1:44 what is most impressive to me, is how that column of water clearly want's to disperse outward (looks prickly), but the sheer force of the upward blast, keeps sucking the water up into the atmosphere, collapsing the column. Until finally the weight of the water wins and comes crashing down, with who knows how many tons per square meter.
One of the ships present was the battleship Arkansas, she rode out test Able (the airburst) with minimal damage, but was very close to ground zero for test Baker: The 26,000 ton battleship was bodily lifted from the sea as all the water in the lagoon was instantly vaporised or blasted away at mach 2. The blast removed everything above deck and completely impacted the starboard side of her hull. It also ripped off the two starboard propellers and their shafts, along with the rudder and part of the stern, shortening the hull by 7metres. The poor ship was then hammered down into the shallow bottom by the descent of the approximately two million tons of spray and seabed thrown up by the blast. This sank Arkansas.

Here in Japan people take atomic bombs personally. Most people know little about these bombs, or their effects. It was said that if these bombs were used on Japan, the land would be sterilized, and nothing would grow for 75 years, that they would be uninhabitable by living things. But 8 months after the bombs were dropped, people were moving back into Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and already growing fruits and vegetables in land cleared of buildings by the blasts.

What science does? Lol. Humanity does. Want to save the planet? Maybe start a murder suicide cult. Or develop a tool that lowers just human fertility and disperse it globally. If you've had any kids than give yourself a big pat on the back and a congratulations because you just made the problem way worse. Ill be dead long before its a problem (even if its a problem in a decade) so its on you. Get to work. Ill warn you though, stopping modern science wont help. Just knowing to wash our hands and not drink spoiled water is way more then enough to maintain a strongly positive population growth. Add in even poorly effective farming and we will turn the planet into a global version of Haiti in another century or two. I mean you got to feed the fam right? All 10 of them and the grandparents. If you need to slash and burn a hundred acres of rainforest then so be it. When your successful you'll be able to be nicer to the environment, and your 100 grandchildren and 1000 great grandchildren definitely won't need to burn another 100,000 acres themselves or murder their neighbors to keep feeding their brood of 10,000. Sorry. Its just annoying to hear people whine about the environment but no one ever wants to face up to the ugly truth because, well, you can sell solar panels and teslas, but its hard to campaign behind "your evil for wanting children, if you want to save the planet have a vasectomy/historectomy and get a dog". I guess you could become a dictator and force the issue, but I expect it would be a short run. The only thing that will save the planet is us wiping ourselves out, or maybe getting really lucky and shipping off among the stars to find new places to break first. People love shiny new toys, we just need to distract a few billion of them. Maybe we will find some dimensional portals like in the Expanse right?
@CKS1949 which unfortunately makes his statement true. While I'm personally a big fan of modern medicine since I'd be dead 3+ times over by now without it, the truth is that things like antibiotics have done *way* more harm than nukes ever did. I know at this point someone will be thinking "wth?" But its true. Every scientific advancement that increases humanities survival rates and birth rates further dooms the planet. We are a species with no natural predator besides ourselves and with the ability to live and thrive in nearly any climate on the planet and each male/female pair can easily reproduce 6-8 times in their lifetime. Since the next generation is able to breed as young as 14-15, we can easily double the population every 20-30 years. And as a society we do nothing to stop it or discorage it. And because we are biological beings we naturally compete and consume as much as we possibly can in an attempt to put our offspring at an advantage. We are perfectly setup to ascend to and maintain the position at the top of the global food chain. And so by "winning", we are actually doomed to "lose" since its clear we will not stop until we carpet the planet with a thick layer of humans, multiple stories deep. I honestly believe what I described above is why space is so deadly silent of any traces of intelligent life. Because it simply doesn't exist for very long, and most or all of them never make it off their home world in great enough numbers to maintain their species before they totally consume their homeworld.

this should not exist, nothing of this sort should exist. the genius and stupidity of human are on the extreme ends of a spectrum.
No it should definitely exist even if we are chimps with a button that can end the world its really the only forseeable way we could advance as quickly as we did, and if we didnt invent it the majority of the world would probably of been killed off from us sucking up every last drop of oil...
@@bigshrimp6458 i agree with you but without atomic energy earth would survive. Not humans.. But with such destruction and the scale of it will add upto nothing but total annihilatio.
Riad Ahmed yeah the scale of destruction is almost enough to end the world but life will most definitely still go on its just going to be alot more primitive and cockroachy. But atleast since we’re in this multiverse we arent surrounded by oceans that arent much more than toxic soup for the moment and we still have a chance to end the danger of nuclear annihilation.
Should exist. Nothing about the technology, it’s who wields it.
Should exist. If we did not get this sort of technology we would have a lot more wars and use a lot more coal and oil which are bigger killers then these nukes.

Ah yes, if remember correctly, this test was to determine if a navy flotilla could survive an underwater explosion. The entire flotilla was doomed cause even the ships that survived unscathed by the blast were still irradiated to hell and back and everyone would've died anyway...

shockwave looks eerily similar to the blast in Beirut.
Thats what big blasts look like, not nuke blasts alone.
When you say “Trump, in a landslide”...............complete with tears alllllll over again. Delicious.
Here in Japan people take atomic bombs personally. Most people know little about these bombs, or their effects. It was said that if these bombs were used on Japan, the land would be sterilized, and nothing would grow for 75 years, that they would be uninhabitable by living things. But 8 months after the bombs were dropped, people were moving back into Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and already growing fruits and vegetables in land cleared of buildings by the blasts.

imagine what it looked like underwater
If you look REALLY closely, you can actually see radiation flashes inside the mushroom explosion, which is mostly water. Can you see it flashing inside?
This is a glimpse of what science does to earth(our only home).
There's something dramatically wrong with human nature. Very sad indeed.
