- Hey Horse Lovers! Kyle and I went to a small, Holiday Horse Sale over The Weekend. This auction was located in Ohio at Jones Livestock. There were about 20 horses at this sale. I was interested in a few so we will see what happens. I’ll also be showing you all of the horses, talking about what I see, and showing you the prices they sold for. I'm a junior in high school, my dream is to work with horses one day. It's hard to talk about my dream because people belittle me for it. They tell me I won't make any money or I won't be able to afford a horse. Your videos always inspire me and keep that dream alive inside me. Whenever you go to the auction I'm always taking notes, it's so much fun and such a good adventure. I have been watching you for 2 years now. Thank you for being my rock of encouragement.
And I would get good grades in school because horses are expensive and without a good education you won’t have the money to pursue your dream.

Buzz’es Buddy - my heart!! I really like when you share your thoughts and experiences. I think many can learn from it. I am glad that at these horse auctions there aren’t really horses in a rough shape. The other horse you saw at the other auction - it would have been right my alley! Also the gaited smaller Paint Horse. I love gaited horses! 😊 The Haflinger might have been a great lesson horse - but only without health concerns. It’s great they actually call out concerns in the ring.

Do you ever watch Horse Shelter Heroes on UA-cam? Just last week they rescued 14 Belgians at the auction. They seem to come across the drafts a lot in TN.

@@freespiritequestrian I respect that lucky I wasn't there I would have caved... I don't need any more horses right now. I'm busy one of mine broke out and got hurt in wire. He is lucky ok and is making a good recovery . The wire was lucky new and not rusty I don't know how he was able to get caught in it. It's a mystery... oh and love your vidos!
This video is SO important and crucial. The videos where you buy horses are heart-warming and feel-good and I love them. But the videos where you DON'T also model something very important in horse-care.
(I'm preaching to the choir here, but this is more for the people who have trouble understanding your decision regarding Buzz's buddy.)
Sometimes, loving and caring for horses means NOT buying them. It means respecting the commitments you've already made to the horses you've bought previously (or respecting the gravity of the commitment by not making it before you're ready). It means evaluating your resources in a realistic way. Caring for and rehabilitating horses is, ironically, about choosing NOT to buy/rehabilitate most of the horses you meet. Even when it's hard and it hurts, as it did with this pony. Thank you for posting about this openly and being so principled. You're setting a great example of responsible horse-care!

Thanks for taking us to another auction, I always have fun looking along with you 😆, but when I saw buzz’s little buddy still there ugh 🥺. The pali was gorgeous! And I loved the white one that was in the outer pens, I’m a sucker for white animals, I used to have a white horse who was a paint, appy, qh cross. He was named Casper ❤ Looking forward to your next video! Btw, I loved loved loved the saddle you bought!!

Hi Shae, love the saddle. I also t loved the Arabian yearling. I have a soft spot for Arabians, even though they are high strung. I fell in love with that Palomino. That paint was a cutie too. I hope Buzz’s Buddy finds a forever home. I think it’s important that when you decide something you stick to it. It better then being wishy washy. I understand why you won't buy Buzz's pony friend, you've explained your reasoning several times and I respect your decision. Also, Buzz has a new family and new friends. His old friend would be a distraction he doesn't need if he is to become the pony you know he can be. He'd depend on his friend and not you or his new friends. Does that make sense?

Got a question for you Shae - when you sell your horses do you sell them with a “right of first refusal” if they want to sell them in the future?
Sometimes gated horses are not forward Movers and they can make great beginner Rider horses or extra horses. A horse that's not too mutton withered and thick through the back where the saddle slips. A Rocky Mountain and other gated just not a hot horse.
I’m well aware I have a gaited horses and he’s slow. Much more woah than go. But honestly he’s a little to slow sometimes haha.
So much better, maybe a little hand sanitizer in your pocket and if you have to go in the mouth you sanitize and maybe wash your hands or something. Very nice. And you look great. Wash your hands with a bottled water. Nice video thank you

It’s ok you don’t have to like every horse breed
I think they are all wonderful and beautiful but there are just some breeds I prefer more than others haha
I'm thinking about going to the Shipshewana auction to see and experience those types of things

Yes they do go to horse slaughter often. Two of my horses came from a legit slaughter lot, one only hours from shipping. He is a 4 yr old beautiful blanket app. I know for a fact that this lot travels all over the us weekly buying up horses at auctions for slaughter and ships horses to Mexico weekly. His next load goes out tomorrow night
Are you from the US? If so we don’t have actual slaughter lots in the US because we don’t slaughter in this country. If you mean a Kill Pen then they are just scamming people with their system and in return people that buy and “save” horses from them are just funding their system and lining their pockets with more money to go buy more horses then more horses actually do go to slaughter. I don’t support or ever buy from kill pens for that reason. I am aware horses go to slaughter I literally said that but what I was referring to is that every horse that goes for cheap at an auction doesn’t just automatically go to a meat buyer, they mostly to to flippers. It's OK to be a "color snob." We all have preferences. Color can be associated with a breed, such as Appaloosa or Morgan, and then the selection becomes a breed and not necessarily on color. Personally, I won't own a bay because the last bay I had didn't end well and I don't want a reminder. He was a color and a breed because he was purebred Morgan. I still like Morgans only no bays. Selection is entirely up to the owner. Your preference for Appies - is it color or breed or both?

Such higher end auctions will also ward off meat buyers. In the less "classy" sales, meat buyers and horses going for meat is a really big reality. 😐

It's too bad that you're so against bays sorrels etc You were turning down. The absolutely wonderful horses purely for color. I find that really disgusting. Yes, we all have our favorite colors. But to dismiss a horse. Purely on its color, I just don't understand that. to me it means you're not serious about this. You're just looking for a quick buck on a flashy horse.
Sorry I’m being honest and I like what I like? I think they are wonderful horses but I prefer color and that’s okay. Just like people like certain breeds of horses, I like certain colors.

@@freespiritequestrian Well, I'm a boomer. If the generation that produced the boomer generation had taken that same outlook towards having kids, the demographics of the US would have cratered starting in 1946. Instead there was always room for another one and families got by pretty well.
A little runt like that pony would be pocket change to take on. My concern is as they had already been shipped up from New Mexico, he might get passed on to another sale and wind up on a one-way trip to Canada.

There is so much that goes into ownership and having the “there is always room for one more” mindset doesn’t show attention to detail or dedication to each individual horse. Do you know how much money goes into each new horse? Generation has nothing to do with responsible horse ownership. I also bought a small pony from this auction a couple weeks prior and can’t take on another small pony.
@@DoubleDogDare54 this also displays how you aren’t aware of maintenance ponies require, pocket change? The purchase price is NOTHING. It’s all of the EQUINE wellness that’s expensive. Massage, chiro, dental, feed, vetting, myofascial release, sure foot pads, farrier, training, hay, tack, saddle fitting, supplements, salt blocks, equipment, shavings, insurance, etc. that’s definitely not pocket change.

I hate that you judge based off of color. I know it sounds a bit selfish or snobby, but color doesn’t matter. What truly matters is their personality and attitude. Not color.
I agree with you! A good horse is a good horse regardless of color! I just prefer colored horses and that’s okay :).
And to be clear I do not judge based off color!!!! I look at everything. I’m just stating that when I buy horses I personally prefer color (along with everything else that’s important). Everyone is allowed to have preferences (breed, color, whatever the case may be).

It’s funny how I’ve been watching all of these videos. When I was in middle school I rode my aunts horse. She’s like an older sister. We had fun. Now my granddaughter is very fascinated by them. She’s 6. She’s taken a few lessons. These videos give information that we talk about on the phone. Thanks Shae. I’m certain you never thought a 74 yo grandmother would be a fan. It’s really cool.

It’s not just that it’s better for buzz, every single horse or pony requires money, time, and effort. I don’t want two smaller ponies and the effort they require is even more than a larger horse.

No. I only buy from auctions because I mow the risks and have the skills to handle this type of situation. If you’re looking for a specific horse or something safe, sound, ready to go then private sale is the way to go.
I was born Horse Crazy and look into their eyes and feel what they are thinking. I'm in Washington State and here I would have to pay $30 just to go riding. I wish you 2 needed a cheap Work Handcuz I work just to be around the horses. My dream was to be around them all my life. Thanks for what you do for them.
Are you going to find your Hubby a horse soon? Your doing a great job ❤. With a place to stay I would volunteer for brushing and stall duty.

Nothing wrong with being a "color snob". I totally agree. I love the paint horses, all of them. Whether you call them paint, pinto, piebald, gypsy, or whatever, they are so beautiful.
Im the total opposite, I’m team bays for days and don’t really like colored horses 😅My mare is the definition of what I like, blood bay without any markings!!!! That what’s great about horses, there’s something for everyone!
