    Wow how things have changed since I left. I lived up in Petoskey for many years. I graduated from Petoskey High. I moved away to Ohio in 04'. Lots of great memories up there. Thanks.

    We drove the Tunnel of Trees at night (no traffic/high beams). I played the Astroid Field Run from Empire Strikes Back at full volume. My wife was screaming so I went faster(NO traffic). We were all laughing at the end!

    I drove this road literally the same week you did. My wife and I did a circle tour around Lake Michigan and someone at a hotel back in Holland Michigan suggested we do this. Great advice. :)

    The Petoskey stone is from an ancient coral reef in a shallow sea located in this area, 350 million years ago. The reef was scraped up by the various glaciers and deposited on the shoreline and interior areas of northern Michigan.

    Chris, you are an artist and this Tunnel of Tree post proves it. You always tell a story, whether it is the beauty of Charlevoix and Petosky or the reality of parts of Detroit. You help recreate memories of places that some of us may never have a chance to see again. I will definitely revisit this post again. Would love to see you capture a short of Indian River and the majesty of that area, too. Also of Flint, where I grew up a long time ago (save your Detroit soundtrack lol). If you need to know some hot spots to hit if you do make one of Flint, let me know. Everyone should subscribe here, so very interesting!

    Also recommend the tunnel of trees along US 41 south of Copper Harbor MI. Then M-26 westbound is a scenic drive along Lake Superior

    I really appreciate your content Chris! A few Summers ago, during 4th of July weekend I stayed in a very small rental chalet with dedicated lakefront within the "Tunnel of Trees" main area. While Harbor Springs is even more crowded on weekends in Summer, there is much less traffic in the Tunnel. I guess most people prefer to see the Fall Color when they visit - but I prefer to see less traffic & more scenic, LOL. I'd do this trip again in a heartbeat.

    Notice the clouds. Wall to wall for weeks on end in the fall. Typical Michigan. Detroit (as well as Cleveland & Buffalo), for example, have more cloudy days per year than Seattle or Portland OR.

    This looks fun on a motorcycle. I don't like how there's so much traffic + the narrow road. Still looks pretty fun tho.

    • @ChrisHarden
      @ChrisHarden  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah. You could probably guess that the traffic was from everyone (like me) thinking that there would’ve been peak fall colors that weekend.
      Not sure where you’re from but there are plenty of other areas in Michigan with less traffic and are still great for fall colors. The Petoskey area will always be crowded on the weekends.

    date says Oct 3 here. I sse lots of green still. We just returned yesterday and it was bright oranges and yellows. Inland most of the trees have dropped, but along this coastline M19 the colors are vivid and holding on. I am sure they will all have fallen by next week.

    Why do you tailgate? I notice you're not the only one. Tailgating is stupid as for one there is no benefit, two, it's dangerous and three, it slows down traffic in general. It's pointless and dangerous but most drivers do it anyway. At 32:00 minutes you're hitting your brakes as you go off to the side. Why on Earth follow that close ? We used to go up there frequently back in the 90's and 2000's. I never once saw that many cars on the road. We used to stay at a place called Krude Kraft Lodge. The owners sold it and it's now a religious retreat I believe. It was beautiful. It was right at Wormwood road not too far north of Goodhart. The store at Goodhart, (I hope it's still there), was wonderful. There is a festival called Blissfest every year just east of Cross Village that was also wonderful. I couldn't believe there was a little traffic jam at Robinson road, (where the Goodhart store is). Never saw that before. The lodge I mentioned earlier is the place called Blisswood that you passed shortly after Robinson road. Thanks for the memories! I hope you were able to have a good meal at Leg's Inn. What surprised me the most was the number of people and cars. Back when we went up there there was never anything approaching those numbers even in mid summer. Kinda sad.
