The 80s & 90s Scudetto was the toughest league ever, with the best players and most critically. Had the best defenders from around the world. It was a highly defensive, low-scoring league, and legends like Platini, Maradona, Van Basten, and Ronaldo 9 mastered it.
There's absolutely no chance Pelé, Cristiano Ronaldo, or Lionel Messi would have scored over 600/700 domestic league goals in the 80s or 90s Scudetto. No chance at all! 🙅‍♂️
I rank Maradona & Ronaldo 9 as the greatest domestic league players because of the challenges they faced every week across those 80s, 90s, scudetto leagues, and how they mastered them.
Saying Pelé is overrated is just a joke. He's the most complete player ever. His heading, dribbling, passing, and free kicks (using every part of the boot-instep, outstep, boot front) were unmatched. Most free kick takers like Zico, Platini, Maradona, Zidane, Dinho, and Messi use the instep. Pelé's also had penalties, tackling, and was world-class with both feet: passing, dribbling, shooting, and pioneering unbelievable freestyle skills. He played one-two wall passes off defenders' shins & chest! No player has done that-not even Maradona & Dinho!
Watch my comp on him to see it all. ua-cam.com/video/6hX5VlO8NNI/v-deo.htmlsi=LLvaLlxU6hxSG4LM
The lad was fully loaded! 🐐⚽️🔥

In 1962 pele was injured in the second match and lost the rest of world cup. In 1966 pele was also injured and lost the rest of world cup (Brasil also was omitted). In 1970 pele had passed his prime because he was at the end of his career. In 1958 pele was too young but he was also then great. (16 years old). His prime in world cup was 1962 and 1966 that was unfortunately injured. But also he scored goals in 1962 and 1966. In 1962 he scored one goal with dribbling 4 players and also made one pass ended to the goal. You should notice these facts.
Pele in my opinion is the greatest.

If youre looking for a player to react to, i think you should check out Raul Jimenez. His time at wolves showed us how pure of a goalscorer he was, never needed to do anything too fancy.

If the defending was so bad .. how come everyone else at that time didn’t score 1000 goals?

If defending was bad then the average goals should be also much higher than today.
In Peles time it was around 3, today its around 2,7.
Not much difference for 60 years between.
The guys who say modern defender r better just like to overlook These facts.

Pelé did indeed test himself against the best in the world - four World Cups, winning three in the process.
He furthermore played an untold number of friendlies against club teams from the best of Europe.
Any "GOAT" conversation must be taken in context in order to be taken seriously. Pelé was not only a brilliant goal scorer and playmaker. He was also a pioneer in ways that no player was before or since.
    Examples:
    - tricks and techniques. Without Pelé, there is no inspiration for Ronaldinho, or Maradona, or Zidane, or Messi.
    - the star footballer as a global icon that transcends the sport. Without Satellite television, the 24 hour news cycle, the internet, social media, or streaming, he was until himself the most recognizable brand in the world. More people knew and recognized his name and likeness than knew McDonald's, Disney, or Coca Cola. When he arrived in a country, wars literally ceased in order for matches in which he was playing to go on without incident. Imagine if Messi arrived in Crimea, and the Russians and Ukrainians stopped shooting each other in order for Inter Miami to play a friendly against Shakhtar or Zenit. That was the power of Pelé's presence.
    - product placement in sports and entertainment. In 1970, he was contracted to wear Puma boots. In the first globally televised World Cup, he and Puma executives knew all cameras would be upon him, frequently in tight closeup shots. Several times during the tournament, he made a show of retying his boot laces, revealing the Puma logo. Sales of Puma boots and sportswear skyrocket world-wide.
Again - there was no sophisticated global hype machine. It was all him. As for his career, the numbers say it all. The goals, the trophies, the titles, and a twenty year career, playing on terrible pitches, with antiquated gear/kit, sustained by mid-20th Century medicine and training techniques.
If he had been born 45 years later, they would have had to rename the sport. If you weren't there to see it, you just don't know.

So, if Pele couldn't do the same with today's defenders, what if we also trained the imaginary Pele with today's knowledge and talent, what would happen?

Video never said he couldn’t do it against modern defenders, just highlighted the fact it likely he could get injured more frequently due to how reckless modern defending is!

    • @Dacio1202

@@BANGSOFinnaBlow reckless modern defending? todays defender r just athletic for the sake of speed, they r not allowed to Touch attacker. Even a body Check is considered nowadays a foul. Messi is able to run past 5 defender, just watching. While Pele lied each few metres on the ground.
I recommend u to watch some foul compilations from Pele. Todayd defending would be a Kids birthday for him.
Today its more tactical, but in Peles time it was brutal for attacker.
Average goal per match r the same if u compare today and past era.
U can only consider one defending era better than the other if the average goals were less. If many goals get scored, defending is Bad.

@@BANGSOFinnaBlow bro I'm not saying that the video says it or you say it, it's the comment that is heard, "Pele couldn't handle today's defenders" and I think if Pele trained in our time he would possibly be the best without anyone doubting it, but we will never know
