Lots of missed fish on this trip so will have plenty to improve on for this fall’s fly fishing adventures!

In my 40+ years of fly-fishing in predominately the Thompson/Okanagan, predominately BC lake fishing. I have spent very, very little time Chironomid fishing, in spite of it being such a staple of the Kamloops trout especially in the right lakes and time of year. For me, Scuds, Leeches #1, and attractors such as a half or full back, damsel or dragon fly nymph are consistent.
Chironomid fishing with a float and require dedicated attention or lots of misses. Getting the right pattern and depth is also a factor.
The others mentioned on the other hand always attract hard attention on the strike the majority of the time whether casting or trolling. I rarely still fish, almost exclusively troll #1 or cast

When you troll are you using an intermediate sinking line? and how do you know how much line you should be letting out? I do see a lot more people on the lake Trolling but haven't been out enough to see what is more effective. There is something about watching the indicator go down that is unbeatable though I have to admit, big shot of dopamine once you see it move after staring at it for so long
