OK so a ringer on top of a ringer cancels out the ringer but what if the first guy throws a non ringer in point range and the second guy lands on top also in point range, does the second guy cancel out the first guy and get the single point? also if you throw both your shoes in pointt range do you get 2 points or just 1 for the closest one? also where do you stand when pitching? behind the steak? one foot behind? both feet behind?
Yes, the throwing distance (foul line to opposite stake) is 37 feet. Page 9 at this link -www.horseshoepitching.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/RGS2021BookletLayout.pdf
A live shoe that is not a ringer, but comes to rest six inches (6”) or closer to the stake, has a value of one (1) point. This includes a “leaner”. - www.horseshoepitching.com/rules/PlayingRules.html
yeah but can't we get a campfire going..music..a picnic and table? Oooh! "I" throw them up HIGH in order to land a ringer! -is that right? We sure did Love it out in Apache Junction/The Mtn/'Arizona/Superstition!/ RV Parks! oooh a Clinger! a Mtn Climber! a Hitch to The Pitch! yeah..you GET comments like this sometimes LAUGHING!
Thanks for posting this. I played Walter Ray's brother at Calico. I got the Cowboy. We founded the Fontana Horsehoe Club back in the 80s. Great fun.
I first saw Walter Ray pitch back in the early eighties.

They only cancel if the shoes are two different players. You can't cancel your own shoes out.
So how big is the pit box ? 3 by 3 ? Leaving the 37 ft throw?

I was always told a leaner counts as two points so is that not true?

Bowler, and now, horseshoer. The legend that is WRWJ.
He was a horseshoe player well before he started bowling.
What about the 2-point leaner when the shoe is leaning on the post. Now let's go you putz!!!

Should be titled, "How to score horseshoes", there is not one word about pitching.
