    Yes I agree, bus improvements for Ballarat would be nice

    My opinion on your proposals, is the blue east west line should go a little further west through Alfredton, and the north south red line should go into Ballarat station to have an interchange with trains and the other light rail line, and also instead of going further north and going west on Norman street, you should go west earlier onto C287, Howitt street, so then it can serve Wendouree station, then going north on C307 to North Wendouree

    I lived in Ballarat Sth in the mid 60's and our next-door neighbour was an electrician with Ballarat Trams servicing the vehicles. He gave my parents some trolley pole ropes to hang a swing from a big willow tree for my brothers and I.

    Wow this is so interesting especially because I knew barely anything about the Ballarat trams before this.

    Maybe it's just me but I feel if ever light rail was to return to Ballarat it would have go down to Sovereign Hill from Ballarat train station (probably via Fed Uni & Grant St). You'd also need to include services to Mars Stadium, as well as the waterfront at Lake Wendouree. If light rail ever does get built in Ballarat you need it to take people to where they want to go and the includes both locals and visitors to Ballarat.
    That all being said, the case for light rail in Geelong is a lot stronger: Geelong Station to Deakin Uni Waurn Ponds via Brougham St & Moorabool St in Geelong CBD, then via Kardinia Park & Belmont heading out of the city actually makes a lot of sense and would replace several of Geelong's busiest bus routes.

      As much as I would like to see that, tourism is a very poor source of traffic for a transit system as it is only a sometimes source of traffic not an always source of traffic. Perhaps a tourist tram service using old ballarat trams? Not sure.
      Completely agree with the second part. I think Geelong should be building a light rail ASAP and I will make a video about it in future.

      Possibly, but I didn't specify just tourism. Obviously serve Fed Uni, the South/South Eastern part of Ballarat, and the Northern region via Mars stadium. Anyway as you said in the video it's very unlikely to happen given Ballarat's current population, doesn't really justify the cost.
      But yeah, would certainly back a proposal for a Geelong-Waurn Ponds light rail route.

    Ballarat should have done what Bendigo did, that is run a tourist tram through the city, say from Sovereign Hill, to Lake Wendouree. Bendigo had not quite as an extensive network as Ballarat did, yet were still able to retain the old Golden Square line, as far as the Central Deborah Gold mine to the Chinese Temple in Bendigo North to use as a tourist tram, retaining the old Tram Depot as a working museum. And yes as a person who lived between both cities I do fondly remember both systems in their working days.

    I thought part of the decision was the SEC inherited the trams along with the electricity network and after running the trams for a few years lost interest. Likewise with Bendigo. The SEC wasn’t interested in running trams.

    • @MetroManMelbourne
      @MetroManMelbourne  2 роки тому

      The SEC ran the trams since the 30s iirc so they certainly didn’t dump them straight away. But I wouldn’t rule it out as a possibility.
