I was born in 1969. I remember watching this back when we had like three main TV channels (2, 11, 13) and a few on UHF. I think I may have seen this on either Ghost Host or Creature Feature. Lol, good times when you're like 10 years old seeing it. *_TRUST !!_*
4:10-4:13 This is exactly how that fight was seen in the trailer. But not with the women screaming & running for their lives. 5:15-5:17 Even this shot of the Ymir fighting with the Elephant also fits together without being cut for a couple seconds. 6:14-6:23 This too was seen in the trailer without being cut off for awhile.
The Ymir is one of Harryhausen's most tragic monsters; captured and brought to an alien world, wracked by uncontrollable transformation (growth) due to an alien atmosphere that must surely be causing it great pain, unable to understand or be understood by the strange native life, hounded and hunted at every turn despite being peaceful by nature and only attacking when first provoked (recall the lamb it spared, the dog, and the dumbass with the pitchfork), caught and experimented on, and finally killed.
Bonus: 6:47 The same sound effects for one of the cyclops from The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. Especially the part where the other Bigger Cyclops fought & lost the encounter with the Dragon.
That's because ORIGINALLY Ray Harryhausen wanted to make the Ymir a cyclops but later decided on a reptilian humanoid that we see here in the final product.

A animação em stop motion é sem dúvida a melhor técnica para ser usada em filmes de monstros é por essa razão que os filmes antigos onde o stop motion foi usado serem muito melhores que os filmes em CG que são usados nos dias de hoje !
Not gonna lie, part of me HATED watching this movie because from the first time this creature opened its eyes it was constantly harassed, attacked, insulated by the exact same woman TWICE and finally murdered in cold blood and people say the Giganotosaurus from Jurassic World Dominion did nothing wrong. Seeing it's death scene again, I wanted to cry as this creature it was the only character I rooted for and despied every human in the film, I didn't even feel sorry for the dog or the elephant as just like the humans they struck first and that's coming from me who doesn't like seeing animals getting hurt/killed.
It went from being slightly smaller than an elephant to something bigger than a giraffe, is there story i need to know how it got bigger or so it just looks more badass?
From what I understand from the movie, *this is not a dinosaur, but rather an alien from Planet Venus,* the hottest planet in the solar system. Their species is called Ymiri, and they have a different anatomy to survive the harsh and hot atmosphere of Venus. When brought to earth, as an egg, it reacts with the oxygen and nitrogen in our atmosphere, making it mutate and grow very fast. At first it was as big as a chicken, then grew into human size (3 - 6 feet), then after capture, it was taller than an indian Elephant (almost 10 feet). During its rampage through the city, it grew even more bigger and dwarfed the bridge Ponte Saint Angelo (which is 7 meters or 23 feet in depth) At the end of the film, it was as tall as pillars of temple of saturn, which is 11 meters tall (36 feet). In the sequel comics another member of Ymir's species grew upto 20 meters tall.
I adore Ray Harryhausen stop motion animation! Thanks! - Heather

The Blonde Screaming at 6:15 Makes me laugh 😂😂 Typical of 1950's movies 🎬
Another Ray Harryhaussen master piece.
3:02 Not only does the monster have the same armature as the cyclops from Sinbad. But it also has the same roar.

Awesome!
Always wondered what if the Tyranids ever faced off against the arachnids of starship troopers..now that would be a good scrap 😢😊
“Um actually, its’s called the Ymir” 🤓

Great stop motion work. That elephant model amazes me every time. Sadly I don't like this movie. The Ymir didn't deserve this.
Esse é das antigas, foi estito 😢
Size change
This one lives under my bed😊
This creature is called Ymir
Called by who? His name is never mentioned in the film.
What's your favourite rey harryhausen movie?

They didn’t do a good job explaining it. It had something to do with the earths atmosphere making it grow faster

King -Kong hubiera derrotado a ese monstruo!
The Creature looks like Godzilla and The Black Lagoon combined.
Is this by the book created by Jules Verne?
No it is not.
You're probably thinking of, "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea." That's not this...

Why Rome ?
Because Ray Harryhausen wanted to vacation there while working. Literally, that's why
If there s ever a reboot or remake, they should interdouce the Ymir Creture, into the Monsterverse, having him appear on Skull Island,
A reboot of the Ymir, still would be an interesting remake,
