  • This is my experience thus far trying to attain a large boar bristle mason Pearson brush. I am not saying this is a fake. It was expensive and I would really love for it to be real.

I wrote Mason Pearson & a rep from Harry Koenig the dist in US got back to me next day. I am also looking into the B3 Handy. Some of the info I got from another Stephanie was very informative.
The bristle and/or nylon are dry when the hairbrush is bought (we have to have them in a dry state in order to work with them) and it needs to absorb some of the natural oils and moisture from the hair, unique to each of us, until both are in equilibrium. So after a while it should settle down. Thus the bristle & the hair it is brushing both become conditioned during the brushing process. Each time you wash your hair you are effectively stripping your hair of its natural oils and moisture, The more often you wash your hair the longer it will take for the bristle/nylon to be able to absorb the oil and moisture from your hair.
It would be wise to persevere with using the hairbrush so that it can take up the natural oils and moisture from the hair - but without applying too much pressure when brushing the hair. Often if people have not used a Mason Pearson hairbrush before they can be very surprised by how stiff the bristles feel. For people who have used a Mason Pearson hairbrush before, the new brush can often feel stiff because they are comparing it (often subconsciously) to their old brush, which has softened up because it has taken up the natural oils and moisture from the hair.

However, there is a short fix you could try, that is to soak the pad (bristle tips only) in water so that the process is accelerated and not to wet clean the hairbrush too often to start with until you get the balance right, but being extremely careful not to let any water come into contact with the rubber pad.

Your brush looks real. I was lucky to find a real BN1 & BN2 on the bay. I was told Costco are not authentic. Those think black boar bristles are very special.

Ups... I’m thinking about getting one, very excited indeed... but now you bring me back :/ in Europe they are more affordable but still expensive. In all the reviews I saw, no one mentioned that the hair is being pulled off... but idk maybe is just a hype and the brush is not that good. To bad that this is not something you can return.
    Thanks have a nice day

Yes ty, I heard it doesn't pull hair as much as normal brushes. I am real beginning to think I bought a fake.

    I agree.
I’ve had a wooden brush from TEK that cost me about $30, and has been my favourite ever, and I’m really into brushing my hair.
So I thought that I wanted to level up, and dribbled over the large pure boar brush.
I finally got it today from a very fancy salon, and it cost me 2300kr ($245) thinking that this will be my go-to...
I got to take a look at the brush before I bought it, and thought it looked very plasticy, so I asked the salesperson if it’s real boar.
She had to ask another stylist since she was not sure..
    «Yes, it’s boar» she said
So I paid, excited walking home and tried it at once.
I was dissapointed immidiately by the feel of the bristles. They were scratching my scalp in ways only the broken hairbrushes I own has ever done. Only on all the bristles...
That is because they are cut straight off, and have sharp edges. They did not look anything like my previous boar brushes, they lacked the softness, fluff, flexibility and blonde tips. They have this super shiney look.
And since that was disapointing, I have to pick at something else. The fact that the handle is made of plastic. I’ve gotten cheaper brushes with wood everything and been so happy with the quality!
Another thing is that it doesnt penetrate very good to my scalp, which I was expecting since I’ve got kinda thick hair, but when it does it hurts Dx
Was searching for similar experiences with the brush

I bought one from ebay, after two years the bristles fell apart, maybe it was a fake.
