- Mariya Lasitskene has won the women's high jump gold medal after producing a huge jump of 2.04m in the Olympic final. Lasitskene was the only athlete to clear the mark, with Nicola McDermott of Australia jumping 2.02m to claim silver and Ukraine's Yaroslava Mahuchikh taking the third spot on the podium with 2.00m.
In a nail-biting competition that went right down to the wire, Lasitskene wrested the lead from front-runner McDermott to earn the title of Olympic champion - and the first gold by an ROC track and field athlete at the Games.
It marked a fitting end to what has been a thrilling track and field competition that has seen records broken andsurprises struck and athletes from across the world win the greatest prizes in sport - Olympic gold medals.
This was not Lasitskene's first taste of Olympic glory, 11 years ago, the athlete won gold at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore with a jump of 1.89m. However, this title will represent an even sweeter victory for a bonafide champion who has also won the last three world titles in a row.

I really like watching the awards ceremonies. It's a very emotional part of the olympics. All that hard work and dedication pays off and we get to see the athlete's reactions on the podium.

I am really happy for this gold medal for Maria. The beginning of this season seemed really difficult for her but I find that the Olympic medal is a fair reward for a wonderful multi-year career. The future is probably in Yaroslava's hands and I think she can also think about jumping over 2.09 meters in the seasons to come.

I thought Yaroslava would run Marya down in Tokyo. It looks inevitable because Yaroslava is only 19 but not yet and I'm so glad for ML. Russia had only one track-and-field athlete in the 2016 summer olympic and it should have been this lady not Darya Klishina. Marya may have won gold then too.

@@ESCAPE-2 Bad luck and very unfair because ML in 2016 was the best Russian in track-and-field and she should have been the one to go to Rio. She most likely would have won gold there.

Bravo et encore bravo a mariya lasitskene , ces une sportive que je suis sur tous les tournois sur chaise sportive , depuis 2015 , dommage que en France on est pas des athlètes de cette qualité. sportive de très haut niveau 3 championne du monde 2 fois Europe et la plus belle des médailles olympiques je suis fière pour la Russie , et encore bravo j espère la voire a Paris en 2024 ou en diamon ligue , cordialement de Grenoble , France

Far and away the greatest piece of music being played at the Tokyo Olympics is Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1. It puts to shame the anthems of all the other countries and it is head and shoulders a more moving piece of music than any national anthem. As for Mariya, your reaction to winning brought tears to my eyes and I send you best wishes and my heartfelt congratulations.

IDK, Olympic officials restricted all videos from Tokyo, we had many copyright claims & ultimately many channels were demonetized, including this one... mine... Now I have 2 options: 1. Keep this few videos about Tokyo Olympics (but never be able to monetize my channel again) or 2. Delete them around September 7 and them apply again for monetization...
