Hi Chris. Tom here from the U.S.A., NO3NO. Just to let you know I purchased a HD-1 based on what you primarily and others have said. I hope that I can remember all the command sequences that this radio and my D-74 require. I enjoy mostly all of your videos. I hope that you keep on making them. Say Hello to Chris Barnatt for me. Another very good source of videos, primarily on the Raspberry Pi. Cheers.
Thanks for the review. I just received the 868 and thus far am very pleased with it. The battery died so I thought I would watch a few youtube videos while I wait for it to replenish. 73 - Jeff VE6DV
This is a super radio for the price. But for a little bit more you can get the 878 and that is my current recommendation. If you want to use in the car get the 878+ your speaker and microphone will goes through the car stereo Bluetooth. And don’t forget this will work well on FM repeaters as well. Your voice will go through the car stereo microphone and you will hear everybody on FM and dmr through the car stereo. You will get a tiny transmit button which you can strap to the gearstick
Strange. The 380 Is a super hetradine and a very good receiver. And it's only one band so i'm not surprised that is very good. Any tone is direct conversion. It is good on analog But I wouldn't say it's the best receiver out there. However I agree with you. It is very, very good on digital
Have mixed feelings for this radio.... very well designed , good battery, good sound, good reception,.... in the other side so frustated with the radio freezing even so that if you turn the radio off the screen remains lid (and frozzen), sometimes even after removing and putting again the batterry does not help and have to reset losses the codeplug... have done firmware update, reseting, and so and so.... anybody with the same frustation??
Sergio Cavazos This is an old video. Get the latest firmware and software which must be used together and remove your old software first and back up your code plug. Get it from Anytone.de
If I have the 868 in scan mode and it stops on a active channel, if I want to talk then I need to stop the scan function. The radio will default to the first channel, I need to then use the dial to select the active channel. If I press transmit on the active channel, is there a way for the radio to remain on the active channel without going back to the first channel? I am on firmware ver 2.36 and hardware ver 1.10.
Good summary Chris. Just out of curiosity, are you intending on putting up any videos of the Analogue performance and also how does it compare in general to other HTs like the Ailunce HD1? 73 2M0XDE
Hi Danny. Thanks for putting the comment in. This is a video I will be considering doing analogue 868 vs HD1 they are both direct conversion and not superheterodyne
Garry T Yes thank you for mentioning this. I have since bought a 878 and I am aware of this but handy for other people to know. I have got an 878 review coming out in the next day or so!
I have this radio the AnyTone 868. Good review. Personally I would rather use a hot spot than tie up a repeater. Since getting the Jumbo spot and the Commander II, I only use them to talk to others on DMR. And I can use my cell phone to connect the radio to the hot spot and talk from anywhere without having to upload the repeaters in other locations. Simple. I wonder if there is a way to get the 878 software onto the 868 to make it act like an 878.
Thanks for the comment. The 868 has a little less memory than the 878. So it is incredibly similar hardware just with restrictions. They could easily implement the display colour change. If they removed the memory reserved for recording function. But that won't happen because they want you to buy the 878.
Hi Chris cracking video. Had my 868 for three days I was at first completely baffled I am not as baffled now that is learnt a lot but not sure how to make my first contact. Any chance you could do a video called first contact on a 868 just for this numpty G1SCY Fred
Did you ever review the analog receive of the 868. I'm looking at buying 20 of these for my fire department. We primarily use Analog VHF for both 2 tone paging and communication. Trying to see if this would be a problem. Thanks for the video I look forward to your response.
@@digitalanaloguehamradio so it seems like a bug. Or maybe it only works in direct QSO? That I haven't tried. I've emailed AnyTone with this issue already, but no reply so far. Will give them few more days before my next contact with them.
It will receive for 446 no problem. But to keep things legal it will not transmit on there. Although you could probably rollback the firmware to transmit and lose lots of handy features.
@@digitalanaloguehamradio Thanks for getting back to me, very good radio which I'm thinking of getting along with the new Shark RF Open Spot 3. Will subscribe to your channel, 73's
Noticed you had the volume all the way up, but the radio was not very loud. That could be a problem for me as I would like to be able to turn it up or down and have it at a comfortable volume.
@@digitalanaloguehamradio Sorry , the Problem it seems to be fixed by the SysOp from the Repeater. He restart the Repeater, and now it works. The Monitor Settings in my Case is Digital Monitor /Switch / Double to Hear TS1 and TS2 at the same Time. Thanks for your Idea
@@digitalanaloguehamradio cheers, yea got a bit of more used to it now think I was just picking up poor signal channels I'm not a ham just using as a scanner and must say it's brilliant
I don't think so although it can can listen to any DMR type communication as long as it is not encrypted. It picks up virtually everything my Whistler scanner does

Just bought one for delivery tomorrow. Hope i made the right choice.

Hey, thanks for watching. It's a bit of an old video, but most things are the same. You have purchased a great radio enjoy
Mine arives tomorrow, saved some money instead of 878 Bluetooth I hope I didn’t made a big mistake.Like your videos thanx
Really good video. Looking to maybe get one to learn and this has helped me decide.

Mine 2018 has been deaf on analog compared to other radios, TYT 380,Alinco dual band . DMR is excellent however. Tried different antennas as well

The FM receiver is is direct conversion. Which is not as good as superheterodyne. But it's pretty good. I think you will be reasonably impressed.
Do you know if I can simplify the operation of the radio? I would like to get it down to the selector knob and one PTT button for easy operation.
Does the record option work for you? On my D868UV it doesn't. It only records 1-2 seconds of a transmission.
Excellent question something I have never tried. I recorded a 30 second clip but only one second played

It is legal to use in America. I don’t Have one anymore, although I have done loads of videos on it in the past, take a look back

I had it like that so it was not too loud it's called indoor volume setting.
Good review.
I have one of these, but it doesn't have the volume bar on screen like I've seen on all the others?
There is a setting in the computer software for this. I am not by the computer at the moment but I know this as a fact.

You can turn it on or off only in the software
Which do you prefer, the Ailunce HD1 or Anytone 868
868 although 878 if you can afford one. Hd1 is falling behind.
The new firmware (2020) gives you the black background screen.
Yes good info Barry this is an old video. Thanks for watching
