Many times, when I look at the comments under such videos. Emotional Trance music videos. I see comments of people that seem...desperate. Unhappy with their lives, or so it seems to me. Until they suddenly hear the music. Then, they seem to be able to cope... I feel sadness in their words... about their existence. Why is that so? I ask myself... This music gets to our souls. To us at least, who really enjoy this. I could meditate peacefully on such beautiful music. One thing I have noticed over the years is that maybe 1 person out of a 1000 will really like Trance. In my immediate surroundings, no one like to listen to it. My wife hates it. For her, the vibes she gets from Trances/Techno, even emotional, is like Death Metal. So not good vibes at all. I believe her...that to her this kind of music just is noise. I don't understand why though. Me, I just find it so beautiful (well not all of them Trances out there...but many). To me, my soul feel the music. beautiful
I can answer you, please don't get offended. It's almost impossible for a musician to transmit drama or sadness using the Major scale, but it's equally as easy to do it so with the Minor scale. I could come to you with a theory that the frequency of the notes being played in a Minor Scale hits the brain where sad memories are located, to be particularly simple with my explanation. Another theory I could come up to with you is if the song is in a Major Scale, the person feeling sad will also remember the transition of becoming more happy. As for your wife thinking it's just noise I am very sorry to say she might not be in contact with her emotions, or just don't want to transmit sadness to anybody around. Or something much more worse than that.
I've had the same experience from others around me that instantly feel affronted by trance. But I find peace in the power of its beat and the serenity of its journey
