Today we hear a Combat Story with former Navy SEAL Joel McGuire, who completed multiple combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, in addition to deployments to Europe and South America over a 20 plus year career. We were introduced to Joel when scheduling an upcoming interview with Sam Mackey, another SEAL. Sam was deployed with Joel and we’ll have a combat story with both individuals together talking about a few of their battles they fought in.
In this episode, Joel goes into detail about his multiple attempts to finally get through BUD/S, his battlefield experiences, managing short-term memory loss, sleep deprivation, and emotional challenges of losing close-knit community members in action. Joel also talks through the challenges of Maritime Interdiction Operations (or MIO), which many have likely seen in the news recently as an MIO tragically claimed the lives of two Navy SEALs in the past month, and it’s helpful to better understand what goes into these operations and what makes them so risky.
With that, please enjoy this conversation with Joel McGuire, a tough old frogman (stay tuned for a future episode for our joint interview with Joel and his fellow SEAL, Sam)!

I was in Class 194 with Joel and he was a class act through and through. He was/is thoroughly and very much respected by all of us who were in Corps school and/or training with him.
Thank you so much for allowing such a high class individual to tell his story on your show, Ryan. The community needs more people like Joel in their ranks.

Joel, put plainly, is one of the finest leaders I’ve ever worked with. He’s a frogman to his core. Important note: he’s 1/3 comanche, 1/3 Mexican 1/3 Irish, but 100% Texan.

Ryan... The editing of this one with the transitions from speaker to speaker helps us hard of hearing. Thank you for this method. I hope you continue to produce these videos in this style. I know its not always possible. Your efforts are valued

Not this interview. So dry, slow, and terrible conversation with minimal effort on his part. Good to put you to sleep though

    • @michaelrobbins9679

@@DoctorDiz I might disagree. Not everyone is as energetic as you might like. This gent might come off as ho hum. In the mix I'm sure he was not as you might surmise. Calm cool. Collected.
This does not discount that Ryan and this page needs a bit of an uplift to reach the goal. I sure do not get a damn dime for saying this.

I don't think the dry interview is Ryan's fault on this one. The guy he is interviewing is just dry. Ryan has some of the best interviews I've ever seen.

Families don't have much to do with it if a person wants to serve. At 18 you can enlist in the military and serve whether your family thinks they can 'allow it' or not. Neither of my parents wanted me to enlist. They were completely against it, and even tried to 'forbid' me from doing so. I enlisted anyway and spent 12 years in the Army. Not sure why you think family has to allow it..

I’m a huge fan of the channel. I’ve got a couple of feedback on the audio. The metal surface next to you reflects the heck out high frequencies. You need a few materials like cloths around the room to suck up the high frequencies and make your voices less harsh. Feed back two is keep eating for another time 😂. It’s hard to pay attention at the sound of nuts cracking in your mouth. Thank you both for your service!

Hey. Just new to this channel as non military and find it both inspiring and eye opening. Ive been binge watching many of these stories with inspiration and awe.I want to ask a question which I hope you s don't find offensive? If you, as a representative of your country, but brother to your team, were asked to lie for one of your fellow men you had served with for years. Who you had fought side by side with, risked your life for, would you cover for them? I only ask this, as it seems to be a common re occuring theme throughout all of these soldiers lives and stories? Is it something expected of you? Regardless of what you brother in arms has committed. How far does loyality go in comparison with morality? I'm genuinely interested. Thankyou

lol it’s crazy how much navy seals are all over UA-cam. Not hating or anything it’s just really strange to see compared to what I’m use to from my time in the Marine Corps it was such a secret.

Sound shouldn't be an issue at this point. Dynamic mics are the wrong tool for this set up. Sure SM7B's will keep you from sounding like uou're in a well. Some baffles in the corners of the room do deaden the room wouldn't hurt and keep the mics a fist distance from your mouth. If your going to keep these mics you have to "eat the mic" to get the best performance. That means mouth ON the mic.
