    I've watched a lot of different side chaining videos and I've never fully understood what it was doing. The way you explained it in the first five minutes taught me more than I ever knew.

    Worth mentioning where in the chain you put these ducking compressors too (usually last) so beginners don’t get confused that you might have other compressors earlier in the chain to do other things, and this is a final mix ‘vibe’ process that comes later

    Tip for Logic users, you can see all notes in milliseconds (synced in tempo of your project) by clicking on "Delay" in region inspector on the left side, click the arrow "More" if not visible. I can also recommend one more sidechain trick... multiband in an expander mode on drum room, sidechain snare into it. Set the multiband to the range you like (maybe you want more boomines or more high end splash) and everytime snare hits you get more room just on snare hits.

    great content, highlighting a variety of ways to create sonic relationships between tracks using sidechaining. to a degree this was validating some of my long-time practices that I haven’t seen anywhere else until now in this video.
    what I may add as another interesting technique to experiment with - try feeding lead vocals as sidechain source to the mid image of the instrumental bus’s dynamic eq, that is set to attenuate the range ~2k-3k (the exact placement mainly depends on vocals’ characteristics).
    works great for getting some additional clarity, also widen things a little bit due to unmasking of the side image, caused by attenuation of this range in the mid.
    also I can’t agree more on the point of syncing every value of attack/release to the tempo of the song - the moment I started doing this was actually when I started to get the most impressive results from my mixes, i seriously think that it’s some inevitably crucial stuff to get everything in place in every possible circumstances, regardless of the source material you’re working with. don’t forget to also pay attention to the values that are not straight (1/4, 1/8, etc..) but also the dotted ones as well as triplets for the current song’s tempo. often one of those is able to add some insane sense of breathing and movement to the finished mix.

    I knowed the trick with the Sidechain compression of the Reverb and Delay Busses. And I always use this. But the other tricks I've never heard. but that works great. Thanks for Sharing. I love the way you describe this tricks. Specially for Rock and Metal music. But I'm wondering, why Samplitude is not supporting multiple Sidechains on one Track. 🤔🥵

  • @QueMusiQ
    @QueMusiQ Рік тому

    But often, I don’t tempo Synch the release. I keep it unnoticeably quick. I largely sidechain for the sake of preserving clarity of the kick and maintaining tenable headroom on the master. If I want that SP404 type pumping sound, tho, tempo synchronization is useful.

  • @dannydaniel8975
    @dannydaniel8975 Рік тому

    I do house/disco music and I make all the bass in stereo and I offset the bass track from the kick slightly This kinda sorta removes the bass directly from the center of the mix, where the kick resides. The Juno synth bass, with a little delay/echo sounds so much better in stereo to me and makes a mix really full sounding without adding a lot of instruments, which is essential to me since I record on an 8 track reel to reel and analog mixer, but if I ever have to do a mono type bass, I'll just arrange the bass line so that the kick and bass are not hitting at the same time, because I'm not a fan of that plugin sound......

    I like your videos, but searching for a note to set sidechain tempo is a nosense... just check on timeline how long sample/kick/snare/etc is (lets say 200 ms) and then set it to realese time. Why even bother with notes here?

    • @RaytownProductions
      @RaytownProductions  Рік тому

      The absolute truth is to just use your ears to decide the right length. Tempo syncing will help keep the ducking in time with the groove of the music. This is especially important for the bass/kick which most of a song's groove comes from. Just measuring the length of an arbitrary kick sample will probably not duck the bass in a musical way with the song.
      Hope that gives more perspective! Great question - Cheers!
