''There is a legend of a man who lives beneath the sea. He is a fisher of men, a last hope for all those who've been left behind. He is know as the Guardian.''
@wbvp I agree that the PJs had that others may live before the rescue swimmers so others may live. But I have known 2 PJs, and talked with many more, and none of them were anything but happy to share their motto with others willing to die to save someone they didnt even know.Cheers to the PJs and rescue swimmers, and all those who happily put their lives on the line to save those who can't save themselves.
To all the angry PJ fans, for future reference, the navy rescue swimmers were the first with the motto in 1918. This was followed by the Air Force PJs in 1943 and then the coast guard later branches off of our swimmers and kept it. So if it's really that big of a deal to all of you, we had it first. So Others May Live
@wbvp It's a completely different mission. I don't see the need to train for HALO jumps when rescuing someone on a vessel. Glad you're your own hero though, must be nice.
Is it bad that i got So others may live tattooed on my arm I wasn't part of either of these I was in the Marines MEU Its a Humanitarian aid that also catches HVI then right now im a volunteer firefighter and im going to collage to get paid for it I didnt know it was their motto till i watched inside combat rescue I got it because i wanted to be a firefighter a Marine I wanted to be the guy putting my life on the line for other so is it ok that i got it tattooed on my arm?
To all these people saying the CG stole mottos...big deal get over it you will never have respect for the CG until YOU are drowning and need help and the CG come out and risk their neck for yours...i think that is the same as any other of the defence forces the Army the Navy and The Airforce
@wbvp Dude chill out...I was a loadmaster on C-130's in the Air Force in Tucson Arizona and worked with PJ's all the time. Yes they are badass but so are rescue swimmers. Everyone does their part to protect this country so before you go and start bashing other services just be respectful and thankful. Who knows maybe one day you will need to be rescued by the coast guard...then what are you going to say? They didn't come fast enough? Be respectful

Man, the USCG does not get the credit it deserves. Those guys are freaking heroic, no doubt about it.
Stuff like this will make your toes curl--makes you want to run an extra mile or swim a few 100 more yards. Bravo Zulu guys--a job well done.
OO WOW SOME STORY
@Tillman787 Thanks for all of that.
Pj's SAR CG swimmers, all do the same job. All have died saving the lives of people the didn't know. They all deserve each others respect.
