    I repair and redesign ham radios and it is with great pleasure to see you do your work. I am a ham and a scientist with 50 years in the RF world and you are an inspiration to so many I believe.

      Could you design a noise blanker circuit for a 1011d? I have lots of power line noise and can only really use mine on am when it rains

    This is basically a 10/11 meter version of the Swan 350A. Most likely these were targeting the illegal CB market. Great solid radio, and in my opinion underrated. I owned several tube rigs including Drake, and The Swan 350A is my favorite. Solid old rig.

    Back in the early 70s when I got my FCC license I was hired by a CB shop in Atlanta Ga. It was my job to sign off on the radios before they left the shop and also to fix Johnson White Face tube types. I was wondering if you have ever worked on those. Quick story, somewhere in my first week I had just replaced a final and the grid coupling cap and as I turned it on the boss who had been standing behind me holding a 4 foot 2X4 up with his foot on the other end let it go. The bang when that thing hit the floor made me jump completely off my stool and then I had to go home and change underwear. I love your videos. Take a look at mine if you have a few minutes on UA-cam, AERVBlog. Keep up the good work and thanks.

    Mike you read my mind as I've been meaning to ask you for more camera time of tuning through the channels, in this case the band. What you did here please do for your future videos when you finish them. Even if there are no signals, the static sound allows us to hear the difference in receive and just how sensitive the earlier models like Motorola were. Even the click of the switches helps out in making a decision to buy a certain radio. Keep it in mind brother!

    On a lark I bought one of these. Yuck. The old white capacitor(100 35v) on the underside of the 8950 has a burned spot on it and the 4.7 ohm resistor next to it is burned to a nasty crisp. The resistor is clearly toast and I'll have to figure out if the cap is bad...probably is? The rest of the caps are all original but none "look" bad. I'll need to figure out how to test those. I am encourage to see at least two of the caps in you photo appear original. I tried to find caps on the web. Mouser seems to sell them but if I buy all the caps , the down total looks to be a few dimes under $100. Not sure it is worth the time and money it will cost to bring this back to operation.

    Hi Mike i have a 1011D thats needs to be looked at my audio is all garbelled on transmitt (HELP) Rick P Pepperell,Ma

    • @miketaylor2197
      @miketaylor2197 2 роки тому

      Is it garbled on AM? These can difficult to make sound good in that mode. First off, avoid power mics. And keep the mic gain on the radio on between
      9 and 11oclock. Any higher will cause distortion. They are really nice sideband radios but just not the best on AM. They'll never be loud like a Galaxy in that mode because you are basically talking on one of the sidebands with the carrier balance purposely mistuned to insert a carrier. Also on AM,keep the plate current at or below 120ma or you'll cook that expensive 8950 final tube

    Curious if the Comanche 101 1d is a spin off of the Yeasu FT-101 series transievers?.
    Thanks for sharing!
    Kind regards, Eric Dee.

    • @mikesradiorepair
      @mikesradiorepair  5 років тому +3

      No, Siltronix was a spin off of Swan. Swan made the 1011 and apparently the amateur radio community gave them hell because it was obviously a CB radio. The FCC was also none to impressed. They made a spin off company Siltronix to sell this type of product while protecting the Swan amateur radio company.

      @@mikesradiorepairThank you for your reply. Very interesting, that's a really nice looking transceiver. What is the Tube compliment (Finals) for that rig?, and are those radios hard to come by nowadays?.

    • @mikesradiorepair
      @mikesradiorepair  5 років тому +2

      They use a 8950 horizontal deflection tube for the final. I wouldn't say they are hard to find. FInding one in mint condition may be a little hard.
