lmao...when I was in Junior High in Florida back in the late 60's, in Gym class when it would rain we'd play what the coaches called Battle Ball...the entire gym class would be picked into two large teams by the captains (and the bigger stronger kids did indeed get picked first of course...and the last kids picked looked just like Winston, short, small framed and with glasses). Once the teams were picked the coaches would roll out about 20 volleyballs in the middle of the basketball court and it was on. The only rules were you couldn't cross the foul line on either end and if you were hit you were out for good...so you had people running into the other end (all the way to the foul line)...it was a wild dangerous melee and fun as hell...you had to have your head on a swivel and for the kids that didn't, it never failed that someone got nailed hard in the side of the head on a ball he never saw coming...I specifically remember a kid just like Winston taking a brutal side shot to the head from a cross court throw by a big kid that he never saw coming...like I said, it was brutal and much more dangerous than dodgeball...thus the name Battle Ball...but when it rained we all hoped the coaches would let us play rather than just play basketball.
Not necessarily. Obviously it’s a film within a film, so the script is probably worse than the actual film. Second, the kid doesn’t say he doesn’t know about dodgeball, just how it’s played. I see the concern, but if I was a character in the film, I wouldn’t be bothered by it. Considering the film was made in the 50s in the films universe.
