    This is exquisite! Your detail to the specific colors are mind boggling. You have had to play with these colors a lot, to get the specific shades you go after. This soap is gorgeous! I love watching your videos! Thank you for sharing! xoxo

      +Susan King Hi Susan ~ I do play with the colors a lot, LOL! Even then, they don't always come out like I plan. Not for lack of trying though, eh? :)

    I've probably watched 50 or 60 soap making videos over the post few days, hoping that by doing so I won't be so nervous about making my very first batch. This is the first video upon which I've felt compelled to comment... I absolutely love everything about your design.. I'm guessing it smells as wonderful as it looks! Thank you for sharing.. you make the entire process seem so easy. I hope I'm able to approach making my first batch of soap the the same sense of calming joy you so effortlessly convey! Thanks again.

      Katherine Ahrens Hi Katherine ~ thank you for watching my video and the sweet comment. I remember feeling very intimidated and a little frightened the first time I made soap. Soon, I loved it so much I couldn't wait to make the next batch, LOL! I hope you'll get as much fun and feeling of accomplishment from soap-making as I have. Best of luck to you! :) ione eve

      For now, until time permits where I can make soap...I’ll enjoy your videos❤️

      Hi Elizabeth ~ Thank you for watching my video and your sweet compliment. :) I have not done a color mixing video. I've taken many watercolor painting and art classes and that's where I learned about color theory and mixing colors. It would be hard to teach that in a 20 minute video, LOL! Maybe when I retire from making soap I'll do some tutorial videos.

    Hi Ione, How on earth do you get your soap batter (if you will) to stay so thin for so long. I hardly even blend that much and my batter is so thick so fast. Made a batch of Oatmeal, milk and honey with raw honey and it flopped!!!!! When I took the towel off.......OMG, the oil that was sitting on top of the soap and the soap was sunken down, no longer to the top of the mold. I used gold mica, td and cocoa colors....they were awesome and it looked great so imagine my face when I saw all the oil floating.....I was sooooo bummed. I need to rub elbows with you so that all my soaps end up as nice as yours. I love, love, love watching your videos. Yes, I am addicted to them. You are such an inspiration to watch and shows me that with persistence, I too one day will be able to make soaps as nice as yours.....and that's someday, not anytime soon. I have a loooooong way to go. Keep the videos coming!!!!! Happy soaping!!!! :)

    • @EvesGardenSoaps
      @EvesGardenSoaps  7 років тому +3

      Hi Lisa ~ Please accept my apology for not replying sooner. I just saw your comment today and feel bad that It's been so long. I hope the last couple years have given you some amazing soaps, and you can probably figure out what went wrong with the Oatmeal Milk and Honey batch you describe here. The thing that helps the batter stay thin for me is not allowing it to trace before pouring into color containers. Also, I use a lot of fragrances that loosen the batter, and that helps. Now, sometimes I need to wait for it to thicken up a bit before molding, LOL! I still have the "off" batch that thickens quickly too, so you are not alone in that. Thank you for responding to my video and happy soaping! :) ione eve

      We all have such different taste in music and unfortunately for me, it can be very distracting. Have you thought of leave the tunes out. I personally think that ANY video where music is played, takes away from the lesson. Your soaps are absolutely beautiful. Love you color combinations. How many pounds do your recipes make.

    • @EvesGardenSoaps
      @EvesGardenSoaps  8 років тому

      Hi Theresa ~ thanks for watching my videos, and the nice compliments. I think I will delete this video until I can redo the music. The ones I've been working on recently still have music, but the volume is very low. To answer your question ~ my standard recipe makes 3 lbs, and the larger batch is a little over 5 lbs. I have also done experimental soaps with all sorts of sizes, LOL! :) ione eve

    Absolutely beautiful soap! I have two questions... I was watching your hanger swirl and were you doing "figure 8's"?? It would be GREAT if you could do a video just on hanger swirls WITHOUT any soap in there just to show the technique so we can just see what is going on "under there" :) The other question is the color in the bottles... how do you pre-mix them and do you keep them in those containers in between batches? Thanks so much for your video and to letting us see your techniques!

      +Angie D Hi Angie ~ thank you for watching my video and the lovely compliment. To answer your questions, I am doing figure 8's for the hanger swirl. Most of the time I go side to side coming up from the bottom, then up and down going from one side to the other. Sometimes, after that I do circular swirls starting from the middle and increasing in size out to the edges.
      The little bottles have extra light olive oil and cosmetic minerals that I get from Brambleberry. I don't know what the ratio is, because I don't do exact measurements - probably around 2.5 parts oil to 1 part powder. I do leave the colors in the bottles, then shake them up before using. It sure saves a lot of time when they're made up ahead. I hope this helps and happy soaping! :) ione eve

    Why do you put the soap in the fridge if it heats up? On your videos would you be able to say where you get the colours, scents , etc please if you want to that is lol thank you! I love how your soaps look! I'm just starting out and I only made 2 batches of plain soap so far...I want to practice using the colours. There are different types of colour powders and liquids to buy out there..I don't know the difference between Mica and Cosmetic grade powder..Is the one you're using better and safer? Sorry for all the questions lol..I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos!

      Hi, and please accept my apology for not responding sooner. Somehow your comment was directed to a place for "approval", but I didn't receive a notice about it. I just got a notice for "approving" a new comment, then saw yours. I'm very sorry.
      I don't mind your questions at all. I love to talk about soap, LOL! I buy colors from Brambleberry.com. Cosmetic-grade minerals and mica are the best for cold process soap (and for skin care). I mix them with extra light olive oil ahead of time. I've also bought liquid colors for melt & pour soap base, but don't use them very often. Mica is iridescent, and the color it makes is usually not vivid. Powdered mineral colorants and oxides are very vibrant colors. I use them the most, then add some mica if I want a "sheen" in the design. Mica can also be used for divider lines between layers, and beautiful accent swirls on top of soap.
      When using color in a soap design, the tint of the oils and fragrance in the recipe makes a big difference. They can have strong yellow, orange and green tints. Knowledge of how colors are mixed is valuable. For instance, if you want to have a vibrant purple in your soap, oils and fragrance that are tinted yellow or orange will turn the purple to gray. When designing soap, I use colors that will work with the oils and fragrance I'm using. I've learned this the hard way sometimes. (Watch "Failed Sparkly Day, LOL!) I hope this information helps, and happy soaping! :) ione eve

    • @EvesGardenSoaps
      @EvesGardenSoaps  7 років тому +2

      Hi Gina ~ thank you for watching my video and the lovely compliments. The colors I use are powdered, cosmetic-grade minerals from Brambleberry. I mix them with extra-light olive oil. The oxides and colorants shake-up well. They are the ones in the little squirt bottles, and the ratio is 1 part color to 5 parts oil. I mix the colors with a frothier before putting in the squirt bottles.
      Mica doesn’t shake-up very good, so I put them in little containers, and stir before using. The ratio for mica is 1 part color to 2 parts oil. I reduce the amount of liquid oil in the recipe according to what I expect to add when coloring, usually around half an ounce. Sometimes, I let the superfat% go higher to cover the extra oil.
      I get the little squirt bottles from Dollar Tree. Glitter Glue comes in them, 3 in a package. I empty the glue and wash them. The glue is water-soluble and the bottles are very easy to clean, not to mention cheap, LOL! I hope this helps, and happy soaping!

    Hi! I am watching your videos and I am noticing that you put your colors into a oil... (I am a beginner), that doesn't affect the quantity of oil vs lye you use? Thank you :D, BTW your soaps are AMAZING!

    • @EvesGardenSoaps
      @EvesGardenSoaps  7 років тому +2

      Hi Christine ~ thank you for watching my videos. To answer your question, the oil in the colors will affect the calculation of lye for the recipe. When using a lot of TD and/or colors, I figure the added oil in a couple ways. 1. Discount the amount of olive oil about .5 ounce. 2. Allow a higher superfat percent. Dairy additions are treated the same way, because of the extra milk fat. I hope this helps, and happy soaping! :) ione eve

    Beautiful soaps. Do you mix your mica and pigments to use as needed? If so what do you mix with? Oil/alcohol/water? Is there a specific ratio you use? I am new to soaping. Trying to get a handle on all these tips and tricks of the trade. Tytyty

      @EvesGardenSoaps  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Durinda ~ Please forgive my late reply. I just found many comments in a list without notifications sent. MY BAD! To answer your question about colorants, all soap makers do it differently. I use cosmetic-grade minerals for coloring and mix them ahead of time with extra-light olive oil. The ratio is 1part color/5 parts oil for colorants, 1 part color/3 parts oil for mica. Mica does not shake up, so I put them in containers and stir before using. I hope this information helps and happy soaping!

      Hi Denise ~ Thank you for watching my video and your interest in the colors used. I get asked a lot about this and wrote up a little explanation. I hope it helps answer your question. :) ione eve
      The colors I use are powdered, cosmetic-grade minerals from Brambleberry. I mix them with extra-light olive oil. Oxides and colorants shake-up well, they are the ones in the little squirt bottles. The ratio is 1 part color to 5 parts oil. Mica doesn’t shake-up very good, so I put them in little containers, and stir before using. The ratio for mica is 1 part color to 3 parts oil. I reduce the amount of liquid oil in the recipe according to what I expect to add when coloring. Or, sometimes use it to increase the superfat percent.
