even though it is the basic z21 it's still quite powerful, and I have also learned that I could use I trains to automate the z21 but that will have to wait till I get some point motors controlled by the dcc. This will be another project for my main layout! :) All the best Tony
Hi Nick, I was lead to believe that voltage could be changed on the Black Z21 but not on the white z21 hence showing the diode ladder but as you say they may have updated it now and the voltage may now change through the app. I will give it a try. All the best Tony
I think I must check also, I have the black Z21 on my layout in the shed, but use a white z21 start for indoors when loco testing and for maintenance work, but haven't used it for a while.
Hi Tony, Welcome to the z21 fraternity 😎 I have been using one for five years now and have been very impressed. Roco have continuously updated and expanded the system so it is comforting to know you are not investing in something that won’t have longevity 🤞🏻 Recently I have connected mine to ITrain on my Laptop and am loving the experience 😍 Maybe you could download the trial version and see if offers a neater solution than trying to get the Z21 app to work on the laptop 🤔 Great show as always and looking forward to seeing how you progress with the z21 🧐 Very best wishes from County Wicklow ☘️
Hi Paul, I have managed to get the app working on a laptop which will be in part 2, but my long term plans are to get the points controlled on my main layout and I will certainly be looking into Itrain as another avenue for the z21 but for now I want to get Swade's pond finished and try to get to grips with the z21 LOL! great advice though! All the best Tony.
Great video thanks for sharing .. Although you have to activate your Z21 Start on a Pc don’t you ? If you don’t then the DCC works but just not the important thing like the throttle / slider !?
Yes the z21 needs a code to unlock it which I believe you do through the maintenance tool. Mine was already unlocked so I couldn't show this in the video. All the best Tony
You made me laugh Tony, you fumbled along. I wouldn't have even been able to work out how to switch it on let alone get it working and program a train. It is not the system I am going for to be honest, far too complicated for my liking. No tablet, mobile or PC operation for me, straight forward NCE Powercab which to be honest I am hoping will be easy to operate just the trains, nothing else. But I can understand why you like it and looks like a really good system. Regards Chris
The NCE is a good system and my Zimo handset is very similar, but I wanted to try a different approach which will also change my points easier than putting in numbers for each individual point. But it's all good fun :) Only time will tell LOL! All the best Tony
Excellent demonstration :) Waiting for part 2 :)
Hi Joe Part 2 is already published, All the best Tony
@@TheHeritageLine Yes, installed bluestack too :) Just for fun!!
Hi Tony, excellent video mate, I have the Z21 black, Great piece of kit, I’m really looking forward to getting to grips with it properly 👍
I am still getting to grips with it but the z21 certainly is nice to use and opens up so many more options. All the best Tony
Thanks, look forward to the next one, and the hooking it up to a pc.

The voltage output of the Z21 can be adjusted in the App. No need for a diode ladder.
