I just honestly don't understand how people get behind a party who glorifies a man that trashed John McCain's name and legacy because "he was captured". Republicans, and more importantly, our country, needed a person like McCain to keep political parties from becoming too extreme and divisive. Ever since he passed, I feel like the political cohesiveness and unity that he demonstrated, sadly, went with him. Rest In Peace John McCain. May your service and legacy inspire the next generation to lead by example and work together.

McCain defending Obama shows how much character the man had. Sadly our country is filled with extremists. Trump just made them acceptable. Even to this day, people will defend and put their life up for Trump because he agrees with all the nonsense they believe. It's sad that half of our Americans will believe conspiracies, guns, god, and whatever else instead of trying to work together on issues like healthcare, school shootings, education, environment, and social issues. I wish we listen to George Washington and not have any parties. But us as Human Beings, it's in our nature to fight each other.

In 1967, the USS Forrestal suffered near catastrophic damage from a fire that raged on-board for nearly two days. John McCain was stationed on the Forrestal at the time and was quite likely responsible for the fire that killed 134 sailors and injured 62 others.
Hot dog pilots were well known for their "wet-starts," a process which allows fuel to build up in the engine before hitting the plane's start switch. The result of the wet-start is a long flame erupting from the tail of the plane. It was done simply for effect, a showy procedure meant to draw attention to the pilot. On June 29, 1967, John McCain is alleged to have used a wet-start to "shake up" a pilot in the plane behind him. The result was a fired rocket, dropped bombs and a fire that raged for nearly two days. 134 sailors lost their lives and another 62 were badly injured. McCain never had to answer for the incident. His father and grandfather were Navy admirals with a great deal of sway. This is the man who many clueless Ukrainians were tricked into clapping for.

I'm a US Marine Vet and The Atlantic article I just read bought me here. What he said about McCain's military service was disgusting & disrespectful and the fact that while President he called our dead heroes and amputees "losers" and "suckers" and "people that nobody wants to see in a parade" is the one of the most disrespectful thing I heard from military-dodging President Bone Spurs. I do believe the details of the article and the sources are all former white advisors/staff that worked under him and he has a reputation of saying similar things about McCain and John Kerry so this aligns with past comments he's publicly made. It's well known that he threatened his son with disinheritance if he joined the military and his neice said he made fun of his older brother for becoming a pilot and for desiring to entire the military instead of running family business. I think deep down inside that he envies the bravery of troops because troops are heavily honored and adored and praised and those are things he constantly seeks from his supporters. He has no respect for our troops and the sacrifices the military makes. He thinks money to the military is all that matters. Intangible attributes such as character, respect, morals, and pride for our troops matters more than money. He grew up with money and money has always solved most of his problems, which is why he thinks it means more than anything else. He disrespected amputees, those that got captured as a POW, and those that died but they deserve his respect more. After reading that article, I'm begging for other Vets and military service people to vote this "loser" and "sucker" out of the White House! He's wrong for our country and wrong for our troops and their families. I hope we get to tell him "Trump, You're Fired"!
