Pilot Iroshizuku Ink Predictions 2024

- I mentioned in my Baltimore Pen Show video that I was told at the Pilot table three inks were being discontinued this year and three new inks would be coming out. In this video, I'm documenting my predictions and goals around these inks. I'll follow up later this year with an update!

Sui gyoku and hotaru bi are two of the newest inks that they added to the collection probably less than two years ago around the time that they discontinued the other three they may not get rid of new inks so quickly however I do believe that those three inks were not as popular anyways, but they have not had a lot of time yet to soak into peoples ink inventory. Personally, I hope that they get rid of one of their blues and add a new purple.

I love this!! I totally want a pamphlet now haha. As much as I DO NOT want them to discontinue anymore inks, I think they would likely discontinue the Ku Jaku actually since the sui-goku is newer, and my other 2 predictions would me Momiji, and the Kiri same like you mentioned. As for additions, I would LOVE to see them add a lighter purple color, a light brown (Ina Ho dupe would be great!) or a golden yellow/brown color like Ina ho, and a true "red". Great video!! I rebuke this prediction against Kiri-Same 😤! It is one of my favorite daily writing inks. But I will be buying an extra bottle just in case you’re right 😬.

I think they'll get rid of a blue, ku jaku and maybe fuyu gaki. I'd like to see a red, another brown and maybe a different shade of yellow that doesn't lean to green like Hotaru bi.
Oh no, hopefully not ku jaku! Think one pink, one grey and one blue will go. Replaced with a peach, gold and new brown. Or hopefully an actual red. Great video too, thanks!
I know I just bought a bottle of Ku Jaku! Oh I love the idea of a peach. They could call it natsu-momo for summer peach.

Thanks for watching! There no official word yet on which inks will be discontinued. It will probably be announced later in the year.
I hope not because it is a colour I keep returning to. It is such a beautiful, muted orange. Just the right intensity not to be in your face yet a definite colour pop on the page.
I'm glad you did this video but I am so nervous now about which inks Pilot will discontinue. Momiji is my favorite in that line, there is nothing else like it. If Murasaki Shikibu is the elegant, refined, traditional court lady, then Momiji is her wild, pink haired, short skirted, karaoke-singing sister, and it would be a shame to banish either of them. There are so many different inks I want, but now I'm chewing my nails wondering if I should go ahead and buy another bottle of Momiji just to be safe. (I want a bottle of Murasaki, too, but I really doubt they'll cut their only purple.) Like you, I'm betting they'll knock out one of the teals, but I just can't tell where the other two axes are going to fall.

This was such a fun video!! I have been wondering if they’ll come back with a few browns as well, since ids one of my favourite colours to write with and I am not connecting with Yama guri as much as I did with ina ho or tsukushi. I love the way they feel in my pens, so I’d jump all over that colour if that’s what they brought out.
Thanks for watching! Totally agree about Yama Guri, it's nice but Ina ho and Tsukushi hit differently. I would be super excited if they came out with another brown!
I am not a fan of the Yama guru brown - too dark. They need a light golden brown or medium warm brown. But they took those away. Disappointing that they won’t bring back ina ho considering that it’s popular enough for people now to mix or find their own dupes. I am sure if they brought it back it would fly off the shelf. I don’t see anyone online using hotaru bi and I don’t really see the point of it, since chika rin is there.
Thanks for sharing your scoop on Pilot switching out 3 inks. I had tried a sample of Tsukushi and loved it, but my timing was wrong -- when I went to buy it, it was gone. I'm also not the type to scour the markets and pay a high price, so I have Ferris Wheel Press Steeped Umber and Noodler's Tsvetayeva (which may also both be discontinued now) as my browns, and I like them. They don't flow as well and the color isn't quite the same, though. I'm not that much a fan of blue, so I'd hope they'd pull a blue (maybe Ajisai), but I know the legions of blue lovers keep those pretty popular. It seems to me that there are too many pinks, too, so I'd guess maybe Kosu-mosu or Momiji might go, ideally in favor of a truer red. Otherwise, I'm clueless! This was fun, thanks again.
Omg, I love these inks; why do they keep discontinuing them? 😭I feel like all the ones they have now are really popular. Sui-gyoku and Hotaru-bi are both new, so I'd be surprised if they dropped those (but not too sad about it). I agree with all your additions!
Ah that's a really good point! I had forgotten they were new. I feel like I never see anyone talk about them.

Fun video! I wish companies wouldn't discontinue inks but I understand they have to make profit! My favorite Pilot ink is Azalea!

Ones that I don’t hear talked about often are Ajisai, Syo Ro, and Ku Jaku. People usually get Asa Gao, Shin Ryoku, and Tsuki Yo. Then again, we don’t know what is popular and selling well in Japan.

Look at the Custom heritage 92 piston and 912 converter has many nib choices. 742 is another I find good values vs the custom 74 and 823. 742>74
I think I've looked into some of those! I'm really interested in the 742 and 743 but wish there were different colors.
Love these inks, they are so well behaved. Great video. Purple 💜 is so popular, I think they will add another. Your other colors are good candidates too. Did they say when the new ones will be announced? 🤔
No, they didn't say. I wish I had interrogated the vendors more. I'm thinking it will be fall or later. I heard on Mike Matteson's livestream of the Atlanta Pen show that there were big things coming in the fall at Pilot so it could be around then. That said, when I did a search and it seems like they typically announce these towards the end of the year.

I currently own 8 different colors in the Iroshizuku line. I love each one. Jurojin is a fav. My most recent purchase is tsuki yo. Cool vid.
Ajisai might go.. I like it though.
