Sune

    The Danish soldiers did not fight well at all. Pretending that the danish gave the germans a fight is hysterical. The danish forces barely put up any resistance and because of this, they were the country with the quickest defeat in ww2. The Danish soldiers did not fight like this in the instruction video, they barely formed a frontline. Let's not even pretend that they didn't surrender after a mere 2 hours. Many countries with similar situations and even worse situations than Denmark fought longer and harder. All of this said it does not discredit the modern military of today but the military at the time of WW2 was pathetic.

      It was the politicians who surrendered and it was the politicians who had starved the military of resources in the years up to the war. Even when it was obvious that the Germans were going to invade, the government refused to issue mobilisation orders, and the military was forbidden from leaving its barracks. It's no wonder that they stood no chance. The military, however, did not want to surrender, and blaming the military for the faults of politicians is wrong. General Prior, in charge of the army, wanted incessantly to continue the fight. The King didn't want to surrender either. The decision to surrender drove many officers mad and to depression. It drove General Prior to an early death. It also drove many disappointed officers to either join the SS or the resistance. The resistance was largely led by by officers in what has been dubbed the 'small general staff'.
      Its easy to sit in front of the computer and criticize men, who were put in an impossible situation. You should blame P. Munch, Alsing Andersen, the whole Social Liberal Party, and to an extent Thorvald Stauning for the 9th of April. You should not blame the soldiers. What could these soldiers have done? They fought on until the learned that the government had surrendered, which means that most units in Jutland continued to fight for six or eight hours. I know of an anecdote from the garrison in Holbæk: the colonel commanding the artillery regiment there learned that the government had surrendered, but refused to obey. He ordered his artillery into position, he ordered his men to be ready to meet the Germans, and then he took a bicycle and cycled out to the coast to see, if any English warships were approaching. After some time he had to concede that the English weren't coming. He went back to barracks, he and the rest of the officers accepted the inevitable and the men present were all either foaming with anger or crying, because they felt that their fatherland and their army had been dishonoured. One of the men present was C.P. Kryssing, who became so embittered that he joined the SS, and ended the war as a Major-General and the highest-ranking foreigner in German service.

      @@gustav331 Lmao im not reading that huge rant mate. If you are going to argue about the battle being impossible go for it ofcourse it was impossible just like it was impossible for the Norwegians, the polish, the list goes on that does not mean anything. The main point is that the soldiers who actually fought the ones on the frontline 9th of April got absolutely butchered. The danish army didnt fight good its as simple as that. Whoever you want to blame for that ruckus is up to you that does not change how bad the soldiers fought.

      @@trollpikken6907 That video is not an attempt to defend Denmark's war effort in general. It is obvious that if everyone put up as little resisstance as Denmark we might all have been under German nazi rule today. The historian is only talking about the few hundred Danish soldiers who fought the Germans for 3-4 hours near the border. He thinks that these soldiers fought well. The local German commander also said so. And they were not even allowed to dig trenches by the government, som they fought under difficult circumstances.

    • @trollpikken6907
      @trollpikken6907 4 роки тому +2

      @@ForsvaretDanmark "not allowed to dig trenches" Many were told not to resist, Polish, Norwegian, French. Many were told to not do this and that yet still military officers, Police officers, resistance members defied those orders and Fought. I don't know of a local german commander that thought the soldiers fought well as the other lad pointed out most of them were embarrassed and deeply depressed due to them not even fighting at all. It was the quickest capitulation in WW2 history. They didn't even last a day, I guess the Commander said so wanting the people to comply? I don't mean to step on Denmarks toes its Military is much more impressive and well trained today. But a lot of people out there tend to overly brag about certain "Mighty resistance" as they do in this comment thread. There are many things Danes did that you should rightfully be proud about. For example the attempt to rescue the Jewish population which you did extremely well compared to other nations(Although many of them did not understand what was coming). Still, more Danes died fighting in the SS than died fighting the SS. It is not surprising that you see a Rise of Nazism and Alt-right extremists in the Scandinavian countries today. Denmark got it easy and did not really resist we should emphasise the good things that Denmark did not try to overly brag about the "great danish resistance" and rather remember all the heroes that truly did resist.

      @@ForsvaretDanmark Also if I understand the translation correctly "this is how the Danish soldiers fought 9 April 1940" If they were not allowed to dig trenches why are you representing a video of how they fought with them digging trenches. This just spreads historical inaccuracies.
