I spent hours and hours playing this as a kid and I had no idea how to play it but I remember really liking it.

This was one of my favorite games for the VCS as a kid. You definitely had to read the manual.

The other thing I do is try to get the best time while bringing all 9 treasures to the end, the Temple of Ra. That means getting the two special treasures from Isis, (17:01 and 35:58) and going back for another key to replace the tablet as well as replace the offerings I used like Ankh and Crown. Unfortunately, they let you score points for shooting robbers, so you can do it until you get tired. They should have made it so it's just positive points for treasures minus points for hits on the good guys (Pitfall did it right).

OK. Went back to try to beat those scores. Just got 3 min, 35 seconds! Could get better if I go with 2 tablets to the Sphinx instead of 3 and get lucky. (3 min 20 sec).

2 Minutes, 54 seconds with PERFECT PLAY: Got Scepter (Chariot) in 2 seconds (multiple resets required) which let me breeze across the map, and got the needed items from Nomad Traders (and a little digging) so I could give donations when I came to the buildings. Also, I only got two Tablets, but one was correct so could pass the Sphinx without backtracking (other than at the start).
That's actually better than my best game 2 time of 3 minutes, 2 seconds I did in January! So I'll have to do that one again, too!
