    Interestingly, the Eiffel Tower was so impressive from the Paris World's Fair that the organizers of the Chicago fair a few years later were desperate for a feat of engineering that would be its equal. After initially turning down an idea from a young designer who was only pretty sure his idea would work - and not kill any fair goers - they eventually commissioned Mr. Ferris to build his wheel. Obviously, it became a big hit, but were it not for the Eiffel Tower, the Ferris Wheel might never have been built.

    Fantastc idea. I always find the history of everyday items or curiosities very soothing: there's no conflict, no intrigues, but they are still fascinating. Also, it's generally more difficult to judge or hold opinions on objects, unlike historical events, and I believe this also helps the mind settle. Thank you. I think we're all in need of simple, relaxing subjects these days.

    This was a wonderful video! It was very relaxing and educational. And as anyone who knows me can tell you, I love learning. I especially love learning about different cultures and peak eras in history. Knowing you’ve traveled so much and gained this knowledge and understanding of worldly things just makes your channel that much more fascinating. Keep up the good work! Your hard work on these videos is definitely worth it. Congrats on the 100k subscribers! You deserve the accolades. Thank you for making these videos too. I appreciate then because they help my Anxiety especially during this time of the pandemic. Merci pour les videos; je les aime beaucoup et je voudrais voir plus des videos dans le futur! YESSSSSSS! I voted for this video a long time ago but it lost to Vampire History in the voting results 😂. I'm a huge fan of antiques and these kind of culturally diverse props. My favorite item was the copy of the book Around the World in 80days by Jules Verne. Beautiful orange color that screams Victorian era. Can't wait to watch this in more detail later this evening!

    I read somewhere tall buildings aren't allowed to be built in Paris because under it the city has such a vast network of catacombs and tunnels it would present a safety risk. (Maybe a future episode on these catacombs?) I've also read somewhere a quote by Michaux or Malraux that the Eiffel tower was their favourite place to have lunch because it was the only place in Paris where they couldn't see the tower. As you said, Parisians didn't care much for the tower :D

    • @kennyerase1109
      @kennyerase1109 2 роки тому

      lol why don't they like the tower?

    • @ZombieDragQueen
      @ZombieDragQueen 2 роки тому

      @@kennyerase1109 They didn't like it because it was an eyesore and didn't fit in with the rest of Paris. It was supposed to only be erected for the World Fair but dismantling it was delayed. Then came WW1 and it was used as a radio signal relay since you want these as high as possible to cover more area. With time Parisians got used to it and opened it as a tourist attraction. Moral of the story? Humans adapt and get used to things. Also, there was an imminent second World War and afterwards a long period of recovering. Bitching about how ugly the tower was and if it should be dismantled wasn't the highest priority on the French people's list.
