    This is first time I’ve seen a video from you.
    But Im really surprised to see a sim racer take serious look at all of motor sports and not be bias just to Endurance sport car racing, or just open wheel racing, or just ovals or road courses. I really liked the fact you looked at any and all Motorsport fans and said who would or would not like this game.
    Great review man!

    Am I the only one who loves when the AI randomly crash?

    • @FallingPicturesProductions
      @FallingPicturesProductions 7 років тому +5

      Define random.
      If you mean like how drivers in real life will have an unexpected crash or off, yes. It adds a bit of realistic variation to the game. If you mean like the AI acting like complete morons and running off track every third corner, its quite a drag.

    • @EmreErturk
      @EmreErturk 5 років тому

      The randomness, artificial human factor, is really hard to achieve. It is a rather scientific model. I do not think pc2 has that. I also think that it would be unfair to expect that from a commercial title like pc2.

    I want to make a correction to what's mentioned in the review.
    There actually IS Flat Spotting through the Force Feedback! It is a lot more subtle compared to rFactor 2 and Assetto Corsa, but it is actually there... You can see me test it a bit in my live stream I did.
    Correction 2: When I put in "Not everyday you drive a Mitsubishi on the Nordschleife in a Blizzard at night", it was ACTUALLY the Nissan GT-R Nismo. I accidentally mixed up the two clips I had planned on using xD

      No, it happened on both cockpit cameras. It was fixed by changing "World Movement to 100%".

      Sim Racing Paddock I'd say the oval track criticism is somewhat of nitpicking, the ONLY game that I've ever played including majority of the NASCAR focused games to get the rules correct, is nascar 07. Which is kind of sad because I loved project cars and the codemasters games because they had yellow and red flags that made the races a little more interesting compared to forza and the bunch. But things like that aren't on priority lists so we'll just have to do without them

      Also this video has as many mistakes as PC1 apparently had lol PC1 was not so bad. This game supports up to 12k not just 4k, just one of many to point out and I'm only five minutes in ;)

    The way I look at this game. It is an all in one package. No messing about with mods, no pay as you go scheme. Everything at day one (Not Including the few DLCs, but you get the point) so I think it can come short on a few things as the price for content is far superior to any other racing title, in my opinion.

    • @FallingPicturesProductions
      @FallingPicturesProductions 7 років тому +4

      For a console player, this'll make PC2 a solid racing title, as console racers don't usually get a chance to mod for improvement, and we generally hate Microtransactions and super-incremental DLC's (One of the reasons why the Forza series is starting to overstay its' welcome).

  • @TheCameltotem
    @TheCameltotem 7 років тому +33

    Considering Asetto Corsa don't even have racing rules or other car classes, these negatives are not even a problem.
    Great review! Seems like much better than I thought. Will buy it!!

    • @niklassilen4313
      @niklassilen4313 7 років тому +5

      Agreed. Also, the AI has it's own problems in AC, like every other sim out there. I just reinstalled AC yesterday (and bought the glorious new Ferrari DLC!! Love it!!) and was quite shocked how bad the AI is still. It does race much more competitively now but it could still get stuck behind me even though I was way slower than them and they couldn't take the first few corners at speed.. but these are problems in virtually all the simulators that have AI. Not sure why Project CARS got so singled out (even the first one).

    • @TheCameltotem
      @TheCameltotem 7 років тому

      Yeah I mean the patch in AC really made the AI so much better but they still got problems just like in any game, PC just gets the most shit for it.

    • @niklassilen4313
      @niklassilen4313 7 років тому

      To be fair though, the AI in pC1 could be absolutely brutal sometimes, especially if the player wasn't up to speed with the AI. It was good practice for online though haha.

    I wish these sim channels would revisit these titles a couple of years after the initial release,
    to give us the _full picture,_ after the game has been rounded-out with updates / patches / DLC etc
    They're always at their most slight upon day 1 release, and we need the big picture of how it ended up imo

    • @Loudlevin

      the youtubers get more clicks when they gang bang a title down when it didnt deserve it. And all the morons watching just eat it up and parrot each other as well. This was a fun game that didnt deserve to get beat down the way it did by all the zombies.

  • @themightydash1714

    Slightly Mad did mention in one of their live streams that they can't have Nascar/F1 accurately portrayed in the game because they don't have the licenses for them series, that's why the DRS isn't based on F1 rules and the Nascar doesn't have cautions, they'd be sued if they had them accurately, it's a shame, I'd love to see proper flagging systems in online races, but we have Broadcast and Race Director mode now so maybe the Director can throw flag messages on screen?

    • @ThisIsKettsGames
      @ThisIsKettsGames 7 років тому +1

      that's a good idea, I guess we will have to see how racing leagues and the pros handle it before anything, it's fair enough when a big crash happens throwing up a caution from the race director but its getting it comunicated and making sure everyone follows it.

    • @ff0732
      @ff0732 7 років тому +5

      Flagging isn't a NASCAR exclusive, it'd just be nice to have a "no overtaking, track hazard" or "red flag, stop your car" every now and then. Just for the variety

    Hi there is a good reason why they don't have Any of the nascar tracks and cars. The studio would have had to pay each sponsor and team owner to be featured and the rules of the nascar series would be under the license as well.

    • @ff0732
      @ff0732 7 років тому

      Pettyium 117 not exactly, I remember in Project cars 1 they'd just make up companies and put them on the cars as sponsors. They'd just have to get Ford Chevrolet and Toyota licenses

    I really liked this review. I enjoyed the first Project Cars but it certainly had its faults. NASCAR is my favorite form of motorsports but I appreciate other racing series as well. You mentioned that there's only three ovals but you're forgetting the Historic Monza Oval which a neat addition to the game. Full course cautions would be nice but they seem to be wonky in other titles. I suspect private/league racing will end up implementing manual cautions anyway, especially now that the broadcasting feature exists. As a NASCAR fan I also appreciate the fact they have the 69 Camaro Trans Am which has a lot of similarities with the stock cars of that era. I do hope they bring back the late 80s/early 90s Chevy Lumina "Days of Thunder" stock car in a DLC at some point.What I really loved about Project Cars was the variety of vehicles and the fact you could instantly jump around between vastly different disciplines and PC2 seems to have amped this up with many more tracks and vehicles to choose from. I definitely think there's a market for people such as myself who like sim racing but prefer to race on a console. I'm really looking forward to this release and I think Project Cars 2 has the ability to become a much more affordable Iracing.

    Don't confuse the fact the FA is based on 2011 F1 specifications and the FA series having F1 rules... the rules can be whatever and not having DRS zones and some 1 second distance BS was the choice (as it was in PC1) in fact trying to copy F1 rules would probably fall foul of the F1 Codemasters license. Simple fact is DRS is a BS answer to a simple problem.. get rid of wing based Aero.

    • @Schadows77
      @Schadows77 7 років тому

      I see no wrongs with DRS in F1, if someone is not slower and still passed thanks to DRS, he will have the same advantage afterward. Where is the harm ? unless people like driver who avoiding being passed pure based on blocking.

    I like Gran Turismo, I really do. It's just that, it's missing something. The big comparison is to Project Cars 2 right now. I see GT Sport as that woman that brings in all the makeup artists from around the world to do the most remarkable work on her presentation, walk, speech, and prepare her with the scripted delivery to the public. She's visually flawless and you can't quite criticize her at face value, but you really can't connect with her.
    Project Cars 2 is still that sexy woman that's sought after, but she grew up in the suburbs and has plenty friends that she connects with daily. Her approach is natural, and she responds to you. She may have a few flaws that you can point out, but all around, she's the one you want to take home.

    • @FallingPicturesProductions
      @FallingPicturesProductions 7 років тому +1

      And nowadays, alot of drivers who rise through the F1 feeder series will often migrate over to Indycar if they can't find a way in F1 (Joseph Newgarden, Alexander Rossi). Seems like quite an acceptable deduction to me, if you can't have F1 itself in the game.

    Great game review, honest, no pulled punches and with the game it's about where I'd expect something this filled to produce. After launch I'm positive the minor bugs over time will be fleshed out like Project Cars (1). So stoked to get this sim and yes I'm really saddened that the oval racing experience seems a bit shy. However, with enough comments, requests, and complaints for improvements I'm sure they'll eventually make great adjustments. With a game/sim of this scale on console, will inevitably have some issues where it looks like no one did enough research in certain motorsports but the main course should still be a fulfilling delight to enjoy.

    I wish in Formula 1 they would get rid of: KERS, DRS, Qualifying broken into 3 separate stages, post Podium interviews, the HALO, etc... And I’d like to see them bring back refueling during the races. Also, I’m sure having several more teams out there on the tracks would liven things up a bit. The drivers microphones also need a HUGE amount of upgrading, as most of the time I can’t understand a word they say. Also I think it would be pretty cool if teammates could talk directly to each other during the races. And, if nothing else, I’m pretty certain many many of those conversations would be hugely entertaining for us, the fans, to listen to! 😁

    Loved this review and you got yourself a new subscriber. I really loved PC1 at first because of the handling-model that made the car feel like it had weight and that things like tires and suspension were really working. I've played racing-games/sims on consoles from Gran Turismo 1 and Forza 1 onwards and PC1 was my favourite until i started to hate it. The game got a career-save bug that at first destroyed my save after some 100 hours that i had put into it, then it did the same to my next save after dozens of hours of driving. It got more and more frequent until i couldn't play career anymore, with no update ever from the developers to fix this . I just hope that Slightly Mad-Studios haven't let this bug slip also into PC2...

    Well it is now 2024. I agree with all you say in your video. I have had Project Cars 2 for quite a while now and really like what it provides. Though there is not much in 3rd party modding for this game, it is still fun to do races - select a car, a track, and go racing. It has allot more variety of tracks and cars compared to some of the newer games today. Getting tired of just GT racing games. PC2 gives kind of a sample of different tracks and vehicles and don't mind that - I am not fussy. It is just a racing game.

    Basically if you liked the first game you will love this one if you didnt like the first one it might be worth a try depending on your view of it. I personally loved the first game for the GT3 Class and Endurance and see it more as an Endurance Sim with added extras to have fun with and mess about with.

    I love driving in the rain but the footage here seems to be the same as PC1 regards the wipers cleaning the windscreen (windshield). They've not changed it and it still looks bad! The only title that handles this correctly is drive club (sorry not played forza but) so they know what they've got to aim for! Other than that the extra tracks and cars are welcome.

    Your main disappointment in PCars2 is the same for me too, this game and almost every sim game lacks something really important: immersion, gameplay is shallow, developers focus too much on the looks but not in the immersion, I think that Worthabuy express this more clearly and directly than I can in a couple of lines.

    I agree about the racing regulations. Pcars does way more than Forza in this area, but it's actually more annoying things aren't right.
    I love f1 2017 due to the regulations and strategies you expect from an official focused title along with the deep immersive career mode.

    Great review, William! Did you purposely stay away from comparing it to other sim titles like Assetto Corsa, iRacing, and rFactor2? I think each title has its pros and cons, but I would love to hear your opinion on how Project Cars 2 compares to them individually....and perhaps a ranking of the major titles for different feature sets.

    • @Simracingpaddock
      @Simracingpaddock  7 років тому +14

      I didn't mean to, I just wanted to focus on the features and other elements. In some ways I feel the car's behavior is a bit better than AC, especially in low speed corners and managing slides.I think rFactor 2 still has it beat for tire model.
      I'm planning on doing a "Sim Racing Superlatives" video, where I do rank them based on features, so look out for that soon :D

    How do the physics and force feedback compare with the likes of rfactor2, raceroom and Assetto? Being somewhat underwhelmed by ASsetto, I was a little disappointed to see another reviewer say that the physics and force feedback in PC2 wasn't even on par with Assetto.

    This is the first ever video i have seen from you, but this is magnificent! Excellent review with very high standards and talking about all the game's modes.
    With that said though, i have a question for you, is this game enjoyable to play with a controller?
    Yes, i know i should get a wheel to get maximum enjoyment out of sim games but i ain't got the money neither the space, so will i be able to have fun and enjoy proper simulation with a controller?
    Thank you in advance, you have now a new subscriber.

      There's plenty of videos from other sim racers who already highlighted this question. I come from playing PC1 with a controller and with proper settings, it felt nice. Enough to play the game at its full - controller experience - potential. People said it felt super bad and they seem to have improved it. So it means it's gonna be fine.

    • @Simracingpaddock
      @Simracingpaddock  7 років тому

      I haven't done much testing myself with a controller, but from what little I did, I enjoyed it (most of my controller testing was at a press event where it was sampling Ice Racing). I'll do some testing at home but I think it is a solid improvement.

    Does the engineer have a "safety net?" I know how to setup cars and stuff and along the way i learned often people will setup to fix problems with driving instead of problems with the car resulting in "fixing" non existent problems. Does it prevent you from doing that in any way? I certainly think its a cool and neat feature to help people but i'm wondering if it'll run into that. Id hate to see it turn off the exact people its trying to help since this is the first time ive seen it in a game. Until you can drive on the edge of the input limits properly in a car your time is likely lost due to driver error. Many new guys think "it has to be setup" and often thats just not the case. After re-watching that section it looks like it may be playing it safe but its hard to say.

I do still wish they would release a simple demo though to see if I like the feel on my wheel (Also V2.5) but the fact that you compared the feel of the tire model to rFactor2 got me excited!! - A question though..... How does the AI deal with the weather/track variance? I could imagine races getting ruined with an aquaplane pile up! :D

    Haven't played PC2 yet, so I can't say much about the physics and or the controls. But judging by your footage, PC2 can't hold a candle in terms of graphics compared to Forza Motorsport 7. I tried the FM7 Demo in 4K and it is a blast, no matter if in the rain or with dry weather.

    tire models are great, you know what all the racing simulators are lacking...? really realistic and detailed track surfice texture! I know they have bumps in the surfice but they lack asphalt texture itself, because as asphalt itself is not slick and smooth... we all know it... when they inovate that, then i will pick it up - the physics were never fully based only on the car... big part is the surfice where the car is placed on. No racing sim has done that ever... GTR2 back in 2003 had great physics on car already... the isuue since then is lack of creativity from developer stand point to inovate and discover what is missing... FFB is bad or too strong for all games because track surfice is slick, so they compensate but can't find a sweet-spot, because there will always be something left out

  • @Steve30x
    @Steve30x 7 років тому

    I spent about six hours on this game on my brothers ps4 last night with a Thrust master T150. Its horrible on PS4. The physics are the same as PCars 1 and the only FFB we felt was center spring. There was no feel from bumps on the road surface , there was no rumble from kerbs and there was no feel from what the car was doing like under steer or oversteer. We tried adjusting FFB settings but it made no difference. I have this game on PC and the physical s are much better with fantastic FFB. It seems SMS released a broken ps4 version.

    So there isn't anything more to the Rallycross events than just the main final? That was a bit annoying for me, as a big RX enthusiast. If at least the semi-finals are included, that could do for me (the first two races in the Swedish shampionship in 1999 was raced using a similar format, so that could be a bit fun for me in that sense!), but only one race per event? Nice that everything else seems to be well done, though! :)

    I have a question about PC2 in relation to the car roster.
    In PC1 when you selected a car you didn't have a choice of the livery and that is something which i hate about PC1 because some of the car liveries are just awful in my opinion.
    Do we have the option of choosing a livery in PC2?

      Project CARS 2, I feel it just has a greater variety of content, and a more fleshed out experience. Where GT Sport excels is the online racing system, but I think the content is far too pared down to really make it truly enjoyable. I keep on just racing the same tracks over and over in GT Sport =\
