FJ, I've watched you commit countless war crimes in Rimworld, but today was the limit. I can never unsee what you did. I feel like I've been scarred for life.
Yeah I just had a Terra start and the lack of oil makes it pretty difficult to keep things cool, you gotta beeline to the teleporter, but that also has its own problems in an early colony. if you want to make use out of pacu ranching, then feed them seeds. one pacu eats .3 of any seed per cycle. excess bog buckets, grubfruit, and even balm lily seeds if you're willing to make a chlorine chamber.
You should ranch the sweetles, their reproduction rates are really high so you can leave a tame sweetle ungroomed and it will still lay an egg before starving to death. Make a breeder ranch and drop all the eggs on a single tile and breed enough of them to keep your colony fed. Only thing to be aware of is they can't be confined in a small area or they will stop reproducing
Have not played with ranching them due to the limited food source, though once sugar rockets are implemented correctly I will have to give them a shot.
I just love how francis 30 minutes video is what others have in like 2-3 hours of footage. I mean i suppose it is actually 3+ hours uncompressed, but bless nontheless. Quick sour gas boiler episode 2? :thonk:
Careful with adding Pacu to cold water. It turns them into Gulpfish which turn polluted water into clean water. You've already got some in your tanks. They convert at a pretty slow rate, but if you actually want that polluted water you should segregate them into the brine tank.
I personnally found that all that wild sleet wheat gives all the food I need for my early to mid-game. Of course, it does mean exploring the ice biome in a less destructive way that you are used to.
I am trying to preserve the ice biomes for sleet wheet, the early one's provided a nice big jump in calories. It's one of the reasons I added the fridge.
Also in regards to “creating mass” like steel you can also “create oxygen” at a 3:1 ratio of polluted water. The way polluted water off gases in spaced out can be “leveraged” by building contraptions that help polluted water off gas at an efficient 3:1 rate. So for 1 kg of pw I get 3 kg of polluted oxygen. That’s a decent win in my book.
On one map, I had a giant ice biome literally surrounding the starting biome on the swamp world. I just dumped all the pwater into the frozen/ice biome to melt it and chill it. Handles germs in the water by chilling the water.

I have not done the numbers on sleet wheat yet but you look to only need one third of a seed per pacu per day. Imagine the populations you could support.
Similar to the glass, there's a starting POI near the surface that has a plastic ladder you can deconstruct - enough plastic to make a liquid pipe germ sensor. Toss in a couple of liquid storage tanks into a sealed room with some bleach stone, pump your germy water into the rooms, and set your germ sensor to a liquid shutoff to control the outflow until the germs have been removed by the offgassed chlorine. Early contaminated water cleaned and sterilized with just the materials you can access near the start. -Edit, I stand corrected. It's made of plastic but it isn't actually deoncstructable. However, just leaving the germy water in the tanks in a chlorine room will still remove the germs over time, so if you can segregate out your polluted water quickly enough into tanks, same effect, you just won't have the germ sensor to automate spitting out the water once it's sanitized.
@@herbsmelon985 Huh, you're right. They're plastic material but don't deconstruct. I stand corrected on that. i wouldnt deign to give pointers to our illutstrious content creator, but i would give thought to the following: the salt tank is very handily located near a ingeous/ obsidian containing biome. At early stages, there is the possibility to actually strip the insulation and let the passive heat exchange from the rock formations to bring brine/salt water above 0 Celsius (or a bit more) so it doesnt destroy the output of desalinators and sieves. also, this whole map is a whole lot more cold than the previous original game,so heat may not be a problem at first. (also a big thank you for the rodriguez, not only does it provide wth a lot more oxygen AND excess power through hydrogen,i also use its heat output to warm up my base up to a point and also melt ice biomes.i have deep aversion in digging through ice and halving its mass)
To fix the problem with the mud freezing the water i like to put a storage next to the sludge press. Temperature evens out between warm and cold mud. I manually prio 0 command it for a minute and go back to prio 1 so they don't run around and store like 3g of mud every time.
I honestly think the terra start is harder than swamp. Swamp has so much early oxygen, water, and cooling, while terra is surrounded by heat with limited non-germy algae for O2 and no way to make a SPOM without an aquatuner setup to cool the steam vents, the only source of water in the cluster.
The difference for terra is the reed fibre. You can have atmo suit docs up by cycle 60-100. That gives you access to oil, metal refinement, plastic, steam turbines and steel. With access to all of that taming a steam vent and cooling your base is pretty handy. In the swamp without reed fibre, no atmo suits, no oil etc. You are trapped on low end tech until you get to the third asteroid and get reed fibre. I would much prefer to start with atmo suits over just about any other start.
A cooling loop can be done with gold. You can cool a tuner with itself. Underwater loop radiant pipers through the water. It works perfectly. Later of course you build things the right way. But a tuner does work with gold just of cooling those Cool stream vents to start with. You're not cooling 200+ degree water. You're only cooling 95. Sunk in a pool of water so it doesn't flash to stream before you get it cooled down. Works perfectly and well forever if you really wanted to leave it that way.
You can feed pacus extra seeds now and get lots of polluted dirt. So endless supply of polluted dirt or dirt. Lots of food and racnching them is fun now.
btw you are the only youtuber that i dont have ad block on ( i know i dont tip you evn 1 cent ) sometimes it doesnt play ads on your vids i dont know if 1 of my extensions is doing it or youtube is messing up with you , do some tests if ou care in my opinion
Hi @Francis John, hope you are well! Question for you, do you know how to properly tame a sulfur geyser? Thanks in advance and appreciate all you work, keep it up!
I had the germs in my polluted water tank just disappear. Not sure how. The number of germs kept fluctuating up and down then a few cycles later they were all gone. I don't think the water was too cold either. Maybe the Pacu filter them out over time now. Either way...keep an eye on the germs.
I am kinda newby to oxigen not included and didnt see any oxygen gen at start, what was keeping all that massive zone oxigenated? I usually start going low on oxygen around cycle 4-5 and have to use alga to make more... But didnt see those buildings here. And i also always keep my base super compact, never thought expanding would be good, as oxegen just gets spread out 😅 why is it so good to just dig dig dig?
I would thing a free engineering skill would be a must within a digger. For 3 points you could have someone who could dig up anything on a new map. For zero points you have your engineer to build what you might need. So 3 morale for a darn good dupe for a new planet who could build a whole network for 3 morale.
Instead of supplying I go for suit wearing.. idk why but researching, suit wearing and another interest is not a bad idea. But I am going the two interest route hoping for dig+5 with mole hands lol
Do you know when they are adding nuclear? I’m not planning to commit to playing again until they add that lt. also what is their maximum skill level for like strength etc? I have some dupes with like 20 and they are reallly good can I get it to 100 and beyond and have super dupes in vannila?
In the base game 20 is the max level of a skill, though skills can add to it and so can special traits. For example a dupe with max athletics 20 and twinkletoes +3 and Exo suit training +2 can have 25 athletics.

You could cool even more with the excess chill. But the swamp has so many cold biomes in the first place, you don't really need to economize your cold too much.
well triple interest is not so good ( I try ), you better using double interest because they are better and you can specialize dups if needed, also supply is a must for all dups ( good for mechatronics and science / rocket ), also having a rancher early on is nice ( because by the time you get around getting critters you already have a good supply/rancher that are hard to come by )

What priority do you use with these generalised dupes?
btw you are the only youtuber that i dont have ad block on ( i know i dont tip you evn 1 cent ) sometimes it doesnt play ads on your vids i dont know if 1 of my extensions is doing it or youtube is messing up with you , do some tests if ou care in my opinion
Currently have 5 rovers stripmining forest planet to the core
Literally looking for this and it pops up as I go watch for something else.
Oh and first
Hi @Francis John, hope you are well!
Can’t wait for nuclear tech
You and me both.
Slugs produced those hydrogens
The music and the picture at the end of the video XD
I would thing a free engineering skill would be a must within a digger. For 3 points you could have someone who could dig up anything on a new map. For zero points you have your engineer to build what you might need. So 3 morale for a darn good dupe for a new planet who could build a whole network for 3 morale.
Instead of supplying I go for suit wearing.. idk why but researching, suit wearing and another interest is not a bad idea. But I am going the two interest route hoping for dig+5 with mole hands lol
I understood most of those words, separately. So much information :S
Fruit Loops? I see what u did there! ;)
24:35 Alright! Sexy Flanders in a ski-suit gets a call back. 26:17 . Nice.
cheers mate.
Do you know about carpet tiles bug? They are not melting at any temperature
Their has to be a use for that but I'm not sure what it is, maybe an insulation melter.
Number one priority should be to drop everything and cleanup/filter your water tanks lol.
And now I want to go re-watch Lexx. Damn you XD
ua-cam.com/video/wYoq6sovr8Y/v-deo.html
@@FrancisJohnYT oh dear. You made me remember a piece of my childhood memories, well hidden. Late night TV show of something I didn't understand and shockingly disgusting, but I watched as many I could. Now, after soo many years, the trigger was made: I actually found out, a channel here on YT has all the episodes in German (apparently licensed too), so I ended up watching till 3AM. Thank you for the triggered nostalgic feelings, I guess? 😁
Was looking forward to this!
GG. The Lexx? Now you just have to name a dupe Waste Of Skin. ;)
That show was so weird, it was before my time but a friend got me into it. Never seen anything like it before or since.
30:50 you dont have a loop with that food?
Rocket Pod Inception?!
Francis has a perfect lucky with 75% got what he want. All this increase the time for video recording.
May I request the gym workout be done via Montage? I swear we can all mentally play Eye of the Tiger as it happens...
Humming Eye of the Tiger will be mandatory or course :)
Whew that is too exploity to do that rocket deconstruct.
2.4 tons of steel!! it's insane. You could build everything out of steel, transport rails, mesh, airflow, buildings.
I came back to this video to see why I couldn't get that food storage trick to work, I love how compact it is. But when I make it exactly like you, it becomes unreachable, is this patched now?
plug slugs eat metal and change it to hydrogen thats where all the hydrogen came from
I tried this start with max diff. Was a tough call for food had to rush a huge bog bucket farm right off the bat.
is there volcano beside the salt water storage?
So its ok to go into the cold biome with out atmo suits?
The dupes can get Hypothermia but it's a non fatal condition and more of an annoyance. Cold biomes don't need atmo suits.
Hot biomes however will disable and eventually kill dupes.
Hhaahahahah, Leave it to Francis to find the Ultra Cheese parts of the expansion!
So, when you called it the Lexx, what I immediately thought of was this ua-cam.com/play/PLb6FwrPUfo75ZHG5BARHvT05pYuR6S6wG.html . I assume by the name you've seen the show, but if not, it's wonky, weird sci-fi: I think it might fit your bill.
Regarding the second exploit you showed on the rocket, congratulations, you found a friggin' TARDIS. It is, literally, bigger on the inside.
I'm really looking forward to this expansion, once it is officially launched.
Good episode.
It's most definitely the show your thinking of ua-cam.com/video/wYoq6sovr8Y/v-deo.html
as always thanks for the video :)
As always thanks for the thanks :)
Why not use the rust for decontamination?
Gonna be cooling that rodriguez's oxygen and hydrogen with the cool water before consuming it to keep the base and the generators nice and cool? :)
You could cool even more with the excess chill. But the swamp has so many cold biomes in the first place, you don't really need to economize your cold too much.
hey Francis. Did u know after ur dupes are cried in their atmo suites and then u unequip it you can harvest their tears! XD
Oh god no, I'm not going to start harvesting them. I'm still trying to recover my reputation from the peace crimes hotel.
The infinite food storage is very unrealistic - as the block is sealed. I love everything you do except this! But keep playing your way !
well triple interest is not so good ( I try ), you better using double interest because they are better and you can specialize dups if needed, also supply is a must for all dups ( good for mechatronics and science / rocket ), also having a rancher early on is nice ( because by the time you get around getting critters you already have a good supply/rancher that are hard to come by )
Why no plug slugs? They give you 1600W when tamed. Very good early on before getting solar.
John! There is a new cluster in oxygen nor included! try to make a tutorial on it!
Once DPS series is finished, I am dying to get back to ONI. I gave my word to finish DSP first and every update for ONI is just more fun to look out for when I get back.
@@FrancisJohnYT Ok
I'm really curious what your thought process was on choosing to start swamp over Terra. Been juggling the two starts mentally debating logistics of the geysers and shipping for what is better end game/petrol boiling (I like swamp but enough water for the oil geysers is my concern).
Just wondering if you had anything that was reason enough to choose one over the other?
why no power slugs?
What if germs actually mattered again? What an interesting biome this would be.
