Couldn’t really call it a Byrds album though can you. These are serious Nashville session musicians. I agree though this is one of the greatest country (Americana) records ever made. Gram was off the chart talented but a spoiled.
@@johnarnold8941 Gram Parsons was a one on a kind who left a major influence on no matter he wrote & played. He also influenced and gave a start to a countless list of musicians I have been listening to since day one. Yes, Gram Parsons was a M Genius
Chris Hillman is the real deal, perfect voice for this music. Saw him do this, in the Sweetheart tour with him, McGuinn and Marty Stuart a few yrs ago. Just about choked me up a few times.
True music. True American spirit. True Bluegrass tinged folk-rock. And Gram Parsons leads us into that place. These fellas brought the real American sounds back home again. And bless us all . All over the world. ♥ "Americana" it would be called today.
I am not crying or laughing to this album.....I just got something in my eye, aye? The US of A certainly pumps out art, be it audio, written, movie, or any format. And they hit the bullseye regularly. Like it or not, western culture is full of U.S. influences. Personally, i'm okay with it. And if you are not, then you're gonna love a cccp, Yen based new world order..... Because i'm a truck store driving man.........
My husband addressed his letters to me as The Sweetheart of the Rodeo. I love this music for its simplicity , its sound an all the memories it holds for me. I saw Chris Hillman in concert once. he was superb.
I am a pilgrim and a stranger Traveling through this wearisome land I've got a home in that yonder city, good Lord And it's not, not made by hand I've got a mother, sister and a brother Who have gone this way before I am determined to go and see them, good Lord For they're on that other shore I'm goin' down to the river of Jordan Just to bathe my wearisome soul If I can just touch the hem of his garment, good Lord Then I know he'd take me home I am a pilgrim and a stranger Traveling through this wearisome land I've got a home in that yonder city, good Lord And it's not, not made by hand
The Byrds with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Roger McGuinn and sometimes Young were a top Country Western group also. David Crosby had a most beautiful voice.
I adopted an Aussie Shepard in Colorado in 1971, named her Belue 'cuse she was spot of grey, black white and brown.smartest wonrking dogs. She was only with me 2 years, but I mourned her. Now 2015, my daughter brought over an Aussie pup, she is Lulu Blue and smart as a whip
Trad. arr. by Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman. Chris Hillman (vocal), John Hartford (fiddle), Roy Husky (double bass), Roger McGuinn (banjo), Chris Hillman (acoustic guitar).

Wasn't keen on this album at first, but it's grown on me. Still not fussed about 'Life in prison', but any album that contains 'Hickory wind' sung by Gram Parsons has a free pass for me anyway. With hindsight, the rest of the album's not too bad.
Sweetest and probably the best Country-Rock album ever recorded by any group. Belongs to the best albums the Byrds released during their career.

Gram Parson made it what it is. Yes, he was a troubled individual but he was a musical genius.
@@joestephan1111 The word genius is tossed around too lightly. He was really talented and loved country a lot, and really young.

This is actually an old (from the 20s) gospel song. It’s nice to hear this version, however.
Yeah it really is something special.. I’ve always loved this Recording, Gram was a True disciple 🙏🇺🇸🎸⭐️🌞
Amazing. Still moves me as much as when I first heard it as a 16 year old in 68. Makes me tear up now.

straight from the soul of America!
Great version of this song.
50 years and still as good as day #1
50 years!?
This is true, whether you like the album or not.

This song shares a lot of common theming with another favorite of mine, Wayfaring Stranger.

Simplesmente divina 🧡
The byrds é outro nível 🔥
Fit perfectly into a hot summer in Austin.
And that is the late, great, Gram Parsons on vocal.
Just agreed, but listening closer maybe those saying it's Chris Hillman are right.
Rolling stone 500 greatest albums brought me here
Two albums done by Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman in there (at one time GP had three).
