Medicare Supplement Insurance Company Ratings • Medicare Supplement In...
So, you have found the right Medicare supplement plan, but which insurance company should you go with? How do you research Medicare supplement insurance companies? Which is the best Medicare supplement insurance company in your area?
Of all the decisions that must be made when starting Medicare, choosing the wrong insurance company will have the greatest negative impact on your lifetime Medicare costs. More so than which Medicare supplement plan you choose.
In fact, choosing the wrong Medicare supplement insurance company can result in your paying more than twice the premium over your lifetime than you would pay for the exact same benefits with the right company.
How do you research a Medicare supplement insurance company?
When I decided to make a video on researching an insurance company the first thing became apparent was that there is simply too much information to share for one video. That is why this is number two in a three-part series. The first video goes over the number one most common mistake I see people make. It’s a mistake that almost always results in a bad decision, which is why there is an entire video on the subject.
The second thing I realized is that no matter how often I try to steer people toward the right way to research an insurance company, unless I go over what not to do, they always revert to tangents that are not relevant to a Medicare supplement insurance company.
Can you imagine spending days if not weeks on your research only to find out what you are researching isn’t relevant to your Medicare? I want to help you avoid that mistake.
That is why this video is going to focus on what not to do, and why. Where have others gone wrong in their research that corners themselves into a bad decision. Once you know what not to do and why, learning where to focus your energy will be a breeze.
I must stress my strong disagreement with some of my competitors and friends on UA-cam that trigger your emotions so that you fear price increases. There are videos that show outrageous price increases on certain plans. What is not said or shown is that they are using price increases from small, second or third tier insurance companies. Companies that I avoid and would never recommend to a client. They are scary price increases for sure but are not representative of industry averages or norms.
Your Medicare decisions should be based on logic, not emotion. On Knowledge, not fear. And on the truth, not deception. Do not let anyone scare you out of a supplement plan that may be right for you.
The simple truth is that price increases over time are influenced more by the insurance company you choose to manage your Medicare supplement plan, than by the supplement plan itself.
The answer is simply that in general, you should expect that the more benefits a plan offers, the higher the average annual price increases over time. For example, a Medicare supplement Plan F should increase in price at a faster rate than Medicare supplement Plan G, which in turn should increase at a rate faster than Medicare supplement Plan N and so on.

I found your videos very helpful & easy to understand when I first became eligible in January 21. Glad I called you guys & got my plan G through your services. Your staff member who helped me was first rate. Thanks again Matthew.
Thank you William. You can always reach out to us if we can help with anything
Called your office today-right before Christmas. Jordan proved very helpful and knowledgeable. Due to actions I took before I called your office- she could not offer direct assistance, yet she provided extensive, fact based information pertinent to what’s best for me. Wish I had called earlier!
We wish you had too! I am glad we could help.
I appreciate all of your videos. It is so important to study like a college degree. Informed decisions are what will lower insurance costs for everyone. Your guidance is wonderful. I have easily put in 120 hrs learning the ins and outs of Medicare.
Having all that knowledge now I was hoping you could answer these questions for me?
(1) Have you decided which path you should take?
(A) Staying with Original
Medicare and supplementing
with a Medigap plan.
(B) Selecting a Medicare
Advantage plan. Do you
know what your Maximum
Outofpocket would be for
this plan for both in and
out-of Network services?
(2) After deciding, do you know how hard or easy it would be to change your mind later?
(3) If you have any health issues that could be considered “pre-existing conditions”, what, if any, impact would that make on your decision?
Appreciated your description of the 3 pricing criteria. Depending on the state as well as what the insurer chooses can dictate the expense of your supplement. I also appreciated you pointing out that the benefits are standardized by Medicare and if the Insurer offers other benefits they can drop them & you continue to pay for premium benefits. Most of all your delivery of the facts in a clear & concise manner is understandable & comforting. Thank you
Content is outstanding, well thought out, and easy to understand. The smartest guy in the UA-cam Medicare space.
I appreciate the slow and detailed explanations you give on your videos.
You are welcome SOMA
Excellent!
The best I have seen on UA-cam regarding Medicare
I am glad you found it useful. I have 40 other videos on Medicare as well. Click here #MedigapSeminars or feel free to subscribe. :-)
I have seen most of your videos and have learned so much about plans and companies. I have had medicare for many years but need to change now and then and find things change continually. Thank you for all of this information!!

You are excellent. You said you don’t deal with Massachusetts? Can you recommend somebody for Massachusetts that says efficient and accurate and helpful as you? Thank you.
A most excellent description of the situation. It was all interesting and very well laid out.
You mention that this is a series. It would be helpful if you numbered the titles of the videos in the order that they should be watched.
WOW … wished you were here 7 years ago ( I’m 72 ) …
I’ve done tons of confused internet reading over years …
You laid it out so well … systematically logically … with good Tips ! ( Dos and Don’ts )
Medicare should put your series on the MUST SEE list when turn 64 !
Thanks You … Thank You … Thank You …
Thank you . I really appreciate your kind comment.
Based on your new knowledge, do you think you made the right decisions along the way? If not? Do you know if you still have options for improvement?
Last year, at age 74, I discovered the High Deductible Plan G, which I thought was better for me than holding on to my employer’s MA plan. Fortunately, seniors can decide to leave employer MA plans with no penalties even with a pre-existing condition. So I switched and am very happy with my new plan. Universal coverage. No networks. No referrals. No bills after meeting the deductible.
In my research, I thought I understood Community Rated. Imagine my surprise to see a company in my state (IL) offering Community Rated Medigap plans. I was further confused when looking at their rate tables and seeing different rates depending on age, gender, and tobacco status. And their rates increase by age group due to gradual decreases in their “enrollment discount”. So I know of at least one company you’re referring to that uses this deceptive practice (and they’re recommended by AARP, no less). You’re the only one I’ve seen so far who has bothered to point out the deception. All other available plans here are Attained Age based. Thank you so much!
It would be nice if these videos were numbered. I’m not sure how to find the first one or the next one now that I’ve listen to the one in the middle.
As with the several other videos I have watched, very well done. The explanations were clear and concise. The recaps are excellent. Pointing out what to look for was very helpful. Thank you again for sharing your knowledg.
Really appreciate all the information you provided in this video, as with all your videos. You answered so many questions I had, and now feel informed. Thanks
Anxious too see your new 2022 videos. Always great learning tool. Thx.
I so enjoy these videos and their straight ahead, even toned, fact based presentation. Of the three videos on Medicare supplement insurance companies, I've watched the first one and the second one (this one), but I cannot find the third video. Can the link to that video be posted to the comments here?
Information I need. The idea of "extra" benefits being revokable didn't occur to me either. The wife calls those 'benefits' "window dressing." Relying on just Social Security and not being eligible for Medicaid is a "challenge" today. Now glad we grew up near poor. I'm "pre approved" for surviving the upcoming hard times. Stay safe!
We call those extra benefits "lipstick on a pig" LOL
Some good facts that I already knew. I still dont know which insurance company I should purchase my supplement from. Thats really what I want to know. There are numerous companies so which one is best for me??? I always get the same answer..."Well that depends" yeah I know. Back to the beginning...and on and on it goes!

“There’s no pricing structure that turns an insurance company into a philanthropic organization.”
Gold. I hope you enjoyed writing that as much as I enjoyed listening. 😂
I noticed from watching your videos you not only match people to the right policy, but you also act as an advocate. I will be contacting you, I turn 65 in November.
If I have an advantage plan and I move to a state in which my plan isn't offered, would I have to go with an advantage plan by a different provider or could I switch to original medicare? Would I have to go through underwriting? Thank you for your time.
Oh and you are correct about Silver Sneakers . This can be a benefit on some Medicare Advantage Plans .
Enjoyed your seminars but can't find Medicare Insurance Companies best medicare supplement plans - Part 3 that you talked about in the other videos. Can you provide a direct link? Thank-you!
I have not yet had time to finish that one. :-(
@@MedigapSeminars I'm about to turn 65 and I have found your videos very enlightening. As such I was quite interested in seeing the third video in this series. I'm sure you are working on it, but in the meantime I was hoping that you could at least give me some direction to facilitate my research. I'm assuming that the most important "What to Consider..." criteria largely have to do with various measures of how "solid" (# years in business, # of policies issued, etc.) a company is & the demonstrated stability of their pricing. Is that reasonably accurate? Are there any other major criteria that belong at or near the top of the list? And is there an efficient way (ex., a specialized website or industry standard/rating system) to research/compare such parameters? Thanks!!!
Wow, great video series, Part 1 and 2. Any chance I could locate Part 3 on your site as I have been looking for quite a while and simply cannot find it. LOVE your analytical approach to dealing with this issue. I too am a bit of a numbers guy, so I really do appreciate your research and hard work. I'll be calling your company soon for quotes here in Central Florida...
@optionstraderman I can't find part 3 either. I also checked 'playlists' and there's only 2 videos listed under this subject. 🤔
@@TJC1315 I think I saw in a later video that he hadn't gotten around to recording part 3 yet so hopefully one day it will arrive.
I travel internationally most of the year. Is plan G or plan C a better choice for me? Thanks.
A very big thumbs up to you for your whole package of Medicare videos. For one reason or another, I've viewed a lot of these videos from various presenters and that exposure made me appreciate yours in particular. Thank you for the overall comprehensive range of your entire group of videos, but thank you at least as much for breaking Medicare info into separate topics and separate videos. I find your explanations thorough, but blessedly clear concise and highly useful. Thank you for the thoughtful prep that must go into your straight talk.
I’ve seen so many videos comparing plans, but completely gloss over choices in companies. Very good video! Thanks!
The right company depends on your state and age. Can't put that in a video. Besides, we get paid to help people with the application. We don't get paid for videos. If you would like my advice on companies we are happy to offer it to those who wish to work with us. Keep in mind, it's free to you, the consumer.
AARP United Health, offers community rating. But then imposes a “discount” rate that decreases periodically, thus it operates just like an attained age plan.
That is correct in all states except those that mandate true Community rated Plans or Issue Age Plans. But by structuring their plans as they do, that 3% annual increase in price is not considered a price increase when comparing stats.
Hi there,
I did not know that a insurance co.can cancel a part of your benefits.
Good to know.
Please let me know what you find most interesting.
Sorry for the errors. It is 5a.m. I hope you can decipher that.
Different types of rating depending upon State you live in. Most interesting 🧐

The clarity of your videos is what has brought me to call your company for help... thank you! judith bailey
Can you mix/match? Must you use the same company for ALL the supplements you chose?
Good to know information.thank you. What video should I watch to learn what insurance company is the better for supplemental plans?i live in California.
No, I did not know about the extra benefits that you may get. Thank you.
Very straight forward for important info needed to decide instead of doing your own reseach
Great info...I didn't know that the extra benefits could be cancelled.
If it's not detailed in your policy, it can be changed or canceled. Many benefits will be long-term, but not all
It seemed I missed something, you showed a Plan G and a Plan N side by side and then to compared the low end price of Plan G with the high end of Plan N. In my mind you where attempting to compare apples and oranges. Plan G is higher than PLan N whether you look at the low end of pricing or high end. As I see it comes down to which plan best fits your needs. My only question is does each insurance company have any sort of rating? Is that rating tied to the price?
there are no ratings because the benefits are all the same and Medicare makes all decisions. What you missed is that a person in the wrong company can spend more on a Plan N that they would spend on a Plan G with the right company. Choosing the right insurance company is more important to your lifetime cost.
Great information!!! Thank you!!!
I'm following along with bated breath. Where's part 3? How to find the right insurance company?
I decided to make Part 3 into two videos This is part 1 ua-cam.com/video/N6_4uJ6ViV4/v-deo.html Part 2 is this weekend
I was not aware that extra benefits could be cancelled and higher price of plan would not be reduced because of that cancelled extra benefit.
Mr. Matthew, thank you so much for helping me to understand my options. Medicare is a new language for me and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge so we can make an informed decision!
I like learning something, just want it given more concise and less wordy
Does your obtained date change if you move to a different state?
No Not at all
So was Mutual of Omaha plan N a good choice for Mt
once you've picked a Plan G company, can you move to a Plan N or is that only possible if you undergo medical underwriting?
In all but a few states, medical underwriting will be required. There are a couple insurance companies that let you move down in coverage, but some charge you extra if you do not go through underwriting.
I did not know about the "extras" being temporary
A: Did not know extra benefits could be dropped at any time.
There are medical facilities that take Medicare but they may not accept the suppliment company!
Why does the Medicare &You booklet that the Government sends out now only list Advantage plans. I don't want that, they do not list Supplemental companies.
Mayo clinic just sent a letter out stating they do not accept ANY Medicare Advantage Plans, just supplement plans. The Medicare & You Guide changed a lot in 2016 or 2017, the same year they made a ruling that agents are not allowed to state that the Government prefers people get Advantage plans.
I found the information in this video very helpful as I will be searching out my medicare supplement soon! Thank you!!

Talks in common terms I can understand
I very much appreciate this helpful info . It honest to God is so incredibly complex, confusing, with so many moving parts to try to make a decision. Your videos are great and I appreciate your passion for getting out the information to those of us that need it desperately. I am still in the 6-month window where I can make a choice between advantage and supplement without medical underwriting. I was going you plan on advantage, obviously the cost and the benefits being much better initially. Yet I am a long-term smoker and feel like if I don't jump on the Supplement Plan at this time it would be very expensive or not even possible after my 6 months window. So appreciate all your videos. I love your passion and your transparency and when you feel like it's BS you call it. Bless you. Just called your 800 number to get that name of the supplement plan that is most stable with their increases would you referenced on your high deductible Supplement Plan update video, but since it's Sunday I have to wait till Monday and hope to hear that. Thank you
I like the 30 minutes. I have an employer Medicare advantage plan. I suffer chronic pain and need exercise. Will Medicare cover excersize at a health gym like xsport, vitamins, acupuncture, naturopathic doctors. Will your supplement plan cover complementary meds and services?
Do you have a video on whether it makes a difference if you live in a big vs rural and what Medigap plans are offered (or not) and if premiums are affected by where you live.
Thank you!
You will be my Agent when I turn 65 next year,
Premiums are, by law, based on the insurance company claims experience in your area. The rest...it is a matter of how much control you want to give to a for-profit insurance company over your healthcare. You will always have more control and more freedom with a supplement.
Very informative. I will be looking up your other videos to view them also. Thank you.

You have a competitor that is very good but I think he uses a little fear tactic. And I want to say thank you for that. I guess I have to watch a little more but I am on a Advantage plan with Medicaid on the bottom part. I've been that way since I'm on disability that I turn 65 next year. I see the big difference now. How how hard would it be to change. And time I paid basically 170 and say 120 a month and 30 a month for the rest of the stuff that's about $500 a month but not much left. But I see the advantage of doing it with the G plan
When you turn 65, you will have the your initial enrollment period for Medicare and will be eligible to change at that time easily.
I called the Senior savings Network that I got on one of your seminars. I thought you were on the E Coast of FL. They are in S Carolina. I hope to find out if I made the right decision calling them. I am on a waiting list till 11/10/21 for an agent to get back to me.

What happens if I enroll in an attained age plan N in one state and move to another state? Will I have to change my policy?
All Medicare supplement plans are national coverage. You do not have to change plans when you move. However, it doesn't hurt to see if you can save money at your new zip code. Prices can vary widely state to state. medigapseminars.org/contact-us/
I would pay no fees for your service, ever? How are you compensated? Thanks
Great question! We work with all the major insurance companies and offer all Medicare supplement plans. When you apply for a plan through us, the insurance company compensates us. That is the same way all insurance works (Life, health, auto, home etc.) The state regulates the price so you get the same price as if you went directly to the insurance company.
Valuable information, thanks.

If I will get Medicare Supplement plan example Plan G and not taking any meds. I if I become sick in 2 or 3 years will the insurance that I will get Plan G, will the insurance will cancel my insurance due to my diagnosis after 2-3 yrs ? Pls I need the answer sir Thanks
Robert - 1. Medicare supplement plans are guaranteed renewable contracts. No one can change your benefits (not even an act of Congress). 2. By law, insurance companies cannot single a person out for their health situation. If a company is to raise prices it must first get permission from the state, then apply the price change to everyone with that plan in that area. 2. Medicare supplement plans do not offer Part D coverage. You need a Part D prescription drug plan for that. See my other videos Click here: #MedigapSeminars

Is Washington National a good choice?
My company works with all the major insurers that are rated A- or better, have competitive prices that have a history of price stability. In addition, they must work with independent agents. Washington National is an A- rated company. I do not recall seeing it on my quote system as competitively priced. From what I understand, they only use "Captured" agents that are employees of the company. They therefore do not have the option of shopping insurance companies to represent your best interest. www.indeed.com/cmp/Washington-National/reviews
Yes it is one of best ones issue age rates
What do you think of Cygna?
I've had this carrier recommended but their reviews on Marketplace are not too good. Maybe Medicare is different?
Could you do something on why the Medicare prefers Medicare Advantage even though it’s more costly to Medicare? Yes I know they claim they don’t but it’s obvious they do so much so they appear to be trying to establish something with a similar effect for people on supplement through a back door through their doctors and clinics.
In a different video, with a license broker, he says specifically that insurance brokers actually get higher commissions on the advantage plans. It was a question I had lingering and was thankful he answered it honestly. There's a big difference on the commissions, and the commissions on Advantage plans are higher than the supplement plans for insurance brokers

Cool story bro.
how do i see the united healthcare premium increase over time
Good question. It is hidden. It does not even show up in the quote engine data base. Keeping it hidden is why in many states they call one of their annual price increases a "Reversal of a discount" It's not. There is no discount. It's just a way they can include a 3% annual price increase without it showing up as a price increase.
