Sorry we missed the question, apologies. Regarding shoes as a beginner, spend as little as possible and just wear something light, comfy and flexible that stays on your feet well - not mega-grippy and not too slippy. Just be comfy and enjoy as you start out. When you really know you enjoy it and dance more often in the longer term then we'd recommend visiting a dance shoe shop to try on some comfy styles for you - possible suede or supple leather soles but a bits depends on the floors you usually dance on. Don't get a mega high heel - the heel height has to be worked up to to develop the ankles properly and a lower heel can be much more comfy early on.... All the best with enjoying the beginnings of learning, it is a wonderful thing to try.
It is an unconscious choice to be honest. We have taught male and female dancers both roles and for us it is a role, not a gender. The terminology seems to work well for us but we're always looking to improve. Glad you like it though, and thank you for saying so.
These are the best instructions for beginners, thanks for taking the time to share, you are the best. thanks again.

I love your simple , elegant Argentine tango demo w/ all the angle!
Thank you for explaining by saying which foot to use! It is so easy to get feet tangled up causing balance to disappear! Also counting hellos too.

I love how you use leader and follower, is that a conscious choice to be more inclusive than with man & woman?
