- The difference between MUCH, MANY, A LOT OF and LOTS OF in English.
First we look at how we use MUCH with uncountable nouns and MANY with plural countable nouns.
Then we introduce when to use A LOT OF instead of MUCH or MANY in sentences. We also look at the difference between A LOT OF and LOTS OF.
We see examples of how we can use MUCH and MANY without nouns after them.
Finally we have a fill-the-blank activity where you need to complete the sentences with either MUCH or MANY.
We have included MANY examples sentences in this English Grammar Lesson. :)

I love to spend a lot of time to watch very fruitful videos on Woodward English so i really don't need many books for studying English because here everything is available. And i don't want to waste much time on any other channels because this one is the best. I loved it😊
If I say little ... how much is that though?? 3?? 300?? When you say little ..it should mean less than a specific number
Well, much. Much is often used with uncountable nouns.
Here are some examples; much water, much sand, much time, much money, much more electricity, much candy.
Many is also used with plural nouns: many apples, many people, many leaves, many cars, many boats, many rocks, many wives.

He doesn't need much money to buy a jacket.
There's not much water in the desert.
MANY:

I haven't got much furniture.
I'm not having much luck today.
They don't have many clients.
Have you got much luggage?
There isn't much information available.
She doesn't read many magazines.
Great!
I am quiet confuse when to use 'a lot of' and 'a little'.
I know that 'a little' is used for small uncountable amounts and 'a lot of' is used with large amounts.
Since in video you said 'a lot of' is used with countable and uncountable affirmative sentences so 'a little' will be used in which type of uncountable sentences positive or negative?
More over is this correct?
Many= countable plural noun in negative sentence
A few=Countable plural noun in positive sentence
Much=Uncountable noun in negative sentence
A little=?
I think it will be used in positive sentence
A lot of =Both countable and uncountable nouns in positive sentences..
Correct?
Can you tell me about A little?
Kindly tell me as i am having exam after 3 hours
There is more information here: www.grammar.cl/Notes/Much_Many_Lot_Few.htm
I'm sorry John. I don't have much money to spend right now.

There are so much water in my bottle.

Hahaha, I was watching the video again to realize the second number is incorrect.
I have some milk in my fridge
I don’t have any sugar
She has a lot of shoes
He doesn’t have much money
Very useful video lesson. I have never known before that -many and much- are used in negative forms and in questions.
How are these sentences?
1. Thank you so much/ Thanks a lot.
2. Much / lots of my time has been spent in reading.
1. Thank you so much ..... is correct. I will be creating a video later about so vs. such.
2. Lots of my time is used more. Much is possible though it sounds very formal (old-fashioned).
we didnt have much time to finish it. Did you invite many people? There aren't many near here. I haven't got much furniture.
Great
Your explanation in each video is fantastic! Thank you very much!
The video is great. But please tell me , "homework" is countable noun or uncountable noun ?
Your answer is here - Countable and Uncountable Nouns in English

Thank you for this useful vídeo.
I don´t have much time for myself.
When I traveled to the USA I didn´t take many photograhs.
A lot of people drive too fast.
Great examples!
I don't have much to say however, thank you
Thank you this video is so useful for me, blessings!. These are my examples :
1- She doesn't know how many gifts her brother brought her.
2- Didn't spend much gas your motorcycle?.
3-How many friends do you have on facebook?.
4- A lot of people that throw trash on street are adults.
Great. Just need to change the second one a little. We need a subject.
Sorry for the stupid question but I can't find any answer on my own. Much shouldn't be used with singoulat countable nouns, just uncountable .. isn't it? So why can I find sentences like: "There isn't much gas in the car", "There isn't much space to write." or : "there isn't much information" like at the end of that video? (pl. gasses, spaces, informations)...what am I missing? Best regards from Italy!
Gas, space and information are uncountable nouns.
@@WoodwardEnglish thank you your answer. If I could say gasses, areas why are them considered uncountables?
I haven't got many grammar books!.
A lot confusions has cleared through this video. Lots of thanks(in informal way😛)
Glad to hear that!
Can we just use "a lot of" for everything instead of dealing with much and many?
If you want, but it is better not to do that.
Thank you for sharing this video I send this video to my students and they understand very well
Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you very intersting👍👍
Thanks Sofia.
really useful thanks a lot
You're welcome!

There is some information that you didn't mention.
For example, A LOT OF is commonly used with words that have a positive meaning, like friends, food, money.. in other words, it's not just a matter of saying "You use a lot of in affirmative sentences", it depends on the NOUN. One won't say _I have a lot of headache_ because headache is a bad thing.
Also, after the 7-minute mark, you said that you can use many or much to REFER TO A NOUN that has been mentioned before to avoid repetition. Sure, you can do that, but MANY and MUCH will no longer work as a quantifier, their grammar function is now an INDEFINITE Pronoun!
Additionally, MANY is used in negative sentences, yes. But also in affirmative sentences with a NEGATIVE meaning if there's a word mentioning resistance, denial, a low-frequency adverb or a negative connector. Examples:
She _rarely_ talks to MANY people;
_Unfortunately_ there are many bills to pay;
_Nobody_ has many good ideas.
Yes, there will always be things that I miss out in videos... especially with some exceptions to main rules. Sometimes I include those in a video later, as a more advanced lesson (or it appears on my website). At the moment I just try to cover the basic rules of everything while mentioning COMMON exceptions.
For example, right now I am working on videos about Conditionals. There is no way I will be able to cover ALL of the exceptions or uses of conditionals without it being needlessly boring or the video being excessively long.
Thank you for adding all of these other points/uses for others.
UA-cam definetely needs the love button!
Thanks Kevin :)
