I think I’m pretty good at picking winners and even better at picking opening odds for the majority of fights, especially the big fights. I thought this fight would open at around Gane -160 and I thought it would go even further in Gane’s direction as it got closer to the fight. Gane was being hailed as the new breed of heavyweights and for good reason, he’s a freak. Jones lost to Reyes at 205!! I really don’t buy that Jones wasn’t motivated, I cannot bank on that or put my money on that storyline. A younger Gane who is the future of the heavyweight division or an older Jones who goes on benders and lost to mediocre 205’ers 3 years ago

Jones has always mauled or finished guys he rematches with and Reyes and Santos are shells of themselves since their jones fight. They never replicated the success they had before and during their fight with Jones afterward.
I think Gane gives Jones problems on the feet but I think we'll see the oblique kicks come out and a more wrestle-heavy performance from Jones. Won't be easy given how big Gane is, but I think Jones just has levels better ground game and will employ that here. Just saw him take down a dude that looked 300+ in the countdown video and while takedown defense can matter majorly for staying up, Jones looks like he has the strength to get Gane down. I just can't imagine Gane fairing well in that department with such a short time to adjust if Francis with two bad knees was taking Gane down.

I think Jon Jones has a kink for cages, and he has a habit of paying off USADA like Floyd Mayweather jr has throughout his career. Jon Jones would rather spend some time overnight in a holding tank at a police station than attending his own HOF induction. That shows his greatness, and his need to be in the cage. Also, he has been sober for over a year now which makes him a great man compared to guys like Daniel Cormier, and Cyril Gane who have never done drugs in their life, and consistently behave like grown adults with families to take care of. We like our favorite athletes to be screwed up party animals for some reason. If you're a good guy like Cyril Gane, or Daniel Cormier, and you don't lie, cheat, steal, or abuse substances, that makes you weak somehow, and not as likeable from the public. I remember when people thought that Evander Holyfield could never beat Mike Tyson, especially after Tyson got out of prison. People believed that because Holyfield was a church going momma's boy, he couldn't stand up to a chaotic and unstable Mike Tyson. Look how those fights turned out. Tyson fans are still making excuses for those losses against Holyfield. I guarantee if Jon Jones loses to Gane, the Jon Jones fans will use as many excuses as Jon Jones will during his post-fight press conference, if he even attends that press conference. If Jon Jones loses against Gane, he will go on a 5 day coke/alcohol binge, get himself in huge trouble, and end up in jail trying to make bail. That's how mentally fragile Jon Jones really is.

Like, in the anglosphere and particularly the USA, it's usual and even expected to brag about how hard you're working, self-advertise, etc. But in French culture, it's just not. Even if you're working at it, it's basically considered the "normal" ammount and nothing too special.
And people are going to ego-check you all the time : Professors, for example. You can ace an exam, they aren't ever EVER going to give you full mark, but instead find something to nitpick and substracts 1 or 2 points. Just to say "Here, you've got still a margin to progress"

I think it's largely that the MMA world hasn't been exposed much to french fighter yet, unlike say, Russian or Daghestani for a stereotype to form. (And it's normal, MMA barely just got legalized in france) But for the closest equivalent, you can kinda see a similar attitude in George St Pierre too. He never bragged, and if anything, he underplayed his work.
A layer of this is just Gane own personnality, of course, but culture is big factor here
