Super nice stereo---the stands (when you get them) will make a big difference with the speakers. I've purchased from Audio Connection in the past and they were awesome---great guys to work with!
Exciting! I ended up getting a modern stereo shelf, but I really would have liked one of those stereo cabinets that were common in the 90s. I did go retro on the CD player, though, a vintage Sony from around 1990. I just love the stereo look of that era.

NAD stands for New Acoustic Dimension. They are a very good audio company that was founded in 1972 and they have produced countless award winning products ever since. The company are known for the value and sound quality of their products.
Those are some nice components you picked out, Brendon. NAD is top-line stuff. I now have a Rega turntable, which is my newest addition. It was to replace my old L&G turntable, where the bearing finally gave out on the platter, which was solid aluminum. I have an 80's vintage Realistic receiver/amplifier and my old JVC double tape deck, plus a pair of Philips speakers. I play my CDs through my other system, that is hooked up to my television set-up. It has a powerful Yamaha power amp and a pair of Db speakers, which sound wonderful. And yes, that Trooper album is a "best-of" compilation. They were a big popular band from the west coast, back in the day, with numerous hits.
I’m looking forward to watching this Brendon. I’ve been using them for over 20 years. Jon Rotan is such a great guy and so knowledgeable. Even though I’m probably the poorest customer he treats me like anyone else.
Congrats on picking up a new seperates system Brendon, i hope you heard the benefits over your previous set-up. The only thing missing are speaker stands which, even if you listen sitting on the floor, the speaker should be at ear level for the best listening experience & space them so they are equal distance apart & angled inward towards your good self. Your speakers also appear to have the option to biwire if you so choose. I tried it many years back & whilst the benefit isn't massive, it did wonders for my listening enjoyment. Apologies for mentioning all that, we are all different & our enjoyment from music & our different set-ups varies from person to person. The only thing i would say is having speakers on the floor will hamper the audio giving it a more muffled sound which will remove clarity. Congrats once again on your new gear, i hope you get many years of audio pleasure with it & enjoy going back into your collection & hearing details you may have missed with your old set-up.
Very nice system!! Will be interesting to hear your thoughts. I know with speakers, often have to wait for a while before getting the true sound from them I have the same denon as yourself but I upgraded the speakers to klipsch
Nice! I have the NAD C538 CD player. It has a great sound. The buttons on mine are a bit touchy. I do a quick press. If you hold the button too long it can freeze the player. If that happens to you, you must unplug the CD player to reset it. I just had to practice to get it right. Hopefully your model has updated firmware. I use mine every day!
Those are very revealing speakers for a simple set up. Stands for those speakers would maximize the sound, and also i would create space between the speakers to get better stereo imaging.
Wonderful news! Congrats on your new system. Hope you enjoy many many hours of listening. Great to see old style audio shops still exist. As you know in NYC - pretty much nonexistent and those that do are by appointment. Oh, owners/staff look down their noses at customers.
@silvershield2342 I am very much surprised to know from you that these kind of all fashioned audio shops are almost non existence even in NYC in USA! As a man living in South Asia, we experience this kind of problem here since a couple of decades. At this moment Yamaha is the only audio dealer operating here.
Hey Brendon, congrats on the new equipment. Like many have said, NAD makes good equipment for a good price. You are now starting your journey to becoming an audiophile. Get the speakers off the floor and on stands. You can then fool around with their placement. Placing them too close to the backwall will give you more bass but it will sound bloated. Bringing them out will get rid of the bloat and produce more detail and improve their soundstage. Very happy for you! Enjoy!
To go audiophile, he'd need to swap out all the components he just bought. The only thing you actually need is active studio monitors - no need to think about amplifiers. I'm on a $35K system.
Excellent! Personally I do need my 5 cd player, I like to pick up 4 or 5 cd's and have my afternoon set up. They're getting hard to come by at a reasonable price, but I purchased 2 back in the day and found one in a second hand store too, so I should be fine for a few years... Enjoy! Cheers.
The Trooper album is a compilation which I bought in 1980 on import in the UK. I sold a number of records in 1988 due to space. I dont regret selling most if them, but wish I had kept that one. They are not easy to get now. The Boys In The Bright White Sports Car is a great track and a great title.
Cool deal. I've got Sony component system & still works great after decades. Turntable, music cassette player, receiver, DAT player & speakers. I mostly listen 2 AM radio & play vinyl records
I think they make specialty speaker "stands" that will just lift the speakers off the rug. For as many cds as you have, you'd probably enjoy a DJ-type cd player with 2 or more players and then you can really mix it up. Enjoy!
@@BrendonSnyder A humble request to you;, it will be very much appreciative if you can reply the other commentors here, who herein wrote some very important views and details regarding your new audio system. Thank you!!
Hi, great interesting video, your old denon system is really good as it's small you can have in bedroom or another room. Great set up what you bought hope your are pleased with it. Regards mark
@@pedrofernandez8729not crucial, depends on speakers, the Fynes have good dispersion, he needs to sit back away from them. 250mm height stands is what would suit him. A joke to try and sell him $250 dollar stands with those budget NAD electronics, Norstone 250mm stands cost £79 in UK and are excellent and beautiful.
That guy did you right on everything IMHO. I’m big into audio myself, and have a huge collection of gear. I’m the type that likes to learn everything about whatever it is I’m into. And because I’m frugal. I do it all myself. No dealers, because they cost more. And I really want to know how everything works myself anyways. He made you cables exactly the way I do it myself. He sold you great components too. You really couldn’t have done any better on your own, or anywhere else. That amp is about the only class AB amp (all others are class D) that NAD still makes, and is considered by many to be a reference for that level of gear. Including The Audiophiliac himself. Steve Guttenburg. Who is one of the best known reviewers of HiFi gear in UA-cam. The “BEE” in the name stands for Bjørn Erik Edvardsen. He’s the engineer that designed the unique design that NAD uses. AKA “Powerdrive”. This means that although your amp is only rated for 40 watts RMS. It has much more headroom than other amps that don’t have that. So it will peak at 100 watts. Where as a regular 40 watt amp might peak at 50 watts, or so. And will sound like a more powerful amp to you, because it basically is. Your speakers are from Fyne, and that company was started by engineers from Tannoy a few years ago. Which I’m 99% sure is the oldest loud speaker company that’s still in business. They make some Uber high end stuff too. And also have a unique design to them. They’re famous for their Dual Concentric Compression Technology. Which is a fancy way of saying coaxial drivers that have a compression/horn type tweeter in the middle of the woofer. And even their vintage stuff goes for big dollars. And it’s still considered by many to be top notch, even when compared to current technology. And Fyne itself has gotten many rave reviews, and also makes some really high end speakers themselves. So they should be a decent, if not great match for the amp. And while I don’t know much about your CD player. I’m sure it’s a good sounding one. And since you mentioned it was light. I recommend trying to put some weight on it. To get rid of any resonances caused by the thin metal, and the spinning platter. A brick, and a bowl of sand/lead shot. That sort of thing. Just not too heavy. Think 5 pounds, or so. And the steamer you bought. Is actually like the 3rd iteration on that unit. And probably the best selling streamer today. The great part of that is the software, and the performance per dollar. It’s designed for a music lover like yourself, and not for Uber transparency. Or for serious HiFi either. IOW it’s not a clinical sounding piece. And sounds really good to the majority of people. As for the stands. I would be careful on that one. You say you listen on the floor. If that’s so. You don’t want them too high either. You’ve got bear in mind that speakers usually gain bass when near any boundary (floor, wall, ceiling). So while getting them up, and out in the room will make them sound clearer, and more open. It will also reduce what little bass you have with them. Also speakers are designed to be listened to at ear level. Not above, nor below. So here’s my recommendation. Start by figuring out where you want them placed. And set up something to get them there. Using whatever you can. A stack of books maybe? Or CD cases even. Just temporarily, to listen. Then go ahead and experiment with them. Moving them, up, down, left, right, and toeing them in/out will all change the sound. Find the best sound you can. Then go get whatever will get them there. But remember that even a wide stand will make the bass stronger, as it will act as a boundary. So find something with a bass about get same dimensions as the bottom/top of the speakers. And what’s below that base shouldn’t be too big either. Think normal speaker stand type shape. And just so you’re aware. There is a future upgrade path in the form of a standalone DAC (digital to analog converter). They make some in your price range that will vastly improve the sound of both the CD player (assuming it has a digital output), and your streamer. Look up “Topping E70 Velvet” to get an idea of a nice one in your range. Either way. You’ve done great. That guy was great that you bought it from. And you should get years of enjoyment from your investment. Enjoy the music. ✌️
Thanks for your very detailed and informative explanation as well as tips for my audio system. I appreciate you sharing your wealth of audio equipment knowledge with me!
@@BrendonSnyder You don't need to put any weight on the CD player. The CD player is digital. The DA converter will have no influence on this type of snake-oil tip. 😂
Good picks on the gear! NAD and Bluesound are both Canadian 🇨🇦 company’s. And are great products. I’m not to educated on those Fyne speakers but I’m sure they are great! Enjoy! 🔈👍🏻
Having new hifi is such a treat it takes me back, since the 70s when I bought my first technics system with mission speakers, technology has move on since then but I still have a cd player that also plays flac music files via a usb slot in it, my set up is marantz cd6007usb, marantz 6007 amp rega p3 turntable & bowers & wilkins 607 s2 anniversary speakers & at my age retiring in 6 months probably my last system, you are on your way to keep building, enjoy.
Audio stores and record stores are still my favorite places to visit since I was a teenager. And love Stephen Ross - Midnight Drive album from Shrapnel Records.
Cool system, Brendon. So envious of your purchase. Haven't found the time to find a nice stereo system for my music. I'd rather buy locally via a small local business instead of through a major store chain in a larger city. The owner took great care of wrapping up your speakers, and that's the beauty of buying from a privately owned shop versus the major store chains. Looks like he gave you a great deal on everything, too. I need to find a place like this in my neck of the woods. I own Trooper's Hot Shots on CD. Good compilation, but the band should have waited to put it out after 1979's Flying Colours which features their biggest local/native hit to date "Janine" (which was not a hit here in the States.) They didn't do that, though. Hot Shots charted and sold very well in the band's native Canada. One of the biggest selling Greatest Hits/Best Of compilation albums of all time in Canada. I think it has sold close to 3M copies to date.
You could make a couple of dual purpose boxes to place under the speakers that could be used to store some vinyl LPs aswell as bringing the tweeters up to ear level. Not perhaps quite as good as some dedicated stands, but still pretty good if rigid enough.
You did great Brendon. One piece of advice is to take the speakers off the floor and take the time to position them in the room. Makes a huge difference. Salamander makes terrific audio shelving if you wanna upgrade that. You can literally spend a million dollars at audio connection or like you and I did, find the right parings on your budget and still find a great sound. Cheers brother!
Brendon...Please don't take this the wrong way. The FYNE speakers paired with the NAD components will sound wonderful....great pairing of components. If you really want to experience your new system at its "FYNEST", you need to get the speakers off the floor and on a good pair of solid stands. The sound will open up tremendously and fill that wonderful listening room you have.
I saw your LG DVD player and thought why not use that for CD's. I use my Sony DVD player as it plays SACD's and sounds great. I like those speakers they look sweet.
You can't go wrong with NAD gear, good performance for sensible money I think sums them up. I've owned some of their gear in the past and the 3150 integrated amplifier was the one I liked the most, I instantly regretted selling that because my "upgrade" was disappointing, made me realise just how good the 3150 was. Regarding small bookshelf loudspeakers, in my opinion you need them positioned at ear level for the best results, but of course because of their size they can go anywhere. I'm quite sure you'll enjoy that system, and I suspect that you'll find yourself using the streamer more than you thought you would. Nice video, thank you.
Awesome. I never thought of Flesh And Blood as being a audiophile type recording but I will definitely give it another listen. It is a great album. Congrats on the new system.
Good luck with that setup. I have no luck with cd players. There's two Technics and one Tascam cd A580 in my basement that skip. And I returned an Onkyo and another brand before getting a Yamaha model that hasn't given me any problems yet. Companies just don't make things like they used to, be we seem to be saying that about everything!
No they sure don’t! That has been my issue too. Past units have stopped working after 8 months to a year. I got tired of buying new systems yearly. Even with this new component system the longest warranty I could get was 2 years. That said, if the CD player breaks I don’t have to replace the whole thing like before with a shelf system. And hopefully NAD is higher quality and better made to last a bit longer.
See my comment above. I also have a good old Yamaha 20x Disc player. So far no problems, not sure how old it is, had it awhile. Only the hatch opening door is faulty (compacted rubber pads most likely), but i get around it. Most guys here would probably kill for this unit, i never gave it much thought. Rare?
Instead of buying a dedicated speaker stands, consider buying inexpensive end tables off of Amazon. I got a pair and the are the perfect height. Also, I have a bottom shelve on each to put whatever I want on them.
Thought I'd watch the video, not knowing what you'd walk out with. Turns out I also have the F500's that I purchased as store demos locally, and a Node and PowerNode. What really caught my attention was the Rampage in the background. Had two of them and two Invaders years ago. Cantrell!!
@@BrendonSnyder I noticed when I first started listening with it. It seemed kinda weak in the sound. After a month or two it got in its “element”. And really took off. Extremely happy with it
@@dinkjs Break-in is a myth. What people experience is slightly repositioning of the speakers, or sitting position. The room you're in invokes the sound more than anything. None of the electrons flowing through your speakers will invoke anything, and the cones and stuff is not that stiff and needs break in time. 😂
The NAD 3020 ("Naad", not N A D) was a major entry point to *good sound* for many in the early 80's when I was trying to put together my first system - which was based aroung a Strathearn turntable (with Ortofon VMS 20 cartridge). Now I'm happy with my Rega Planar 3/Exact and Apollo CD feeding intpo a nice set of NVA amplifiers, bi-amping Whasrfedale Pacifics I bought in about 1989. Sweet sounds, and I've never managed to get above 1/2 volume, even when the neighbours are out . . .
Fun video! I have that NAD amp in our guest bedroom. Big fan of the brand ever since I first experienced the classic NAD 3020 via a college roommate. I have the C 162 preamp/processor in the Doom Cave, with Crown XLS 1502 amp, and the updated D3020 V2 compact integrated in the bedroom. Bluesound is nice, but for streaming I saved some $ with the WiiM Pro Airplay 2, which I use to stream my 20,000+ album FLAC collection and Tidal in bedroom and guest room using ROON. Money saved there could go toward a nice set of tower speakers. I'm a big advocate for towers, because for the same footprint you get more power and range in Hz for barely any more $ after you've bought stands. I have Wharfedale, Rega and Zu Audio. The Zu Dirty Weekend II were the most recent purchase, though it's already been four years. I'm very happy with 'em, but first choice would have been Mission QX-5, but couldn't get them shipped from UK affordably. For those on a budget, Danish company Jamo has great affordable options.
Really enjoyed this one and going through the purchasing experience. I’m keep on investing in some nice separates. I’m a newish subscriber and have started going through the videos with you and Anthony (YT suggested the one around owning a record store, and I’ve been hooked ever since haha). All the best. Ed
Exactly! And both influenced the albums too much for my tastes. But Steve Brown co-wrote, played and did leads as well as producing. Bob Ezrin only produced Destroyer so it’s not really a proper example. I like it better when only Ace is driving the sound.
Great choices on you equipment! They did you well. NAD is fantastic. BlueSound Node is also great. I dont know about the speakers but probably also great. I would have probably paired KEF LS50's with it but probably above your budget. You will certainly want some stands as you say. I would look at one of the streaming services that do lossless CD quality. I use the middle ($10) tier of Tidal and it is great but other services also now exist that do CD quality lossless. Roon is also worth a look. It is not a streaming service (it pairs with Tidal for that) but a music management system that I love but it is very much for people that play a lot of varied music and/or have a decent sized library of ripped CDs. (I ripped all mine to FLAC decades ago).
*WOW! When I bought my last Audio system, I brought I think 2 (or 3) CDs to test it... One was POISONs "Flesh & Blood" with that intro "Strange Days of Uncle Jack" going into "Valley of lost souls" which I played very loud!*

Enjoy!
I’ll have to look for that type!
Very nice 😊. TROOPER album, excellent choice. What? You're kitty not jumping inside the empty boxes 😂...that's a first .
That’s only because they weren’t empty yet. But he made his way into the boxes later as they got emptied. Haha
Raise a little hell!
Speakers on the floor, no way Jose! Even a pair of cheap stands will make a world of diff. I didn't spend much on mine.
He did say temporary set up.
@@ENGLISHISBEST I actually got the stands b4 the speakers got to me, so I'd be ready. Tweeters at ear level is crucial.
If he sits on the floor a couple of breeze blocks would do.
Iso Pucks at least
@@BrendonSnyder No problem my friend. Have fun. ✌️
@@BrendonSnyder You don't need to put any weight on the CD player. The CD player is digital. The DA converter will have no influence on this type of snake-oil tip. 😂
Cool! Hope you enjoy your new system 👍
Good picks on the gear! NAD and Bluesound are both Canadian 🇨🇦 company’s. And are great products. I’m not to educated on those Fyne speakers but I’m sure they are great! Enjoy! 🔈👍🏻
Fyne is a Scottish company mostly formed from ex Tannoy employees.
Nice job here, it always great to get new toys!!!
Thank you for sharing the information specially regarding the band Troopers!!! I have not heard much about this band until now.
Bought my Maggie's there. Great people that really know their stuff.
Thanks Victor! Yes the speakers will come off the floor. I just didn’t have stands and need a little time to decipher next steps.
I have the NAD amp. Great piece of equipment for the money. It’s a solid performer.
Congratulations! You deserve a hi fi system. We discussed at the first meet and greet. Happy for you.
Thanks John! The time felt right.
Yeah man - it will change the whole listening experience - idea for a show - cds you like but like more now because of the new speakers
Let us know about the Node - don't have a streamer (yet)
Also upgrade headphones and earbuds. LoL
He knows. He mentions it in the video
I saw your LG DVD player and thought why not use that for CD's. I use my Sony DVD player as it plays SACD's and sounds great. I like those speakers they look sweet.
NAD system 👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Please share your review of the speakers, interested in upgrading mine as well.
Cheers
Nothing better than upgrading your system. I have a Denon SACD/CD player on the way, can’t wait.
Great video Brendon And those components are spot on for digital listening, NAD is a great brand. Enjoy
I bought these wonderful Edifer brand speakers a couple of years ago. They are perfect in connection with my Sony cd player.
Looks like a nice system. I know NAD is a good brand. Have fun playing your music wih your new system.
Thank you!
Nice equipment Brendon. NAD is quality stuff. Enjoy 👍🏻
Thanks Tony! I had always heard good stuff about NAD but this is my first time trying their equipment. I have to say so far I’m pleasantly surprised.
The NAD should be very nice, they have always designed and sold excellent equipment.
Waiting for this along time
You can't go wrong with NAD gear, good performance for sensible money I think sums them up.
Long time ago I bought new separates,H H Scott and Luxman gear..still making great music to my ears!
Congratulations , enjoy.
I have the Fyne Audio F500s and they are incredible (to my ears anyway). Enjoy!
Thank you James! How long have you had yours?
@@BrendonSnyder for about a year. You’d definitely benefit from them being on stands or at least up at ear height (at your listening position) somehow
Nice set up! I have the same amp and cd player and have been really happy with them.
Awesome. I never thought of Flesh And Blood as being a audiophile type recording but I will definitely give it another listen. It is a great album. Congrats on the new system.
NAD makes very good equipment. I've purchased numerous equipment from NAD.
That's really frustrating. You picked up some quality kit, and I think your experience will be much improved.
Guess what?, Now you are going to have to listen to 12,000+ cd’s all over again, cause now they are going to sound so much better, congrats!!!!!
Thought I'd watch the video, not knowing what you'd walk out with. Turns out I also have the F500's that I purchased as store demos locally, and a Node and PowerNode. What really caught my attention was the Rampage in the background. Had two of them and two Invaders years ago. Cantrell!!
I have that NAD! It’s. A great little amp for bedroom size rooms. I noticed a “break in” time with it. Now it sounds great!
How do you mean? I’m curious what I should be expecting.
Sweet sounds, and I've never managed to get above 1/2 volume, even when the neighbours are out . . .
Fyne is a good choice and superb value
Great setup Brendon. I've seen other peoples setup using equipment from NAD. Enjoy your new stereo system :)
Thanks Edmund! I’m new to the brand but I’ve heard good things about it.
The NAD stuff is really nice congrats, I am sure you will love the system
Mad is awsome equipment, made in England, I have had the
amp you bought.
Nice System Brendon!! Enjoy! Have you ever heard of the Samples out of Boulder CO? Lots of great music! I think you might like them.
Next phase two will be to order a pair of the smaller REL subwoofers and the system will take a huge jump in imaging and overall balance !
It’s an unassuming location, especially when you first enter, but it’s real power are its people.
Nice system... I have the NAD 516BEE cd player... one of my favorites...
Enjoy the new system. My NAD system is 30 years old and still going strong.
That’s great to hear! Hopefully my relationship with NAD will be a long one too.
*WOW! When I bought my last Audio system, I brought I think 2 (or 3) CDs to test it... One was POISONs "Flesh & Blood" with that intro "Strange Days of Uncle Jack" going into "Valley of lost souls" which I played very loud!*
Awesome system
You purchased a pair of NAD's. Well done.
@jamminerecordings8724. Yeah, a pair of NADs! Go NADs, Go NADs..... They're the mutz nuts! Am I getting you brother......!
Definitely want a new audio system for my next place
