He still looks completely adorable but I hear you. Once I get a bee in my bonnet about something, no matter how small and seemingly insignificant that detail might be, it is so difficult to move beyond it. You know that no one else will notice, but YOU’LL notice each and every time you lay eyes on it 😖
I either go into ‘chuck it in the bin’ mode, as you said 😂 or I go into full-blown ‘I-shall-NOT-be-beaten-😤‘ mode and re-do everything from scratch. Either scenario, not ideal for a peaceful afternoon of ami making 😅
That yarn colour though 🥰 such a beautiful, warm, bear-perfect brown.

Hello! Thank you so much for your kind words about my version of Emily The Rabbit from The Cute Crochet Animals book and that you enjoy watching my episodes - I REALLY appreciate it! ;-D Curious about the bear's head! To get the shaping for the rabbit, I did have to add in some stitches to pull in the face, which I only saw on the author's UA-cam and wasn't in the book, but I don't think as you say, that will give you the bear head shape you're after.
IDEA: Regarding the teddy head - rather than chucking it, you could turn it into a keyring or decoration with a ribbon and leave it somewhere as a Random Act of Crochet Kindness? I'm sure someone would absolutely love it.

I'm going to have to head over to the designer's youtube channel, to hopefully get some tips before attempting the bunny. But that bear head...not sure I have the strength to even make it into a keychain (although that is a very clever idea 😍)

I loved watching this video, as always, I must say. The funny thing is when my husband heard the intro he was like "Oh, you're watching the bear lady again, aren't you?" 🤣 I'm currently workin on a huge triangle shawl which I have almost finished and somewhere in the middle I realized that this color changing yarn just isn't my colour palette... Well, it will be the Christmas present for my boss because it is totally her style, so nothing goes to waste here. Plus I have made some small pop-it amigurumi which is so much fun!
I have truly accomplished my crochet mission if I am being recognized as the 'bear lady' 🐻❤️ Love it!

I'm usually fairly happy with how most of my amis turn out, even if they sometimes have a degree of 'pattern dysmorphia' (this is my new favourite term 😁). But poor ol' flat face...An entire series of extreme makeover won't help him 😅

When I get a new book I like to write the patterns im interested in each on an index card with the name of the book and materials list. I out all the cards into a box and pull a random card to choose my next project.
That's a very good idea, I might have to start doing something like that 😁

Btw you and I are on the same wavelength again…. I was struggling with indecision for a bear pattern and I on the other hand almost finished the entire enormous pattern 😞😭I saw the doom coming but I powered on and urrrrrrgggghhhh I am so upset with myself for wasting good yarn and precious time. I wll never make this pattern again. 😝

No, in the book the shaping looks great from the side. I will have to watch some of this designer's UA-cam videos to see how she shapes the heads of her toys. The bear's head is still in time-out, but at least I haven't chucked in the bin...yet. The bear lover in me just cannot give up on it quite yet 🐻💕

Hi Carina 💕 Luckily I've not yet thrown the bear head in the bin, and a lovey is quite a good idea. Currently the bear head is just staring at me from my desk, but I think I owe it to the poor thing to try and rescue it somehow 😅

There is sadly no angle that would improve that poor bear's head 😅

One of my most successful bears was the one from the book Dress up Amigurumi.
I'm definitely going to have a look at her videos, I think that will help 💕
I wonder if you could turn the bunny head into a bear using the bear ears 🤔. I really enjoyed the bear in her woodland book I made, but I agree I prefer a round head instead of flat heads. I'm not good at shaping heads with indents etc. I am so excited to see your next pattern in Crochet Now! You did so good on that reindeer, I just love him! It was so fun seeing Sunny in this month's issue 👏🏻🎉 I love the little mouse and I can't decide which one I like the most. I really love the big bow on the grey ones head. I think things like that just make them even more adorable. The brown one was so super cute too and she does have ballerina vibes! A quick question about the CAL. When we do a pattern from the book and submit a picture, can we do one that's already been submitted or is it as the patterns are made. For instance, if we wanted to the whale could we still do that? Or if we wanted to the cow and it hasn't been done yet do we wait until you show it to submit? I hope that makes sense, I have a hard time forming my thoughts sometimes 😂 I'm waiting on my library to let me borrow it as it's all checked out, but I'm hoping I can get one made soon! 🤗

About the cal, you can submit a photo for any project that we've done so far, even if we've moved on to another project already. If you want to make a project that hasn't been picked yet, then I'd please ask to keep the photo until someone who receives the book, pick that pattern, then send it to me 😁

Cassandra, you always come up with the best designs. I agree that you need to publish a book. I can't decide which mouse I like best and the same for the bears. I have bought 3 books in the last week and one is the Whimsical Stitches. Working on the Tulip...along with about 5 other critters that are in pieces in bags. Start-itis is my middle name!! Love your Mouse, she is do cute. I'm making Gringe by Tatiana Kostochenkova. It's quite a challenge as it's uses modeling wire and you have to crochet around it. I'm sure the end result will be worth it but ... let's just say, I won't make another one 😅

How strange! I was just watching Emma Varnum on UA-cam before watching yours, when you mentioned her name and book. I actually like the shape of the bears head from her book, it just makes a nice change from the usual shapes.

Aww Cassandra… I’ve made that bear and yes I had the same issue although putting in lots of shaping did help. When I get pattern indecision I go through and reorganise my patterns and usually get inspired (but I print them & put them into files). Your mouse is adorable 🥰

Too funny! I sent the pattern link before I watched the whole video and it’s the same bear! Lol Great minds think alike 😁 I am making her elephant now and she uses some techniques I have never seen. Such a talented designer
I have great respect for designers, because I know the amount of effort it takes to design even a simple pattern. And definitely, learning new techniques are always a bonus!
Thanks for sharing the bear head it made me laugh because I felt your pain. I made the bunny for my grand daughter and the overalls and she absolutely loves him but there are a couple of things in her patterns like how she sees on the heads and ears that I didn’t care for but I still bought her Wild Animals one as well. I also made the mouse
I will have to give the pattern a go again at some point. After a few days away from the flat head, I decided that I can't just leave the poor thing like that forever 😅

I do tweak the odd pattern but never from scratch. I’m going to find a way to get the magazine with your pattern, do you think they sell in Canada? I hope so. Your crocheting skills are really very good, and I am certain you will absolutely be able to design a pattern. Start with something small (perhaps I will even go as far as to dare you to design a pattern...😉). If you design something, I can be one of your first testers 😁💕

I’ll write some ideas down and we shall see what happens, the hard part is making sure no one else has made it, and trying not to make it similar to others so they don’t think it’s their pattern but a few things were changed. Because the last thing I want is to make someone feel like I did that.

Hi! I have an idea on how to know which book to make something from... Write the name of each pattern book on a separate piece of paper, fold them up, put the papers in a bowl, draw one, and the one you draw is the book you have to make something from! If you're not sure which one to make from that book, number each pattern, have one of your kids say a number between 1-?, and that's the one you have to make! 😅
I love your creations, they are all adorable (except for maybe the one that ran into the cupboard😅).
That's a great idea for choosing which pattern to make. I've seen some channels who do something like that, and I really like seeing what they pick and then make.
I've now started calling that poor bear 'Flat Face Freddy' in my head 🤣🤣 Poor thing. Perhaps I'll try him again sometime in the future, but shape his muzzle differently right from the start.
