    Would you say the hard plastic protectors protect a lot better than the fabric ones?

    Do the shorts protect the hip? I keep on falling on the side of my hip, i had a minor injury so could really use some protection there

    I am going to an adult learn to Ice Skate tom and I am 37 and a male. I have a helmet, Butt Pads and knee pads. I haven't been able to find elbow pads or wrist guards for figure skating yet. Would I be ok going without the wrist guards for a lesson or so till I can get some or should I go and get some somewhere no questions asked for tom? Please help.

      Brandon Norris I think you’ll be ok! But I’d definitely try to get some wrist guards. From a lot of adults I’ve talked to it seems like people hurt their wrist due to the fact we usually stick our hands out in front of us when we fall. I’d say see how it goes tomorrow, be aware of the way you fall (if you do fall) and go from there. I don’t wear my wrist guards that much anymore but when your first starting out they are definitely a life saver.

    What should I expect the first day? Anything I should know or any tips or tricks? I have only been on the ice twice in my life in a public skate in hockey skates. I know how to snow ski and I roller bladed and skated a lot when I was younger and I am an equestrian and ride English Doing eventing, Will that help me in skating or help me improve faster? For learn to skate would I be wearing figure skates or hockey ? I am wanting to get in figure skating. Will you be on the ice the first day? Will anyone be able to help me get the correct fitting skate and help me lacing and tying them correctly since I hear there is ways they need laced and tied?

      Bdndogs the first Day can be a little scary, but I think the best tip I can give you is just to concentrate on you and your progress. It’s easy to look over and see someone who skates better then you and get discouraged. Just know everyone starts the same way. And another tip is practice, practice, practice! The only way you’ll get better is by practicing everything you learn in class on your own. I’ve personally never skied before but my dad (who was a hockey player) told me it’s similar to ice skating due to the fact that you use inside and outside edges on skis similar to using edges on the ice. Rollerblading is kind of similar but personally I found rollerblading much harder then ice skating but that’s also because I’ve never really rollerbladed much. With learn to skate you can use either hockey or figure skates but if you want to learn figure skating then I’d definitely put figure skates on now. Figure skates can be a little weird the first time because they have toe picks and longer blades then hockey skates. You want to try learning now rather than getting comfortable in hockey skates and switching over and having to start all over again with figure skates. Every rink is different so I can’t really say what your rink and your coach will do but when I went for my first Learn to skate group lesson we were on the ice the first day. Also with tying your skates, I’d ask a staff member to help you out or if there isn’t anyone around try asking your coach to help you out. I feel that tying your skates is really important because a lot of times you see newer skaters not tightening their skates enough which could then cause your ankles to cave in and it’ll screw you up when it comes down to learning your edges. It could also cause injuries so I’d make sure they are tightened properly. Don’t be afraid to ask your coach for help, even for the slightest things that’s why they are there. Also if you think you’ll be skating a lot then I’d definitely invest in your own figure skates. It can be pricey, but a lot of beginner level skates aren’t to expensive. Sorry this was so long! I hope it helps and I hope you have fun!! I’d love to hear how it goes 😊

      Figure Skating With Alicia How long should i skate in the rentals before I get mine? Should I skate in them tonight and then if all is good buy a pair or skate a month or so or what? I have talked to several people and heard people say Jackson. Is that my best bet? They said if I would get a coach in the future and everything to step up skates and do a little better skate so I don’t have to buy 2 or 3 pair over a year or so. They said the Jackson Fusion. Not a very beginner but not an advanced. Is that a true statement or am I going too high on the skate scale? I haven’t spoke with anyone at the rink yet. It is in a mall and don’t think there are any ice skating stores anywhere near me. Should I buy from the rink? Are they usually knowledgeable enough in figure skate to get me set up correctly or should I go to a figure skating online store and attempt to order?

      Bdndogs i personally think the sooner the better when it comes down to buying skates. So definitely see how tonight goes, and go from there. There is a lot of controversy about whether you should over boot or not. Personally, I did over boot about 2 boot levels then what I was suppose to get. I don’t know too much about Jackson’s, I’ve only really ever skated with Rydell skates. But I have only heard good things about the Jackson’s. It’s hard to say what is the right skate for a specific person because all of us have different feet and find different things more comfortable than others. I would definitely say if you can go and buy your skates at a rink then you should definitely do that. My rink was really helpful when I went in to buy my skates and also they are helpful with the sizing as well because that can be tricky. Are you on Facebook? If you are, join the adult skate too Facebook page. I found it helpful to hear advice from a lot of people which led me to buy my Riddell diamonds which I absolutely love. Everyone on there are really nice and super helpful especially when your starting out.

      Figure Skating With Alicia Just signed up for that. The other thing is if I buy skates What do I need for a bag? I have seen what they call a Zuca bag and seen some other one that you carry over your arm seen people use suitcases and not sure where I should look or what I should look for. Should I order some over the boot tights to wear as a layer to keep me warm and to protect my ice skate boots? I have heard on where I have researched everything of men doing this and have heard others saying no and not sure if it’s a good idea or not. What is your thoughts?

    Hi any tailbone pad for snow board? You should model the stuff. 💕

      I’ve never gone snow boarding so I don’t have knowledge in what protective gear you’d need 😣 Sorry!

      @@FigureSkatingWithAlicia sometimes when your board catches an edge the tailbone hits, sometimes a bit higher, like the lowest back.

      Dani. A lot of adult figure skaters do and a lot of pros use butt pads to practice jumps lol 🤷🏽‍♀️

      Smart people use padding. One unlucky fall and you may end up in a wheelchair forever.

      Figure Skating With Alicia ive been skating since i was 5 , never used pads , and doing doubles sooo , i mean thats me but other people do stuff differently

    • @FigureSkatingWithAlicia
      @FigureSkatingWithAlicia  4 роки тому +8

      Dani. Exactly, everyone does stuff differently. Next time you skate take a look around the rink there are a lot of people that do. I’m not saying it’s mandatory but it’s just safety. I started skating at around 5 too and back then I didn’t use any protection. I’m now 25 and health insurance is verry expensive (I live in the US where we have to pay for health insurance). So by wearing pads and protective gear I’m able to have that extra protection just Incase I take a bad spill. I don’t wear a helmet, and plenty of people at my rink tell me to wear a helmet especially when doing jumps because many of them have fallen and hit there heads on the ice and have had really bad concussion.
