Vigorous, dramatic and highly musical performance of a hurtling, white-hot, masterwork

I had the Talish complet Beethoven quartet for many years. Didn’t listen much of it to a extent that I thought I did not really appreciate Beethoven’s quartets. But surprise! Lately I discovered the Cleveland quartet and man!! Now I just love Beethoven’s quartet! That’s the one for me! Perfect!

The first movement in particular takes me back to when I was first discovering Beethoven's quartets.

A masterpiece - a truly extraordinary conception - it starts tears in my eyes each time I hear it. I think that those who cannot see this for themselves must lack one or more of: patience to listen, imagination, education, or humanity. There is so much invention within a harmonious whole: for eg, in one of the repeats, the cello interjection arriving unexpectedly early at 20:05 was just genius.
