This is so clear, Michael basically felt a bit insecure and his ego got dented when he was with Amber as she had a big personality too and didn't let him speak as much but he did really like her. What he should have done is just voice that to her so they could sort it out and both feel appreciated. But instead they didn't and he met Joanna who made him feel more alpha and appreciated I guess and stroked his ego. That's why he recoupled with her even though he clearly had better chemistry and deeper feelings for Amber. Also so shitty he came back and gaslit Amber, blaming her for all this and not even allowing her to be angry and upset as it made everyone turn against him. When he was with Joanna and she left, think he was still thinking about Amber in the back of his mind and finally when Joanna left, he had the audacity to say it didn't mean anything and come crawling back to Amber when someone else was interested in her. Basically moral of the story: talk things out: what's making you unhappy, don't do stuff based on ego and don't get a rebound as it'll just end up hurting a lot of people.
