All of these players are bringing their A-game, but Abubakar came in swinging and hasn't stopped. He goes from authoritarian to warmth depending on who he's addressing seemlessly. An actor playing an actor playing a role.
@@ximotionlessSAME! and what i love about him on hotd is how timid and withdrawn he is. its the opposite of Silaha, and just goes to show how much range he has as an actor.
Brennan’s portrayal of Father Milo is one of my favorite NPCs of all time and we’ve only seen him for the better part of an hour. I can’t wait to see what the devious little guy is up to.
Just rewatched Brennan’s Adventuring Academy with Nick, where he says that part of why he liked 3.5 is the multiclassing. If I’m honest my assumption was that Brennan chose Taliesin (who he played with in one shots for Pat Rothfus’ charity) and Nick because he knew they were capable of handling characters with all the powers that come at 20th level.
I didn’t realize when watching live, but the way you described it in this recap, the fall of Tengar kinda reflects Eve eating the apple in the garden of Eden, with Idun picking the fruit and leading to the fall. I’m not super religious anymore, but having been raised on it, I find it really interesting when creation myths get used in different media and tell a different tale!
@@anarissa29 Even better - it's synthetic! Idun and Eden. A fruit from a tree of knowledge. A Christian allegory and also a reference to Norse mythology, with Idun's apples.
I really like Lauras Performance as _the matron of ravens_ - she doesnt just want _"death"_ , death is neutral as comes for everyone at a point. *The Moment* where I cried, was when Ashley said Goodbye to her children and this is wholesome & lovely beyond words.. The matron ask Purvan for one Last Favor, as they Part ways: See, that they get out of Here save 😭 Showing also death Herself has compassion and cares for her siblings😊
I don't know who the guy is that's playing the dawnfather, but damn I love his performance so far! But to be fair they're all suuuper amazing and it's hard to pick favourite at this point. I usually have trouble with Talisen's brash characters (which probably just speaks for his amazing portrayal of them) but this one feels so alien to me as it should, that it's also pretty amazing.
After stressing several times that this is a vision that Bell's Hells is seeing, I'm eager to get confirmation whether or not the prologue is part of it. It seems plausible that if the device recorded memories of deific avatars in Aeor, then it could have grabbed memories from before the schism since lore has already established that at least some gods have perfectly clear memories of the time before Exandria.
Idk why but at 18:23 Ayden(dawnfather) sounding like superman to me 😂 idk maybe it's the whole sun thing and using his power to not just kill as a first instinct. I think the dawnfather must have got jaded over the years and lost that hope.
Taliesin is friends with multiple people who worked on the dub for that show, so it makes sense. (Also, I think Taliesin has said before that he loves Wolf's Rain, but I could be wrong)
Stumbled upon this video looking for an explanation of downfall part 1 as I was a little confused. Absolutely loved your recap so thank you. New subscriber!
Haven't settled on any favorites yet. This was the setup episode, where all the potential is laid out, so I'm curious to see how that potential is realized or thwarted. Not a single favorite moment, either, though I loved any moment when SILAHA says "darling".
Theory: The Emissary is the Lawbringer's heart, that's why it went to Asha first. Sure, he's made of ice and stone, but the Lawbringer is leading with her heart. Second Theory: Umleta is the Cloaked Serpent. Arcadia is the Spider Queen. That's why she decided no one needed to reveal their divine identities.
Factorum Malleus/ Malleus Key?? Wording is important in Brennan's games. I love when Brennan and Matt collaborate! An amazing pair of brains on one campaign is so worth watching. I am so here for it. I will get to listen tonight on the 37th year of my marriage. What a great anniversary gift to be given the gift of story from the 2 best DMs ever!
Pretty far behind and planning yo go to the CR photoshoot at Dragon con, so this is great to help me skip these episodes without losing.too much. Thank you!
Lets go, hopefully that way i get my journey going again after ep99. I just hope campaign 3 will end soon to make way for hopefully another campaign 1 or 2 like experience.
In Brennan's first foray in The Calamity, he tooka lot of time with each player/character introduction. In this first part he threw them at us suddenly, almost all at once, and suspended in a stew of NPCs. I was lost and stopped watching after about half an hour. The Calamity was my favorite of all Critical Role shows.Downfall ... disappoints. Love all the players, but this one seems to be a mess, to me. Thanks for your recap, but it only reaffirmed my initial impressions. Cheers, y'all.
I won't lie, I kinda feel that too lol. It's not that the role-playing or story are bad, at all. It's really very interesting. But my god, Nick, you don't need to think about your next line for 30 seconds lol 😂 I'm still loving it though
Agree! At first thought Nick was just unsure of himself but think it is a character choice. Makes sense for an eternal divine being to take his sweet time, but my spicy brain was thankful I could increase playback speed 😂
Yeah, 4+ hours of this stuff is more than I can stand. I'll just come back to it when episode 102 drops. Hopefully this is just one time thing, but sadly I think it's not considering this is the second time they've completely derailed the campaign to do something that's completely unnecessary. This may be information that some people would want to know about but it certainly isn't essential in any way. The campaign could've just kept going without it and people wouldn't even realize they were "missing out". I understand why they chose to lump it in with CR because no one's really interested in this radio drama stuff (Midst did fail miserably after all), which means three episodes of a new EXU with nothing happening would be pointless. It would've gone over much better if Matt had just gone "you all fall unconscious and dream this" then told the story directly to the party. There was no need for this to be scripted with other guests involved.
I assume they had pre-planned the Downfall/Crown Keepers guests spots to cover Sam's absence before he had FCG peace out. A messy but understandable work around for a difficult situation, and don't think that will become the norm. I really enjoy the supplementary EXU adventures but know it's not for everyone. I'm sure Matt's recap of Downfall will be enough for those that choose to skip it.

Abubakar's voice as SIlaha.... I could barely pay attention to what he was saying, I love that voice so much
"Raise the defenses, and get this man a shield!"
Brennan Lee Mulligan as Father Milo brings me much joy

If the Emissary doesn't explode at the end then nothing makes sense.
I keep saying Dawnfall
Cool name.
what if the gods that vanished just show up as gods in Critical Role's new game system? :0
They are trying to stuff 10 pounds of lore into a 5 pound sack. 3 episodes just isn't enough time for them to do this justice.
We said the same about Calamity and they more than delivered. Brennan knows very well how to make the most out of limited time, I'm not worried at all
@@swiftlymurmurs I didn't say the same. Calamity was longer than this and had a tighter framing.
Why only 3 episodes?
So these are the Exandrian Jesuses? Jesi? What's the plural of Jesus
It's Jesus and his adventuring party.
Jesus is a name, therefor it's "Jesuses".
It's actually Jesopodes, from the Greek
@@swiftlymurmurs thank you
