  • In 2019, the Conservative Party promised to end section 21 notices -- orders that allow landlords to evict tenants without giving a reason.
Since then, according to the charity Shelter, almost a million private renters have been forced to move under the orders.
Sky News understands that the Renter's Reform Bill will be back in the Commons next week.

She asked her landlord to "compromise" on rent when landlords NEVER can ask a Gov't to "compromise" on taxes

Thankfully, here in New Zealand, the new National government has seen the light and reinstating 90 day no cause evictions after the Landlord hating outgoing Labour government abolished it.

No fault or non payment of rent

Quite right, the property belongs to the landlord, and they're the ones who get to say who can reside there or not.
Funny we have a society where all ab*rtions are 'no fault', but I don't see anyone trying to ban them.
People seem to want something for nothing, and don't expect to pay a market rate for a rental, but expect the government to subsidise it or provide them housing for free.

S21 is like a no fault divorce, it can save a lot of grief. If S21 "no fault" evictions are abolished then other grounds will be used such as non payment of rent or anti-social behaviour. That could make it more difficult to tenants to be re-housed and increase homelessness. Not that Shelter gives a toss about tenants, of course.

This problem stems from the fact that the government stopped building adequate affordable housing, and now mortgages are completely unaffordable for first-time buyers. Making people dependant on private landlords with forever increasing rents (not always in line with inflation). I'm not saying ban section 21. However, no fault evictions due to rent increases (above normal inflation) should be illegal. Also the 2 month notice period should be increased.

We've moved 10 times during covid... lived in hotels, trailers, couch surfing, and apartments because we lost our jobs when covid started. We did UberEATS deliveries in the heat in Vegas and worked odd jobs despite my husband's early onset Parkinson's, which he got diagnosed with in 2018 (we've moved a lot because of that, top. 16 times since 2018 total). Our lease is almost up at our apartment and we're not sure what our next move is. But we didn't stay in one spot when it all started because we knew rent would add up even if they did put a pause on it. Sucks, but it's life.

Landlords have bills to pay and they don't have all these squatter assistance programs to help them out so evict them.

Landlords should be able to evict tenants for any reason. They own the property and there is so many reasons to need someone out.
