Hear me out - emongg does a challenge where he and his team have to give call outs that are the complete opposite of what's true - Torb left! (He's right) Zar full HP! (She's low HP)

Hey commenters I don't play OW much but I watch Emongg. When he does a spectating he always says never let your shield break but like 1/3 times he uses his shield he lets it break. I know he says its situational, but is using a like 46 hp shield worth it to block damage instead of just taking the damage?

Well the 46hp shield blocks cc but ur 46 health doesn't

It’s more of an ideal. Like try to not let it break but done focus too much on it.

When he says "don't let your shield break" he means don't let it just stand there & take spam dmg. Sometimes your shield is going to break.

like everything in overwatch, it depends. the reason you want to avoid letting your shield break needlessly is because when the shield breaks, there's a longer delay before it begins to regen again than if you recall the shield. that extra second can matter.
HOWEVER, there are no hard and fast rules in overwatch. sometimes your shield is going to break no matter what. sometimes letting it break is worth the extra second you could buy your team by keeping it up and letting it break. sometimes you need to block some cc that could turn the fight in the enemy's favor if it lands. the value you get from letting your shield break in those situations outweighs the cost of letting it break (the delay in regenning, not having your shield again sooner). in those situations, you SHOULD let your shield break.
but note that these situations are ones where you are making a conscious decision. you are choosing the trade off. making that decision is not the same thing as shielding any ol' random spam damage just because. if you're going to let your shield break, there needs to be a reason (or it has to be out of your control, like suddenly the shield takes a bajillion damage and melts in an instant). if you don't have a reason, don't let it break.
