Saw them way back in lake placid of course they won. It was awesome. In the time jump off, they turned to an obstacle with one stride and jumped. And these weren't no Junior Hunter fences. If you were in a time jump off against Rodney Jenkins and idle dice only way you can win is if Rodney fell off.
I saw these two win the American Invitational. I don't believe anyone before or since could make those turns over the top of a jump like them. Does anyone know of a video? I sure would like to see it!
The horse was great. But me & many lost all respect for Jenkins. We were at 1 of the t largest outdoor shows. His horse refused a jump. He beat the horse, not a corrective slap. The announcer told him to exit the ring. The ring master walked him out of the ring, He was suspended from the rest of the show. The speculators were yelling at Rodney. They were angry The horse was terrified. The incident was reported in a well known horse magazine. Some riders said he was harsh with his horses. It was about money. Good jumpers sold for more. Believe he was suspended from showing for a time. Being in the horse world, I was horrified by his cruel behavior.
that's very hard to believe. I've known a few people who worked for him and never ever saw anything remotely like that either in or out of the show ring. And being asked to leave the ring and being suspended from the rest of the show or suspended for a time? Very hard to believe. Especially as no one I know who was showing regularly at all the major shows when he was showing ever remembers anything of the sort. What magazine was it reported in? Maybe you have him confused with someone else.
@@pshanaberg Believe it or not. The speculators & other exhibitors were upset. Perhaps researching old news will prove it. Horse people hate seeing this. Yes, it's hard to think a horsrnan would behavelike this. But money is the goal of having good horses. There's been bad behavior within the horse world. Look at the Tennessee Walkers. Abuse. Some Saddlebreds. Racing. I've seen terrible things. Behind the scenes it can be cruel by some people.
@@pshanaberg Me & a hundred others DID NOT make a mistake. I knew the exhibitors of hunter/jumpers. . I was in hunters. As for the article, 50- 60 yrs ago is remembered.? Perhaps Chronical of the Horse. Not sure. I had several. Still do. Believe what you want. Facts are facts.
@@equine2020 I have no trouble believing it about a number of well known H/J professionals, just not him. No, researching old news did not prove it and neither did asking a number of people who were showing at the same shows, watching him regularly at the time, as well as those who knew him well and worked for him. People who worked for him may cover for him behind the scenes but there's no way no one would remember him ever being suspended especially either from the rest of the show or longer, or even being asked to leave a ring. And no one around him regularly believes it either. Comparing Rodney to Tennessee Walkers or Saddlebreds is ridiculous. You've either confused him with someone else or you're just making it up to sound like you know something you don't. If not, it was a complete one off on a really uncharacteristically bad day, but I don't believe it ever happened.
@@equine2020 yeah? who did you ride with? what show was it? sorry, don't believe it. if it ever happened someone I know would remember and not be just as incredulous as I am.
Idle Dice was my favorite Open Jumper for many years and still is in the top five of my all time favs. Very cool horse.
Idle Dice is the game now
Idle Dice and Rodney take my breath away. Truly, "the greatest."
Beautiful. I teared up. Thank you SO MUCH!!!
Absolutely beautiful
Great video Thank you
Love Love Love this horse...I saw him compete at Ox Ridge in Darien CT so many times with Rodney Jenkins - what a partnership!!!
This by far was my favorite every year at Devon. Just amazing! Thank you
I was lucky enough to see them at the Chagrin PHA show and z Rodney do hunters on the outside course at the same show: wonderful ❤❤❤😬😬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍
What a hero! I had the privilege of schooling him when I rode with Buddy! What a total thrill as a young girl!
I was lucky to see him at the Garden in NY back in the eighties. Love this horse,
My favorite jumper team of all time! I used to love watching them...
Really beautiful! A real star!
By the way, at 2:47 : that's The natural, a great star, too.
Fabio Fasciolo Thanks! And thanks for the correction!

I miss the old TB jumpers like him!
my favorite as well, do you think there will ever be a team as great as those two again?
I've seen better & I'm in the hunter/jumper arena.

So did I ! The only time I hooked school. Devon was marvelous for a horse mad girl, especially before they closed the barns.

Donna, if you find one, please tag me!!!
Me too!
I saw him jump I think, 7'4", in MSG.
There out there. We just don't give Thoroughbreds a chance like we used to
Says who? I have thoroughbreds. I foxhunt.
See many in the ring, & on the hunt field.
For the love of a horse
saw r.j. school him many times
