- The word "God" is not found in the original Greek text of this verse - which simply reads "Hereby we know love, because he laid down his life for us." - ASV, etc. etc. etc. This is a reference to JESUS laying down his life, not His Father and our Father and his God and our God (Jn.20:17) laying down HIS life.

Here in proper context Jesus is saying be is God. And then the Jews sought to stone him, as they knew Jesus was saying he is God.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God
Jesus is the "Word" who is with God.
Jesus=Word
And in Genesis 1:6 God says come and let us make man in "our" image, in "our" likeness.
Who do you think the "our" is, in this verse?
Our=Jesus and God
Now how are the 3 different and why, and how do they become 1.
God the Father remained in heaven and no man has seen his face, and then he came to earth in human form as Jesus.
So God the Father's job was to remain in heaven. That is and was the Father's role.
Jesus job was to take physical form so he could minister to the people his message of salvation.
And the spirit of God, the Holy Spirits job, since Jesus ascended to heaven, and God the Father resides in heaven.
God gave men who believe in Jesus his spirit the Holy spirit, to live inside them, and guide them in the ways of the Lord along with the Bible.
The Bible says God Jesus and Holy spirit are 1.

What does the Bible say when 2 get married, they become 1, and a woman is not equal to a man, and a woman is to be obedient to her husband just as the Church is to be Obedient to Christ to God.
