
As legend has it, the chateaubriand was named after a French aristocrat named François-René de Chateaubriand, whose chef invented a method of cooking a large, boneless cut of beef by wrapping it in poor-quality steaks (sometimes recounted as the smaller end pieces from the filet), tying it up, grilling it until charred
The beef appeared to be from a brisket. The oyster was too small to come from that large a shell. Perhaps the oyster was from a can? About the size of canned smoked oysters.
i heard rumors that some places just use bagged oyster meats, and they reuse the shells like as if they were little plates, u know, wash them and etc... but i dont know if this was the case... i just have no idea
"Hope they don't charge me extra...." "Just tastes like salty water... " "Polly-O String Beef....." LOLOL. Your videos are so funny! Chateaubriand is french - it is basically the center cut portion of the beef tenderloin. It was (supposedly) named after a French writer/diplomat named François-René de Chateaubriand who was supposedly the founder. Sorry the meal wasn't as good as you were expecting.
So far I’m not impressed with the quality of the food. I like the fact that you dissect the food like a medical examiner dissects a corpse. I can count on you giving an honest/unbiased review. Happy Luna New Year. The parade in Flushing was fun, and I had Beef Chow Fun for dinner; which looked and tasted better than that sad beef, which looked like it had the whip marks on it, since it came in last at Aqueduct racetrack 🏇😀
@@dannythemedic I get it a a number of Chinese restaurants in Flushing (this way I don’t get bored). One of my favorite places to eat is at the New World Mall, which has over 40 different asian “restaurants ”. Flushing has the largest Chinese population in the U.S. and it is growing daily. I have travel numerous times to the Asia and I can get meals in Flushing that are as good as the meals I have had in Asia.
Wow. That meal did not look appetizing at all. 😒Dessert looked the best. Seems the dining room has more misses than hits. Stick to the buffet.😁Hope you still enjoyed your free cruise despite mediocre food.
I went to experience what it is and to make videos of whatever i find.. and I feel like I accomplished that, so with that specific goal in mind.. i feel satisfied.
i dont think that would make a difference, thousands of meals served daily and this is how they been doing it all this time.. they aint gonna change anytime soon.
For a fancy restaurant to be serving up mediorce buffet type food is unacceptable. Do they have any beef chow fun? You should have brought Chef AJ on the cruise.
Every dish on this cruise seemed quite undersized and average. Even Gordon Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen gives a bigger portion. These meals are equivalent to airplane meals lol.
Danny… Don’t you need to “dress-up” for this Gala Dinner? You still dressed the same as usual. I thought they required you to put on a sport jacket or something for the formal night. 😮
Only can say Yuk to your dinner. Definitely not authentic Chateaubriand that is usually $150+ for 2 at highend steakhouses and restaurants. Authentic Chateaubriand is delicious.
The only thing I've seen you eat on that ship that looked good was the shrimp. No way was that chateaubriand. The soups looked odd and unappetizing. The meats all looked low quality. I had an opportunity for a "free" cruise this May but declined when it was actually going to cost me about $2000 when all said and done.
The soup looked aweful Not fit for consumsiin but a toilet bowel cleaner. The beef looked like a strip loin sliced or a cheaper but just sliced cheap cut Beef with a over prices name
makes sense... They did have a rich people offering on the ship, I think they call it the yacht club.. I will probably never experience something like that, I just do not see the justification of cost.
Norwegian cruise line for me.Yep😊
😂 Off you go to the regular buffet.
toodleloo
Great video as always!
I would have left still hungry after that meal.
Wow! Danny the Medic was pushing the limits! He got 3 starters! He didn’t know that French beef dish! lol! Who knows these things??
I never go hungry on a cruise, the buffet is almost always open!
You can order as much food as you want.😊 Of anything on the menu.😊
there is fine print, $5 extra per additional free entree plate
I have been on 13 msc cruises and have ordered multiple entries and have never been charged the $5 fee. As long as you dont waste @@dannythemedic
That Chateaubriand was NOT cut from the tenderloin portion of beef. The real thing is absolutely tender and delicious.
Yeah looked like a brisket or pot roast. Way cheaper cut then tenderloin

I hope those oysters weren't from Puget sound with added fentanyl. They looked under fed. Thanks for showing us Danny. Good show!
Like I said in one of the other videos, desserts save the day! Lol
I am not impressed with either the food or service on this cruise. Thanks for doing this Danny. This isn't a cruise I would take. Glad it was "free"
"free" was worth a try...

Your first Cruise seems to have been your best Cruise...So Far...
Pocket string beef von fun😂 positive is likely grass fed healthy from EU❤
Well after watching your videos on the food I would never go on this cruise line.
Danny you can order the whole menu if you want. And coffee is always free in the DR.
im sure they will provide if I did.. but extra entree was 5 bucks each as listed in the menu
Not on MSC and not on Carnival which charges $5 after the second entree.

They cut it length wise. Should be more circular against grain.

I will be going on another cruise again.

Watching your videos for the first time. Don't take me wrong, but you remind me of Mr Bean lol
Nice video in funny way😂
Welcome aboard! i hope u enjoy.. cheers
❤😂
Should of called that roast beef and gravy instead of shadowbriann
The oyster looks like they sliced half off when shucking
Wow you fancy tonight Danny I'm eating some spam with A1 Steak sauce for lunch so good😉😬😁👌
Free is great. But the best cruise line is Celebrity. MSC is almost like Walmart of the sea
walmart of the sea.... that is thought inspiring
Make way for Danny, he has to get to the buffet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i did go!

This guy's mannerisms are so funny.
Beef looks like the cheap pot roast my grandma used to make but she cooked it longer to get it tender.
Chateaubriand is a French name. It comes from Mr. François René de Chateaubriand, a French writer and politician.
French writer and politician? ima google that! LOL

Yet another disappointing meal. Thanks for your honest reviews. Off to the buffet!
I went to the buffet!
Sorbet washes all the bad tastes away. Thank you Danny
the desserts were really good, I cant explain why
That might be a petite fillet (teres major) and not a fillet/tenderloin
Merci beaucoup tres bein

"Sorry the meal wasn't as good as you were expecting." actually, I have no expectations, I just sit there and see whatever comes my way!
@@dannythemedic Always very honored to watch and enjoy your videos! Thanks for sharing.
great attitude!@@dannythemedic
I thought that beef looked like tri tip when I saw it. Surprised you got Clam Chowder and Oyster Rockefeller because of the dairy in them.
a little bit is okay
So Danny, what are you spending your $400 on board credit on? Spa treatments? Casino buy in?
it was my goal to just cash it out at the casino. danny the medic dont spend extra
Are you kidding me the steaks aren't included !! those entrees were not that great.
There was a new York steak included, lower down on the menu...
How can they call that chateaubriand? It's suppose to be a thick cut of meat not slices, that looks like pot roast😊
Danny, if I could grant you a superpower, what would it be?
superman
I was thinking about a cruise on MSC as the fares are pretty decent, However, the food on your videos and others tell me it is not worth the effort.
Go get you a slice of pizza.😊
Beef Brisket, that is what it was. Chateaubriand, it was not! when I sail it will be on a different line, for sure.
It's like the center of the tenderloin

@@dannythemedic I think that the best Kosher Chinese restaurant in Manhattan is Eden Wok at 43 E. 34th Street. No pork or shell fish is served.

Free food? I could go for that.
Should have hit the buffet each and every day instead of those lousy restaurants :D
i basically did, the restaurant portions leave room for that! :)
Don't get fat! 😀@@dannythemedic
What a rip off ! All cruise lines have cut back on portion size and quality, hence forcing customers to pay for specialty dinning.
🤠🤠🤠❤❤❤
No chance that is Chateaubriand.
I would have called the DR manager over. Let them know how terrible the meal has been. Just tell the waiter how disappointed you are.
i dont think that would make a difference, thousands of meals served daily and this is how they been doing it all this time.. they aint gonna change anytime soon.
Doesn't look like chateaubriand, looks like regular old roast beef, lol.
Should be served rare/med rare. Strangest I have ever seen.
Chateaubriand. Too bad it's not as easy to pronounce as Beef Chow Fun.
its the way they decided to spell it... they could have made it easy.. but noooooo
I had chowder at a Diner today that looked 100% better than that.
Polly-O steak. 😂 Maybe more like Polly-0 steak. I can't believe they let a newbie cut beef.

Not impressed with your numerous Dining Hall Food. Should have tried the Buffet more and dining hall less.
I usually go to the buffet right after the dining room
You did not like ANYTHING on this free cruise!
not true
episode 13 will reveal some of my thoughts
What a disappointing meal! When a ”fine dining” restaurant can’t even make a decent soup, that’s a bad sign.
after eating there a few times, I feel like this is more of a quick serve bistro operation trying to mimic some aspects of so called "fine dining"
The soup looked aweful Not fit for consumsiin but a toilet bowel cleaner. The beef looked like a strip loin sliced or a cheaper but just sliced cheap cut Beef with a over prices name
Go on a cheap cruise , you're in for some cheap food.

@@dannythemedic , sometimes prices can be too excessive , but at the same time we can't expect gold for the price of bronze.
